Campus Ministry Is No Place To Vent:
How Synods Abuse the Trust Placed in the Leadership

That Rydecki's church was found to be in noncompliance on the CEF loan is not surprising. Recall that in the LCMS, Minnesota-South district terminated the Minneapolis campus ministry rental agreement simply because they had installed a dryer with vent so they could home dry-clean their altar vestments and eliminate dry cleaning bills. ("Dry cleaning at home" is why there are so few dry cleaners left in business, in addition to the more casual attire seen everywhere, even worn by clergy at altars and pulpits!)

Some name-withheld person told Rev. Jackson it was hard to believe the hammer could fall on Rev. Rydecki's church so fast, citing the time needed for due process. Well, I'm not surprised at all, since I've seen the hammer fall pretty fast in the WELS when someone pushes the right buttons, or has no political support. All it takes is a few phone calls. In the WELS and LCMS they are proud to say they'll "have your back," that is  - unless something someone says or does is indefensible. Then they starting define "indefensible" downward.

GJ - The source knows of the vindictiveness and untrustworthiness of WELS leaders.

ULC and their unauthorized washer and dryer:

http://www.ulcmn.org/Files/Save%20ULC%20Files/LkSuperior%20Mem-Mar2012.pdf

The only unauthorized “capital improvement” ULC has made, that we are aware of, was to install a washer and dryer for use by our janitors and altar guild. We did not consider this a capital improvement so did not seek permission.

DP Jon-Boy Buchholz Got Away with Tyranny,
Just Like ELS SP John Moldstad Before,
Plus Many More Like Them

Brett Meyer has left a new comment on your post "How Did WELS DP Buchholz Excuse Foreclosing on the...":

This letter should be read by every (W)ELS member.

http://ichabodthegloryhasdeparted.blogspot.com/2012/10/letter-to-wels-district-president-jon.html

The (W)ELS has condoned DP Pastor Jon Buchholz' applying the label of heretic, then the excommunication of faithful Pastor Paul Rydecki from fellowship in the WELS.

Rydecki to Buchholz, "But in true papistic fashion, you have refused from the beginning even to admit the possibility that you could have erred or that the WELS doctrinal statements may be wrong. You called me to repentance for preaching that “all who trust in Christ are absolved before God’s courtroom.” You stood in front of my congregation and called me a false teacher for teaching the Gospel that sinners are justified by faith alone in Christ, and now you have suspended me from the ministerium of the WELS."

Are the actions of DP Buchholz, which have been condoned by the WELS, ELS and LCMS, in opposition to Christ and His Church when Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions only teach that sinners are justified by faith alone in Christ? Yes.

an·ti·christ/ˈantēˌkrīst/Noun:
1.A great personal opponent of Christ who will spread evil throughout the world before being conquered at Christ's Second Coming.
2.A person or force seen as opposing Christ or the Christian Church.

GJ -  The aggression of bullies like Buchholz is not so shocking, given the extensive cult training forced upon the supposed elite in WELS.

But the passive surrender of the clergy and many laity - that is surprising. They should be driving Buchholz out of town, baiting him with dogs and pelting him with manure - for teaching against the Gospel in the name of the Gospel.

Luther was quite explicit about lazybones pride-swells like Jon-boy, who has to tell everyone who his relatives were, as if he picked them hisself.

Correction to the post title - DP Buchholz didn't get away with tyranny.

Because, to date, he has rejected faithful Pastor Rydecki's call to repentance and has refused to return to the Scriptural and Confessional Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. His heart is hardened against Christ and the one true Gospel and... actually Hunnius spoke about Buchholz's huberianism years ago (Intrepids that are sympathetic to those UOJists who hold authority in the Synods may want to look away at this point or suck on a tablespoon of sugar):

Hunnius refuting the UOJ of Huberite DP Jon Buchholz, ”We are pleased to explain with clear words what our sentence is regarding his points, and to lay the foundation of Scriptural support and, by the grace of God, to fortify our position on all sides in such a way that not only will Huber be completely unable to defend against it, but not even the gates of hell will be able to prevail against it. Nor shall we hesitate to defend publicly the doctrine contained in these propositions, either in solemn colloquy or also, if it seems appropriate, in general council against this insolent and insulting Thraso and, by the grace of God, so to stop up his impudent mouth (which knows how to spew forth nothing but the most shameful lies) that learned and unlearned alike may carefully observe who that spirit is by whose dictation Huber vomits forth his writings in the Christian world and truly tries to sell and thrust his belchings and vomitings upon all people even rulers in place of the heavenly truth, to the extent that his gift for impudence is able.”
Theses Opposed To Huberianism, Page 6

Those who pervert the Gospel of Christ stand condemned by God.

Matthew 12:37, “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”
Matthew 18:6-7, “But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe unto the world because of offences! For it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!”

How Did WELS DP Buchholz Excuse Foreclosing on the Loan to Rydecki's Congregation?

Free foreign vacations are included in the perks.

The discussion on your blog about the CEF call on the loan in NM has sparked my interest.

I have a recent (2012) set of loan approval documents from the CEF.  There is nothing in their loan approval about being a WELS church.  There are just some weasel words regarding being in agreement on Ministry.

So, I am not really sure how the mission board could have met and then aligned with the CEF in just a few weeks to decide that the NM church was not in unity regarding ministry.

I think is it ridiculous to presume that the Mission Board met and the CEF all in the matter of a couple of weeks? And were in complete agreement…

14. Cancellation:

WELS CEF reserves the right to cancel this commitment and terminate the obligations hereunder at

any time if any of the following occurs:

a. Rejection of ministry plan by WELS Board for Home Missions.

b. Congregation fails to comply with any of the requirements of this commitment.

c. Defects in title to the property are discovered.

d. A filing against the congregation in any circuit court for any reason.

e. Any substantial adverse change in the condition of the property or in the financial condition of

the congregation.

Feel free to use the above information as you wish.

Rydecki is above,
CP Steve Spencer is below.

GJ - Someone from the Arizona-California WELS district told me that Buchholz was threatening foreclosure on the New Mexico congregation the moment the congregation voted to leave the false-teaching WELS.

It is a matter of public record that Buchholz promised the congregation, when he was there, to continue discussing the topic of justification.

Instead, the lying DP sent an email or letter telling Rydecki that he was kicked out.

Some might quibble about excommunication, but would any of the timid rabbits in that district dare to commune Pastor Paul Rydecki?

Please send a list of those who would defy the raging DP.

Yes, justification by faith is settled doctrine:
consult the Scriptures and the Confessions.

Garden Plans Start in the Fall and Winter.
Birds and Squirrels

The pileated woodpecker is rarely seen.
Ours posed for our guests, feasting on the wood borers from a dying oak.
The oak tree had to be cut down.

I know people are interested in Creation, because the pileated woodpecker post is one of the all time favorites since June of 1970. It has been read almost 4,000 times.

One wit suggested including donkeys, birds, and kittens into posts, to make sure it is popular, no matter what the main topic.

The temperature hit 77 degrees yesterday, in spite of the December date. Sassy celebrated by finding some horse manure in a garden and rolling in it. She was quite pleased with herself. It was not the older, sweeter composted horse manure but the tangy, fresh, loaded-with-nitrogen-compounds kind. She had an outside bath so she could be trusted inside for a Lemon Verbena bath. She was suitably contrite, although I distrust the sincerity of a drama queen like her.

One of my first jobs in the new house was putting up the squirrel-proof bird feeder. The squirrels in Bella Vista had it figured out after one year, so I was giving up on it. I would have left it in place, except I figured the Springdale squirrels were too far away to have received training from the Bella Vista rodents.

The feeder is placed near the bedroom window, where we can enjoy it in the mornings and evenings, the favorite times for bird feeding. We also have a watering station outside for Sassy, but that will serve the birds and other creatures to some extent. A large clay dish, for underneath plants, will be the birdbath. I hate to spend money to buy a hardware store birdbath that is little more than an elevated ceramic dish. Two dollars for one or 30 for the other? Not much of a decision.

We have two dead trees and four living ones in the grassy, fenced backyard. Dead trees are ideal for birds. They love to have extra perches for observing ground movement and potential food. They feel safe from most predators there. They are natural feeding stations. I will be buying suet again, assuming we are too urban for raccoons. A dead tree is a good place for extra food. I like to place food around the house and create a bird habitat. It does not take much time or money, just a little attention now and then.

We have some good areas for gardening. The front will feature a row of Double Delight roses. The back garden will have potatoes and some other favorites. So - I am starting to compost for the spring.

A compost bin is easy to create. Just take a length of cheap chicken wire and form a cylinder. I will probably buy about 10 to 12 feet. I will place it on the ground and begin filling it with leaves, grass, and organic material. The bottom is open to the soil and grass, so those creatures have easy access to a supermarket of warm, wet food all winter. The top and sides are open to air and rain.

Dog and cat manure do not go into compost, because those pets can be intermediate hosts for some unpleasant creatures. Cow, horse, and rabbit manure are good additions, but grass and other green materials will also supply nitrogen compounds to speed up decomposition. Fresh grass will heat up and speed up a compost pile. It is worthwhile to take a pile of fresh grass and see what happens and observe how hot it gets from the bacteria that heat it up. I have seen "steam" rising from decomposing grass.

Leaves and wood by-products can bind up nitrogen but they do not rob the compost of nitrogen, as some imagine. Leaves and wood use the nitrogen to decompose and then release it. One study showed that wood adds to total soil fertility. So does clay, which is good for the transfer of minerals. Clay, if handled well, is the richest of soils.

All soils benefit from large increases of humus (organic material) from manure and compost. Sandy, loam, and clay soils become more fertile and support a larger earthworm population. Richer soils attract more birds, and birds reduce pests. Therefore, simply keeping the free organic material in a yard will increase its production and beauty in time. No gardener has ever said, "I have too much compost."

In Midland, I was the guy who collected as much grass and leaves as I could from neighbors. I either mulched or composted what I collected. Everyone smirked until the Silver Queen white corn grew six feet tall and ripened. Then my neighbors asked, "How is that sweet corn doing?" I was happy to share it and tell them how they were eating corn planted in four feet of compost, a goldmine of balanced chemicals and soil prepared by an army of earthworms.

Use shiny 8" chimney pipe slid over a post for a cheap baffle to keep squirrels off feeders on posts, or fit over ledges to stop squirrels from using ledges as a diving platform (the chimney pipe opened up lengthwise can attach itself to ledges with its spring action). If they can't get a good grip, they can't jump as well, since unlike humans, squirrels need a grip to make long jumps.

I found that an upside-down 5-gallon pail fits snugly over a 3-hole cinder block, and that serves as a nice firm base for a bird bath.

A submersible de-icer can be had for $30. They only heat the water up to just about freezing, so the heater won't crack pottery bird baths, nor fry plastic bird baths, nor use a lot of electricity. The heater element has a couple bumps on it to keep it off the bottom of whatever it is placed in. Buy a cheap timer so it only runs from 8AM to 4:30PM when the birds are out. The larger watt heaters are best because the 75 watt ones may need hours to work, and if the birds check out the water and find it frozen, they won't come back as much. For safety, use a GFCI adapter if your outside outlet doesn't have GFCI built in:

Moving Memories - Books To Keep

Father Mapple preached from the prow of a ship
in his sailors' chapel.
The Gregory Peck movie was scary and strange
for children.
We have settled down enough in our new home to enjoy some normal days, knowing where the essentials are. We moved to downsize our rent and be closer to higher education work, since Bella Vista is north of the population center of Northwest Arkansas.

I divided my library into three sections:

  1. Books to keep,
  2. Books to sell or give away.
  3. Books that need mailing.

The books to keep are:
Luther's Sermons - the old red 8 volume Lenker set - my favorite reading in the car and at doctors' offices.
Luther's Galatians Commentary - Kregel edition.
Concordia Triglotta - Sassy chewed on it, but the binding stood up to her hunger.
All Martin Chemnitz books - Examination, Enchiridion, Two Natures of Christ, Lord's Supper.
Moby Dick - The novel that is not a novel.
The Wind in the Willows
Dickens - A Christmas Carol.

Many great books are digital now and easy to call up and use, such as Luther's works.

I lost track of how many boxes of books I have gathered and given away, perhaps 50 boxes. I am not sure. I look for bargains and give them away to friends and students.
