Grace - The Most Abused Word in the New Testament - Our Fault!

How easily we use the word "grace" while letting the concept wither and fade. Repetition of "grace" is even more likely to miss the connection.

5 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

"Boi Gollie!" as my father-in-law used to say. The only way we can enjoy grace is by faith in Jesus Christ. The abundance of grace is from the greatness of His.

And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Pastor Emeritus - Definition of the Title

In days of old, a pastor emeritus was given that title for years of previous labor and also for helping with the clerical work in a large, populated congregation.

Bethany Lutheran Church began about 30 years ago and has retained the title of the congregation. Moving to Sleepy Eye has opened up many new ways to serve others. For example, I participate in various activities with the elderly who use walkers, wheelchairs, steadying devices, and limited walking. Many of my new friends are in their 80s and 90s. That makes me the kid in many gatherings.

I cannot handle the demands of Zoom or YouTube, not to mention the aging eye strain. One approach is to use the regular Sunday service that is keyed to the season - like Epiphany 3 - but also limited in its scope. Emphasizing Sunday is a good way to use the weekdays.
