Wisconsin Synod's Jars of Clay -
The Glorious, Immaculate History of the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary

I came across a pristine copy of Jars of Clay, A History of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (1863-2013) by John Sparky Brenner SJ, and Peter Prange. The Evangelical Lutheran Synod calls Mequon The Sausage Factory, because every graduate comes out exactly the same.

I know too much about the dogma of WELS and its counterparts - ELS, CLC (sic), LCMS. They glorify themselves to such an extent that any other place must imagine Heaven to be a crushing disappointment.

The "strict" seminaries and synods end up just like ELCA, gathering around such beacons of nonsense as

  • Fuller Seminary,
  • the Hour of Power (oops gone, now the Assumption of Mary),
  • the Purpose Driven Church,
  • and much more.
