Contingency versus Imputation.
Absolution without Faith versus Justification by Faith

We have to know our Christian teaching so well that nothing can move us from the truth. That is valid for clergy and laity alike, but a special obligation for clergy, even more for those who would be leaders. Some people are offended that I am a Doctor of Theology. Doctor is Latin for teacher - no harm in that. I had the chance to pursue a scholarly study of theology and Biblical studies. Training in adult education did not hurt either.

I used to complain that I spent too much time studying modern theology, since that was the program at Notre Dame. Now I realize how valuable that was in identifying the flaws of UOJ, which is modern, much later than the Reformation and the Lutheran Orthodoxy era that followed the Book of Concord in 1580.

UOJ arrived when Pietism was dying at Halle University. Old Professor Knapp published his lectures as the last of the Pietists at Halle, which was becoming rationalistic to a man, especially in the Biblical department. When the Calvinist Woods translated Knapp's wooden prose into English, he explained Knapp thus (see the graphic below):

All of modern Protestant theology looks to Schleiermacher as the turning point for them. Co-inky-dink: F. Scheiermacher studied at Halle and taught at Halle.

Schleiermacher taught the justification of the entire world, like Knapp, but pushed the boundaries farther along. This Universal Justification or world absolution is the common theme of modern Protestant theology. The modernists condemn faith as a contingency.

Grace means no contingency, the modernists say. It is not grace when faith is a contingency, a requirement - they claim.

Gather round, friends. Do you see how liberating this is? No one needs to believe anything at any time, because every single person has been forgiven by God's grace. That is the Gospel of modern Protestant Theology.

Even better. When someone brings up the importance of faith, the modernists respond, "But you are making faith a contingency. That destroys the whole concept of God's grace. There can be no contingency."

That is liberating, because the Bible becomes a convenient source for narratives, for new theology books, for careers where one can be an atheist tranny and still be paid for teaching about the Christian faith. Naturally, an atheist cannot really teach the Christian faith in any form but only about Christianity, a bad approximation that is bound to be anti-Christian.

UOJ came from Halle University and has the same DNA as modern Protestant theology. The same allergy to faith is constant. The same warnings are issued about making faith a contingency.

We have to part with all human philosophies and teachings, trusting only in God's Word.

KJV Romans 4:22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. 23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; 24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on Him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

I am a complete sentence and paragraph and chapter teacher. I cannot put a few words under the magnifying glass and ignore all the words around it.

Forgiveness of sin is contingent upon faith in the Gospel. In fact, there is no forgiveness without faith.

No one can merge UOJ with justification by faith. When they attempt this strange union, faith is the target and victim.

One should take note of these circumstances. The SynCon (short for Synodical Confidence Racket) has promoted a false view of Romans 4 ever since 1932, when F. Pieper departed, leaving a foul stench behind, the Brief Confession.

Generations of LCMS-ELS-WELS leaders have failed to identify the exegetical pratfall found in the Brief Confession listing Romans 4:25 in support of their lame world absolution.

Every time a SynCon pastor says "Raised for our justification!" to support world absolution, he is admitting to everyone that he is a false teacher, an inept false prophet, too ignorant to read all of Romans 4 and 5.

The same is true of other key Biblical passages.

Should I mention...am I being cruel? - Luther never taught justification except for justification by faith alone. He is so consistent and redundant that I am shocked the SynCons do not let that fact register.

What's that?

Mrs. Ichabod, "Sassy Sue knows more Luther than they do. She hears Luther read aloud."

I will concede that. Their error is one of ignorance. They know nothing of Luther.

The Word is enough. I do not need anyone to agree with me. Their titles do not impress me. I have known better teachers and scholars - honest ones at that.

I have to wonder about men who say one thing on the phone and another in person. I remember the Michigan District liars playing that game, learned during their secret initiation rituals (GA) at Mequon. Double-talk is not a skill but a sign of cowardice and unfaith.

This quotation, above, from Luther suffices. Faith alone justifies. Paul did not back down because of Peter's seniority.

Peter was a charter member of the apostles. Paul was a johnny-come-lately. All he had was his divine call and the Word.

LPC has left a new comment on your post "Contingency versus Imputation.Absolution without F...":

McCain and his theological luminaries attack Dr. Jackson saying that Dr. Jackson never had a "proper" Lutheran theological training, as if he and his gang had one.

I doubt if McCain had a proper theological training even though he has an MDiv. I mean it all depends on what you are being taught and who your teachers are. I do a lot of observation and the kind of calibre McCain exudes does not impress me nor the people I know .

For example, McCain as an MDiv can not argue. He can do ad hominem but that is arguing fallaciously and that is all that can be seen in McCain. He can not sustain an argument without resorting to name calling and prodding people to avoid anti-UOJ folks.

Really, McCain should blog about his Glock and be a full time pistolero instructor. He is cut out for that. For example, he can, I am sure, easily spot the safety lock of a pistol. That is visual activity, no brains are needed for that.

The case is not the same in doing safe theology. In theology you need to apply critical thinking a lot of times and it clearly shows McCain had no such training when he was doing his seminary degree.

Just my humble opinion.

The Voyage of Life, by Thomas Cole

Detail from The Voyage of Life, Old Age, by Thomas Cole.
The apostate leaders of the SynCon are missing the boat.

This is my timeline cover, using the detail from the painting

One of my graduate students can see the four paintings of The Voyage of Life at the museum near her house. Although Thomas Cole died young, he left behind many large landscapes and thematic paintings. He is justifiably famous for The Voyage of Life series and The Course of Empire. Mrs. Ichabod and I saw The Course of Empire set about eight times before it went back to the NY Historical Institute.

Reducing a large landscape painting to a small graphic on a website is really a desecration. On the other hand, everyone can tour the museums of the world by viewing great art from the Internet. Not everyone can live in Northwest Arkansas, where one of the best American art museums has been built. Crystal Bridges just settled an estate deal with a university to share a large collection of art for two years at a time. The widow, Georgia O'Keefe, wanted the collection kept intact, which meant that the recipient school had no cash advantages from selling some works to pay for upkeep. CB gets the collection for 2013-2014.

I like to dazzle my education technology class with the virtual tour of the Sistine Chapel.

Art and philosophy convey the culture of the time. Those who identify with the Biblical message, after being converted by the Word, cannot agree with the philosophy of this age. One theologian, Stan Hauerwas, made a reference to Abraham in his memoir, adding, "We don't know if he even existed."

That aside was perfect example of the rationalism of Halle University, the direct result of its weak foundation of Pietism. Although many heirs of Walther realize this, they do not acknowledge that their own synod was founded as a Pietistic sex cult, which was fun until the syphilis spread to the single young women in the Perryville group.

Pietism's main tenet was love over doctrine, unionism over orthodoxy, cooperation in everything. Pietism won that battle a long time ago in American Lutheran groups. They are scandalized by Luther and the Book of Concord, but not by working with Unitarians and the Salvation Army, let alone the ELCA they pretend to despise.

Titles have great significance. Cole could have called his paintings The Stages of Life, but used the term Voyages instead. We are always moving, but not very aware until we look back.

Cole was explicitly Christian in many of his paintings. His last effort showed a sheep with a cross on its fleece being led to the flock in the distance by the Good Shepherd.

William Rehnquist, an ELCA Lutheran, said once, "You look around and suddenly you are old." I wonder about the Lutheran leaders who are so busy getting and spending.

THE world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers:
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon! - Wordsworth

They are so intoxicated with their political agendas that they dare not name or quote Luther, except to wedge their little philosophies into words they cannot understand or teach. The extent of the apostasy continues to impress me, because the claims are directly opposed to the attitude.

When clergy devote their lives to eliminating Luther, the time has come to stop financing the destruction of the Christian faith.

I enjoy walking up close to the paintings to see the detail.

Jesus Critics

I was reading a book by Chuck Swindoll the other day and he had a great application when it comes to dealing with critics within the church...

Criticism comes from people who are least qualified to give it. Then who's qualified to give constructive criticism? The people who know you best -- those who love you the most. Not strangers. Not folks who have no relationship with you. Let me offer you some free advice here: If you don't really know the person you're getting ready to criticize, just pass up the opportunity. Let it be. Loving someone begins with knowing him. That's why Solomon wrote, "Faithful are the wounds of a friend" (Proverbs 27:6). In Hebrew the verse is even more specific: "Faithful are the bruises caused by the wounding of one who loves you." For those relatively few people who truly love me and understand me and who have labored alongside me for enough time to know me well, their words are invaribly worth hearing. They may hurt, but they're reliable. People like that don't criticize inappropriately. Those I often get criticized by don't even know my middle name.

I wonder what set Rev. Walters off. Perhaps the Schroeder comic strip?

One sure can tell Rev. Walters is a C&C guy. He's driving his church into great debt with a brand new fellowship hall and a newly renovated sanctuary. Of course is has no communion railing so it's more of a stage than an altar area, and it has a big flat screen TV in back on the balcony so when the kids sing or recite for the Christmas service, they can just read off the words as they scroll. It may even serve as a teleprompter for his sermons:

None Obtains Justification and Life But the Believing Man

Paul therefore reasoneth here, out of a plain testimony of the prophet, that there is none which obtaineth
justification and life before God, but the believing man, who obtaineth righteousness and everlasting life without the law, and without charity, by faith alone. The reason is, because the law is not of faith, or anything belonging to faith, for it believeth not: neither are the works of the law faith, nor yet of faith: therefore faith is a thing much differing from the law. For the promise is not apprehended by working, but by believing.

Martin Luther, Kregel, Galatians 3:12, p. 159.

KJV Galatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. 12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.

But this He omitted of purpose and saith plainly: “the righteous man shall live by faith.”

But the Holy Ghost, who giveth to all men both mouth and tongue, knoweth how to speak. He could have said (as the sophisters imagine) the righteous man shall live by faith formed, beautified and made perfect by charity. But this He omitted of purpose and saith plainly: “the righteous man shall live by faith.” We therefore will still hold and extol this faith, which God Himself has called faith; that is to say, a true and certain faith, which doubteth not of God, nor of His promise, nor of the forgiveness of sins through Christ, that we may dwell safe and sure in this our object Christ, and may keep still before our eyes the passion and blood of the Mediator and all His benefits.

Martin Luther, Kregel, Galatians 3:11, p. 158f.

KJV Galatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

KJV Habakkuk 2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

KJV Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

All objectors against this doctrine of justification by faith alone, must be answered after this manner: Here is Christ

All objectors against this doctrine of justification by faith alone, must be answered after this manner: Here is Christ, there are the testimonies of the Scriptures touching law and works...

Therefore, if He be the price of my redemption, if He be made sin and malediction that He might justify and bless me, I care not if thou bring  a thousand places of Scripture for the righteousness of works, against the righteousness of faith. I have the Author and Lord of the Scripture with me; on whose side I would rather stand, than believe all the rabblement of law-workers and meritmongers.

Martin Luther, Krebel, Galatians 3:10, p. 155f.

Why Is Justification by Faith So Difficult for Lutherans To Comprehend?
Here Is a Brief Summary about the Righteousness of Faith

The Epitome of the Formula of Concord
III. The Righteousness of Faith
Affirmative Theses.
Pure Doctrine of the Christian Churches against Both Errors Just Mentioned.

1. Against both the errors just recounted, we unanimously believe, teach, and confess that Christ is our Righteousness neither according to the divine nature alone nor according to the human nature alone, but that it is the entire Christ according to both natures, in His obedience alone, which as God and man He rendered to the Father even unto death, and thereby merited for us the forgiveness of sins and eternal life, as it is written: As by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of One shall many be made righteous, Rom. 5:19.

2. Accordingly, we believe, teach, and confess that our righteousness before God is this very thing, that God forgives us our sins out of pure grace, without any work, merit, or worthiness of ours preceding, present, or following, that He presents and imputes to us the righteousness of Christ's obedience, on account of which righteousness we are received into grace by God, and regarded as righteous.

3. We believe, teach, and confess that faith alone is the means and instrument whereby we lay hold of Christ, and thus in Christ of that righteousness which avails before God, for whose sake this faith is imputed to us for righteousness, Rom. 4:5.

4. We believe, teach, and confess that this faith is not a bare knowledge of the history of Christ, but such a gift of God by which we come to the right knowledge of Christ as our Redeemer in the Word of the Gospel, and trust in Him that for the sake of His obedience alone we have, by grace, the forgiveness of sins, are regarded as holy and righteous before God the Father, and eternally saved.

5. We believe, teach, and confess that according to the usage of Holy Scripture the word justify means in this article, to absolve, that is, to declare free from sins. Prov. 17:15: He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the righteous, even they both are abomination to the Lord. Also Rom. 8:33: Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

And when, in place of this, the words regeneratio and vivificatio, that is, regeneration and vivification, are employed, as in the Apology, this is done in the same sense. By these terms, in other places, the renewal of man is understood, and distinguished from justification by faith.

6. We believe, teach, and confess also that notwithstanding the fact that many weaknesses and defects cling to the true believers and truly regenerate, even to the grave, still they must not on that account doubt either their righteousness which has been imputed to them by faith, or the salvation of their souls, but must regard it as certain that for Christ's sake, according to the promise and immovable Word of the holy Gospel, they have a gracious God.

7. We believe, teach, and confess that for the preservation of the pure doctrine concerning the righteousness of faith before God it is necessary to urge with special diligence the particulae exclusivae, that is, the exclusive particles, i. e., the following words of the holy Apostle Paul, by which the merit of Christ is entirely separated from our works, and the honor given to Christ alone, when the holy Apostle Paul writes: Of grace, without merit, without Law, without works, not of works. All these words together mean as much as that we are justified and saved alone by faith in Christ. Eph. 2:8; Rom. 1:17; 3:24; 4:3ff.; Gal. 3:11; Heb. 11.

8. We believe, teach, and confess that, although the contrition that precedes, and the good works that follow, do not belong to the article of justification before God, yet one is not to imagine a faith of such a kind as can exist and abide with, and alongside of, a wicked intention to sin and to act against the conscience. But after man has been justified by faith, then a true living faith worketh by love, Gal. 5:6, so that thus good works always follow justifying faith, and are surely found with it, if it be true and living; for it never is alone, but always has with it love and hope.

First, by forgiveness of sins, and imputation of righteousness, because of our faith in Christ.

Wherefore Moses, together with Paul, doth necessarily drive us to Christ, through whom we are made doers of the law, and are not accounted guilty of any transgression. How so? First, by forgiveness of sins, and imputation of righteousness, because of our faith in Christ. Secondly, by the gift of God and the Holy Ghost, who bringeth forth a new life and motions in us, so that we may also do the law effectually. Martin Luther, Kregel, Galatians 3:10, p. 151. Phiulippe de Champaigne, Moses.

KJV Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

If thou wilt define truly what it is to do the law, it is nothing else but to believe in Jesus Christ, and when the Holy Ghost is received through faith in Christ to work those things which are commanded in the law...

Wherefore if thou wilt define truly what it is to do the law, it is nothing else but to believe in Jesus Christ, and when the Holy Ghost is received through faith in Christ to work those things which are commanded in the law: and otherwise we are not able to perform the law. For the Scriptures saith there is no blessing without the promise; no, not in the law.

The apples make not the tree, but the tree maketh the apples. So faith first maketh the person who  afterwards bringeth forth works. Therefore to do the law without faith, is to make the apples of wood and earth, without the tree, which is not to make apples, but is a mere fantasy. So, if the tree be made,
that is to say, the person or doer, which is made through faith in Christ, works will follow.

Martin Luther, Kregel, Galatians 3:10, p. 147.

KJV Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

Paul saith, whatsoever is without the promise and faith of Abraham is accursed.

This argument is invincible. For if we must hope to receive the blessing by Christ alone, then it must needs follow that it is not received by the law. For the blessing was given to faithful Abraham before the law, and without the law.

This the pope and the proud prelates do not believe, neither can they abide this doctrine. Yet must we not hold our peace, but must confess the truth and say, that the papacy is accursed: yea, all laws and civil ordinances are accursed; for Paul saith, whatsoever is without the promise and faith of Abraham is accursed.

Martin Luther, Kregel, Galatians 3:10, p. 143f.

KJV Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

He therefore that will avoid the curse, must lay hold upon the promise of blessing, or upon the faith of Abraham, or else he shall remain under the curse.

Here we see that the curse is as it were a flood, swallowing up whatsoever is without Abraham; that is to say, without faith, and the promise of the blessing of Abraham. Now if the law itself given by Moses at the command of God, maketh them subject to the curse who are under it, much more shall the laws and traditions do so, which are devised by men. He therefore that will avoid the curse, must lay hold upon the promise of blessing, or upon the faith of Abraham, or else he shall remain under the curse.

Martin Luther, Kregel, Galatians 3:10, p. 143.

KJV Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

Town turns tables on school prank | The Detroit News | detroitnews.com:

West Branch, Mich. —

High school student Whitney Kropp was shocked earlier this month when she was named to the homecoming court.

Her happy surprise turned to humiliation when she learned the reason. The students thought it would be funny if the popularity contest was won by someone who was unpopular.

Kids pointed at her in the hallways and laughed. The boy who was picked with her withdrew.

Students told her that, in case she was wondering why the boy had dropped out, he was uncomfortable being linked with her.

"I thought I wasn't worthy," said Kropp, 16. "I was this big old joke."

Her embarrassment was complete, but it didn't last long.

This tiny farm town an hour north of Saginaw quickly rallied around her.

For the homecoming dance Saturday, businesses will buy her dinner, take her photo, fix her hair and nails, and dress her in a gown, shoes and a tiara.

For the homecoming game Friday, residents will pack the football stadium so they can cheer when she is introduced at halftime.

They will be wearing her favorite color (orange) and T-shirts with messages of support. A 68-year-old grandmother offered to be her escort.

"I am in awe, overwhelmed at the amount of support," said Jamie Kline, 35, who began a Facebook support page. "I never expected it to spread as far as it has."

For Kropp, a sophomore at Ogemaw Heights High, it's been a remarkable transformation.

Before the homecoming vote, she was either ignored or scorned by classmates.

Now, when she isn't fielding yet another free offer from a business, she's being lauded by hundreds of strangers on the support page.

Cast in an unlikely role, she has embraced it. She vowed to continue representing the sophomore class, even if she has to do it alone.

It's like "Carrie" with a happy ending.

Luther Extols Faith While Removing Romans 4 from the UOJ Arsenal of False Claims

Here we must have Christ to bless us, and save us, as Abraham had Him for his blesser and Saviour. How? Not by works, but by faith. Therefore he addeth with great vehemency: “they which are of faith, are blessed with faithful Abraham.” A man, believing in Christ, is altogether a divine person, the child of God, the inheritor of the world, a conqueror of sin, death, the world, and the devil;  therefore he cannot be praised or magnified enough.Let us not suffer this faithful Abraham to lie hid in his grave, as he is hid from the Jews (who said: “Abraham is dead”), but let us highly extol and magnify him, and fill both heaven and earth with his name. So every Christian through his faith, filleth heaven and earth so that, besides it, he ought to behold nothing.

Martin Luther, Kregel, Galatians 3:8, p. 142.

KJV Galatians 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached
before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. 9 So then they which be of
faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

KJV John 8:52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. 53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? 54 Jesus
answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: 55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day:
and he saw it, and was glad. 57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? 58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Luther Takes Romans 4:25 from the UOJ Enthusiasts.
Did Walther Really Study Luther?.
WELS DPs Obviously Despise Luther

And Paul here doth not here reason what we ought to do, but by what means we are made righteous. In this matter we must set nothing before our eyes, but Jesus Christ dying for our sins, and rising again for our righteousness: and Him must we apprehend by faith, as a gift, not as an example. Like as the Jews, which were saved, follow the believing Abraham, so we also, if we will be delivered from our sins and be saved, must take hold of the justifying and saving Christ, whom Abraham himself also, by faith, did apprehend, and through Him was blessed.

Martin Luther, Kregel, Galatians 3:8, p. 141.

Romans 4:24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;  25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.  5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:  2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

UOJ Advocates Like Jay Webber, Rolf Preus, Paul McCain, David Valleskey, and Jon Buchholz Should Dwell on This Passage

Wherefore that place in Genesis, “In thee shall all nations be blessed,” speaketh not of the blessing of the mouth, but of such blessing as belongeth to the imputation of righteousness, which is available before God, and redeemeth from the curse of sin, and from all those evils which do accompany sin. Now, this blessing is received only by faith: for the text says plainly: “Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for
righeousness.”

Martin Luther, Kregel, Galatians 3:8, p. 141.

How much explaining and pointing out to these "Lutheran" personages, will it take, to either get them to change the error of their ways, or for them to initiate a concerted effort to rid their perspective Lutheran synods of the name, "Lutheran?"

Tim Rossow Agrees with Ichabod,

Pastor Tim Rossow on how critique is not slander as some claim:
http://steadfastlutherans.org/?p=18330&cpage=1#comment-318868

Pastor Tim Rossow: Theological critique is not slander. If it were, we would all have to change our name from Lutheran, because our namesake was the king of theological critique and indeed to a salutary end.

I have met Dr. Hartung, debated him, been encouraged by him, read dozens of his articles in the Reporter and I am convinced that his psychological and sociological approach to theolgy is deserving of critique.

The very notion of mistaking honest and edifying theological critique in this post and on this string for slander, is exhibit A of the need for such critique. It is the woosification of society and also church culture that has people being offended by the mere exchange of ideas. This woosification is a product of the psychologizing and sociologizing of culture and theology.

Paul Wendland promotes UOJ in his 2012 convention essay on the (W)ELS gospel.

Paul Wendland, WELS, lives and breathes UOJ,
but presents it as justification by faith - the only dogma of WELS-ELS.

Paul Wendland promotes UOJ in his 2012 convention essay on the (W)ELS gospel.

"This understanding of justification also means that, by God’s grace, we are the church of the unconditional gospel, the pure gospel, the gospel with no strings attached (universal and objective justification). The pure gospel states: “Just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people” (Ro 5:18)."

Interesting that many false teachers promoting UOJ use Romans 5:18 as a proof text of Universal Justification without faith. See that Life: eternal salvation, is also included. If they are to strip this verse from the rest of Scripture and teach that justification has been divinely declared upon the whole unbelieving world then its inseparable companion - eternal salvation (life) is also declared upon the whole unbelieving world. Again, UOJ asserts its Universalism although vehemently denied by the false teachers who promote it.

What Romans 5:18 confirms is that through God's gracious faith in Christ an individual receives the forgiveness of sins and life eternal. The false teachers have separated Salvation from the forgiveness of sins in order to establish their new way to righteousness but it is not Christ's way and therefore it is not Christian. Scripture teaches and the Confessions confirm that Christ is our Mediator between God and man through faith alone. Without faith in Christ, of which He is the Author and Finisher of, no one is justified, forgiven or saved.

Having rejected the Holy Spirit's faith, the UOJists will continue to blindly wage war against the Church of Christ and His chief and central doctrine while promoting all kinds of heinous doctrines, practices and persecute those faithful to Christ. Fortunately they will continue to leave a bloody trail of Scriptural contradictions and false teachings all the way to Rome.

A major error that is continually being perpetrated by these theological lame brains, is that they isolate certain Scriptures to build their false universal objective justification house of cards. They conveniently overlook one of the first and foremost basic hermeneutical principles; that being, comparing Scripture with Scripture. As with others who molest Scripture, these UOJ enthusiasts begin with their form of eternal security presuppositions and then bend Scripture to satisfy and suit their own selfish and carnal desires.

Unbelievers Are Allergic to Faith,
As Demonstrated by the SynConference And ELCA UOJ Enthusiasts

One Arkansan was describing her fall allergies yesterday. She said, "I want to take my eyes out and itch them with steel wool." Allergic reactions can be quite powerful. The spring blooming season this year had everyone scratching, crying, sneezing, and reaching for their medications. Apparently allergies are a hyper-reaction to the proteins of pollen.

Unbelievers react to the Biblical concept of faith the same way. The rationalists who teach world religion and theology classes are always engaged in mocking faith. Supposedly, the SynConference conservatives kicked rationalism out the door, so they can look down on ELCA rationalists, who place human reason above the Word of God.

But UOJ Enthusiasts have the same allergic symptoms as ELCA, because faith gives them systemic reactions. Our allergist kept a hospital bed and supplies in his office, in case a patient had a systemic reaction with life-threatening symptoms.

The UOJ Stormtroopers react switftly against faith, going into a hyperbolic frenzy, lest anyone pursue that line of thinking. I recall a frequent Stormtrooper warning: "You cannot quote Luther's Romans Commentary, because that was an early work." So were the 95 Theses, and I would rather read the early Luther than the latest Buchholz or Wendland. Both of them have divorced themselves from Lutheran doctrine - inept teachers, blind guides, enemies of the Faith.

There are only two justifications - not the ones named by the UOJ Hive. The two justifications are:

  1. Justification by the law.
  2. Justification by faith.

This is clearly taught by the Holy Spirit in Galatians and Romans, but the Hive--with a great show of their own sanctity--turns that into:

  1. Forgiveness, absolution, and salvation of all unbelievers (Hitler and Mao, but not UOJ critics)
  2. Forgiveness again - which really counts only if one makes a decision for #1.

KJV Galatians 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the
hearing of faith?

KJV Romans 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our
report?

Note that "hearing" and "report" are the same Greek word, uniting the concepts of preaching-hearing-believing. The Holy Spirit is active in all three, which we separate for discussion, although God unites them in action. There is no Holy Spirit at work without the Word, no Word at work without the Spirit, no preaching or believing without the Word and Spirit.

The UOJ Pixelators find an atonement passage and exclaim, "Aha! Every single pagan, head-hunter, and polytheist is in Christ, justified without faith, forgiven, and saved."

If someone mentions faith, these Pixelators are filled with wrath. When Tim Glende was running his little blog for his little friends, he raved against intuitu fidei - or Inuit Fidei, as he spelled it. At the same time he was giving Methodist sermons, in concert with Ski, copied from Groeschel, an Arminian works-salesman.

Deputy Doug approved, because "everyone plagiarizes" in his Anything Goes District.

Pope Paul the Plagiarist chimed in to join the chorus of boos (or is that booze in Appleton?), because he hates Luther's doctrine even more than the Fox Valley wolves.

When babies face-palm, it's going to be a bad day.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church » 20120916 Children's Sermon:

There’s Room at the Table:  Everyone is invited
Pastor Jonathan Bauer

Emmanuel Lutheran Church
Tempe, Arizona

The invitation spells “it” out

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement,[i] through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith. For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.           Romans 3: 19-28

It is the difference between making the volleyball team and getting cut. It is the difference between signing with a major record label and singing karaoke for the rest of your life. It is the difference between playing for peanuts in Double A and making millions in the Majors. And yes, it is the difference between getting invited to the wedding, the birthday party, the retirement celebration, and staying at home.

I’m not trying to get you to guess what it is. Because it is “it.” Isn’t it a little strange that the reasons for the friends we keep, the girls we like, the artists whose songs we buy on iTunes, and the athletes we watch on TV are often so ambiguous, so indefinable, that we simply refer to them as “it”? In every high school there’s the “it” girl, the “it” guy, or the “it” couple. A few years back they made a show about aspiring actors and actresses called “The It Factor.” And back in the good old days when a guy wrote a song about a girl, he specified what about her made his heart race. Now, as a as a recent country song goes, he simply says, “She’s got whatever it is.”

So do you have “it”? If you do, then you’ve never had to experience that awful feeling. It’s what you feel as you frequently and frantically check your mailbox or inbox, waiting for the invitation to arrive. It’s what you feel while you wait for word that you made the list, that you’re in rather than out. And it’s the feeling you get when you finally realize the invitation isn’t coming. You never have to feel that way as long as you have “it.”

In many ways, this book, the Bible, is like an invitation. God is the host of a banquet far greater than any we’ve experienced. And this book is the invite, written by him, delivered to you, telling you how to get there. It’s much larger than what you could attach to an email or what the Postal Service would deliver for 44 cents. So God occasionally summarized the entire contents of this book in just a few short words. The verses in front of us are a prime example. In them we will see that, when it comes to getting invited to God’s party, nothing is ambiguous. Nothing is left undefined. And as a result, we will not be left with that awful feeling of uncertainty in the pit of our stomachs. We will never be left wondering if we have “it.” Because when it comes to God’s banquet, The invitation spells “it” out.

When you’re the host of a party, you probably know exactly the people you’re going to invite. But you would probably have a hard time defining exactly what “it” is that determines who makes the list. You just know. When it comes to the banquet of which God is the host, that’s not at all the case. The word that God uses again and again in his invitation that defines what “it” is that gets you into his banquet is the word righteousness. Perfection. Doing what’s right. Avoiding what’s wrong. And righteousness is one of those things where you either have “it” or you don’t. There’s no in between. And the first thing that God’s invitation spells out for us is that you and I need “it” in order to get in to his banquet.

So do you have “it”? Once we understand what “it” is, the answer is easy. But God’s invitation says it anyway. Because righteousness, absolute perfection, is what is needed to get into God’s banquet, you, me, every person on earth has the same dilemma. God says, “every mouth [is] silenced,” “the whole world is accountable to God,” “No one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law,” “There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” God’s invitation could not be any clearer! What’s needed to get into God’s banquet is righteousness, and the second thing that God’s invitation spells out is that everyone lacks “it.”

Now, I’m going to stop here for a moment and ask a question that sometimes troubles me and maybe does the same for you. Why would God put this on his invitation? Usually, when you get an invitation, the simple fact that you get one lets you know that whatever “it” is, you have it. Otherwise, why would you be invited? In fact, wedding invitations often say something like, “The honour of your presence is requested….” and they even spell honour all fancy, with a “u” stuck in between the “o” and the “r,” so you know they mean it. And if the hosts would be honoured with your presence, then you know you must have it. So why does God put on his invitation: Here’s what “it” is, and you don’t have “it”? Why does God say things like that in his word? Why do you have to hear thinks like that when you come to church?

Here’s why. Every family and every circle of friends has that one guy who simply assumes he’s invited to everything. He’s kind of loud. A little cocky. He always has to be the center of attention. And no matter what the event, whether it’s a big bash that everyone is invited to or a small, intimate gathering of friends, he simply assumes he’s invited. And even if he isn’t, he’s going to show up anyway.

You and I are kind of like that guy. We want to assume that we’re invited to God’s banquet. If righteousness is what we need, well then, we might not have all of “it” but we certainly have some of “it” and we absolutely have more of “it” than all those awful, awful people that we work with or live by or am related to.

And what’s worse, because we think that way we are inescapably destined to show up at the door to God’s banquet and, and show him whatever “it” is that we think makes us worthy to get in. And make no mistake, unless “it” is complete and total righteousness, God will look at us and say, “That’s ‘it’?!?” Out you go. God makes it inescapably clear that everyone lacks what he requires. Trying to show God that there’s a difference between us and other people is like taking a piece of wedding cake and trying to separate the flour, the eggs, and the sugar that were used to bake it.

So, friends, let’s not be troubled. Rather let’s be thrilled that God’s invitation spells “it” out, thrilled that God’s invitation reminds us that when it comes to what’s needed to get into God’s banquet, no one has “it.”

And let’s be even more thrilled that the invitation says more. Just as God had previously said that all people have the same problem, his invitation also tells us that he has provided all people with the same solution. God’s invitation says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified,” that means to declare someone righteous, “and are justified freely by his grace.” Did you hear that? God provides us with the solution to our problem. Not just freely. Not just by his grace. But “freely by his grace.” It would be like walking into Best Buy, seeing the flat screen that you’ve always wanted but could never afford. Only this time there’s a sign that says, “Free.” And it also says, “$0.00.” Once again, God’s invitation couldn’t be any clearer! His gift of righteousness is absolutely free. Just as there was no difference among those who lack “it” there is also no difference between those who are given “it.” Because “it” free of charge, there’s no one who can’t afford “it.”

Now, I’m going to stop again for a moment and ask a question that’s even more troubling. How can God’s invitation say this? He made it crystal clear. Righteousness is what we need to get in and righteousness is what we lack. So how can he say, “Oh, nevermind. I’ll just give it to everyone for free”? I mean, it sounds like good news. But it sounds like he’s going back on his word and so it doesn’t sound at all like God.

Thankfully, the invitation says more. God says, “All are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” You see, God couldn’t just ignore that fact that we all lack righteousness and deserve death and condemnation. He couldn’t change his mind about sin or its punishment. But because he loved us so much that he desperately wanted to give us righteousness as a free gift, he had to find another place to take out all of his pent up anger against sin. And so that’s what he did. He found a scapegoat. He found his Son. Instead of punishing us for our lack of righteousness, God “presented [Jesus] as a sacrifice of atonement.” In so doing, God found a way to reconcile two seemingly opposing characteristics, his demand for perfection and his unconditional love and mercy for those same people. He found a way to write two seemingly contradictory statements on his invitation. What it is that is needed to get into his banquet is still righteousness. Everyone still lacks “it.” But now God’s invitation spells out that through the work of Christ, the world’s scapegoat, the world’s substitute, God has provided “it.”

Was there a specific name and face that came to mind when I mentioned that loud, egotistical friend who always assumes he’s invited to everything? If you know someone like that, you probably also have seen that their arrogance almost always serves as a mask for deep-seated insecurity. The people who act the most sure of themselves are often the ones who are the least. And the same is true of you and me. We’re strange creatures that way. As much as we are prone to think that we must possess some redeemable quality that makes us worthy to get into God’s banquet, deep, deep down we are also prone to doubt whether if we’re really good enough. We’re burdened by insecurity and guilt and fear in our relationship with God. We know that righteousness is what he expects and no matter how hard we try, we don’t have enough of it.

WELS re-issued this Dreck in 2011.

So thankfully the invitation spells it out, and spells it out clearly. Having the righteousness that God demands from us hinges only on two things. The grace of God and the work of Christ. And God’s invitation makes it clear that both of those are for everyone. [GJ - Reading comprehension - total failure.]

And since that’s the case, give me one good reason why he wouldn’t let you in. Name one sin that makes you unworthy. Name one character flaw that means you don’t belong. We might think to ourselves, “What about the fact that I lose my temper with my spouse and my kids and my coworkers? What about the fact that I’ve got secret sins that would make the devil blush? What about the fact that I don’t feel like I fit in with the church crowd? What about the fact that this child doesn’t have the intellectual or rational capabilities of an adult?

Let me spell it out. Let God’s invitation spell it out. It does not matter. Everything that is important about having the righteousness God demands doesn’t involve you. God’s grace. Christ’s work. That’s it.

So whenever you stand before your God, whether it’s today as you to worship, whether it’s tomorrow when you work or study, whether it’s the day when you stand before him in judgment, don’t feel like you need to bring a gift. Don’t feel like you need to bring a bottle of wine. By all means don’t bring your arrogance and your self-righteousness. By all means don’t bring your doubt and despair. Why? Because the invitation spells it out. God demands righteousness. You need it. Everyone lacks it. In his grace and through Christ’s work, God provides it. So by all means, bring it. Amen.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
~ Romans 8:28

GJ - I thought chapel sermonettes at Mequon were bad, but this one really bottoms out. Almost all of it is a meaningless digression designed to be clever, lacking any discernment about the Word of God.

But that is the point of UOJ - nothing matters, because everyone is forgiven and everyone is saved. Ask the boss, Delusional Pope Buchholz, MDiv. Those Muslims who just burned down the Lutheran Church? They are forgiven and saved. Done. Period. Finished. Ask DP Buchholz.

The citation is from the Classic NIV, which I spotted for lacking the imaginary "all." Oh, how they ache for that "all" in WELS. Jay Webber probably covets it too, although he speaks against the New NIV as the roving ambassador for the Little Sect on the Prairie. The ELS and the LCMS do not like the New NIV. Will they break fellowship with WELS and ELCA over this? No - they all love UOJ.

Why is the  [i]  left there from the Bible Gateway version? That is a sign of Wiki-itis. Students copy Wikidpedia and leave the footnote markings. Since the footnotes are linked [embedded in the text - something Mequonites do not grasp], the little blue marks take the amused professor right to source, which is Bible Gateway in this case, the NIV promotion site.

Pastor Bauer should have used a proper citation, so the innocent readers know the Classic NIV was being used. It does make a difference to most people. Mequon is different. As bad as the NIV is, the 1984 version preserves the distinction between all have sinned and all who are justified.

Some people, mostly Mequon graduates, bristle when I make fun of their extremely low capacity in reading and writing. Reading comprehension is an aptitude that gets one into graduate study or bars the door.

The entire section quoted repeats the message of the Apostle, with a three-fold emphasis upon the righteousness of faith. As Luther's Galatians Commentary constantly teaches, there is -
1. The righteousness of the law.
2. The righteousness of faith.

The UOJ fanatics hide their one-and-only-message: forgiveness without faith. Let's look at one complete section from this passage, using the Classic KJV.

KJV Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

This is a wonderful statement of the Gospel, emphasizing faith in the atoning sacrifice of Christ. Justified freely is not universal absolution, as anyone can tell. The UOJites who yell "propitiation" must see propitiation through faith in His blood. But they do not. They are blind guides. They must see that He justifies those who believe in Christ. They do not - but change that to "those who believe in UOJ."

The turning point in this farrago of false doctrine is the red paragraph. According to Bauer, righteousness has nothing to do with faith, nothing to do with the Word, nothing to do with the Means of Grace. The Holy Spirit working through the Word? No - this Mequon Enthusiast says that God's grace and Christ's work equal the righteousness of the entire world. Done. Finished. Period. End of story. Fire up the coffee bar.

I wonder if the assignment was to write a sermon that used Romans 3, ignored faith, and reversed the meaning of Paul's Gospel, because anything other than the righteousness of faith is the righteousness of the law.

Luther made this point - that Enthusiasts talk about Jesus but tear down the bridge to Him, the Means of Grace. They denounce the efficacy of God's Word but fill the world with their own words.

Since I mentioned being victimized by Paul Wendland - one can find the same maladroit approach to   St. Paul, or should I say - the same dishonest approach. Doubtless both are convinced because both were germinated in the same greenhouse of Halle Pietism. But still, both are dishonest about the actual text, even while striving to be true to Holy Mother WELS.

One LCA pastor used to say, "Holy Mother Church is a whore." Everyone would be better off remembering that bit of wisdom. There is a vast difference between the visible, institutional church and true, invisible Church.

Sadly, the apostates are in charge of the Lutheran Church and working hard to exterminate faith. Jesus said, "When the Son of Man returns, will He find faith?"

Someone should have warned Jesus not to talk about faith so much. The beloved apostle, John, really overdid faith. So did Paul.

Not to worry. The New NIV will obliterate and obscure anything left of the Gospel. Faith is separating the visible Christian Church. That is a scandal. Once removed, everyone will be united in a common lack of faith.
