And Paul here doth not here reason what we ought to do, but by what means we are made righteous. In this matter we must set nothing before our eyes, but Jesus Christ dying for our sins, and rising again for our righteousness: and Him must we apprehend by faith, as a gift, not as an example. Like as the Jews, which were saved, follow the believing Abraham, so we also, if we will be delivered from our sins and be saved, must take hold of the justifying and saving Christ, whom Abraham himself also, by faith, did apprehend, and through Him was blessed.
