| Sayings of Krauth - Free. |
Hi Pastor Jackson,
Just wanted to let you know that I was at a used bookstore yesterday and happened across an 1895 Charles Porterfield Krauth Conservative Reformation. Hmm, where have I seen that name before? Ah yes, at your website!
So, I went ahead and snapped 'er up.
Just might be the best $20 I ever spent.
In a cursory perusal of its contents I experienced a breath of fresh air of writing uncontaminated by these modern times, but yet speaks to us directly in a way where it might have been written just last week.
Thank you Pastor Jackson for keeping names such as this in circulation, as these just might land in fertile ground - as is the case here.
Yours, in Christ,
Stone Christianson
Alec Satin's Work in the House Postils
In light of our conversation regarding Calvinism, etc., here is a brief and comforting section from Luther, his church postil Eleventh Sunday After Trinity:
[7] This is also proper fruit, since it promotes God's honor; as God desires nothing but the offering of praise, as Psalms, 50:23. says: "Whoso offereth the sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifieth me, and to him that ordereth his way aright, will I show the salvation of God."
In this way the publican also proceeds, gives God the offering of thanksgiving and secures to himself the forgiveness of sin, and praises God, puts himself to shame and exalts the truth above himself. Therefore we must praise and commend his work, because he gives God the highest honor and true worship. For he says: "God, be thou merciful to me a sinner." As though he would say: I am a rogue, this I confess, as you yourself know. Here you see that he confesses the truth, and is willing that God should reprove and revile him; yea, he does this himself, and casts himself down the very lowest, and with God he again rises upward, gives glory to God that he is gracious, kind and merciful. But in himself he finds nothing but sin. Wherefore these are the true fruits of faith.

| But where are the clowns? Quick, send in the clowns Don't bother they're here |
I have taught thousands of undergraduate and graduate students, so having everyone agree is not possible or even a good idea.
I work on people making a good argument for their position. That requires research. "Great writing comes from great research." G. Jackson. They call me a fanatic on research. "I have never had any teach so obsessed with research."
I point out that research used to mean driving 50 miles in the snow to the Notre Dame library, taking notes by hand or spending dollars on stinky, sticky photocopies. The students can sit at their computers with a bag of Fritos in one hand, two liters of Diet Coke in the other - weeping about how hard research on the Net is. Boo hoo. It reminds me of the suffering tenured seminary professors who travel to conferences paid for by Thrivent or your offerings. Each year - eight months of teaching half-days. So exhausting!
Lutherans are waking up to the fraud of Objective Justification. The three Watherian synods had Oh Jay! Webber and Jon-Boy Buchholz defend the indefensible at the Emmaus Conference. No heavyweights showed up for that debacle. Why not one of the great professors? One of the giants in synodical leadership?
Did Luther send an acolyte and a sexton to Worms?
It is obvious that Justification by Faith - the Chief Article - is drawing blood all over. The hysterical reactions are popping out here and there. They have to name me and even some of my writings. I chuckle about their struggles.
Meanwhile, Luther is gaining ground. Perhaps millions of Lutherans are suspicious that so little was done about the Reformation's 500th anniversary. After putting a Luther dog collar on their poodle, a Katie Luther spatula in their significant other's hand, and Here I Stand socks on grandpa, some might have thought, "There must be more to the Reformation than this!"

Concordia Ft. Wayne Has Low Biblical Languages Requirements -
But Every Graduate Is a Professor of Theology on Graduation Day
![]() |
| Like Diet Coke with Bacon, the LCMS cannot get much worse than the LCMS with Harrison, McCain, and Otten. |
Who appointed the graduates of Concordia Seminary, Ft. Wayne, to lecture and hector everyone?
- Philip Hale
- Paul the Plagiarist McCain
- Oh Jay! Webber
- Jack B. Simple Cascione
- Rolf Preus et al.
- His Holiness Bishop James Rodham Heiser
Those with not enough preparation for seminary had to attend to Ft. Wayne. It was called the practical seminary because they had to take courses that were already covered in prep school and college in the LCMS system.
Doubtless many Ft. Wayne graduates are fine pastors and actually read Romans and the Confessions. The ELDONUTs consider Ft. Wayne the ultimate, since most of them went there, so St. Louis is called "the other one."
Note that five on my list are notorious politicians, always working deals and leveraging their lack of academic ability. Bluster and repetition do not make up for their logical fallacies, academic crimes, ignorance of Lutheran doctrine, and blindness to the clear, plain Word of God. They substitute learning with their seminary slogans and preach to the synodocrat choir.
Grinning OJ response to Justification by Faith - "Oh, you think Justification is not complete? It needs another step?" I hear statements like that from all over.
David Scaer gave away the spirit of the LCMS when he wrote about his book on the Sermon on the Mount "going against synod traditions" - according to CPH - not that he does. No one bangs the Stephan Pietistic OJ drum harder than Scaer. On that precarious perch rests all the problems of the Synodical Conference.
Breaking news - I posted a quote from the Adventists that the entire LCMS-ELS-WELS crowd would be glad to say - and in fact have written many times. That page on the Adventist site is no longer available. When someone agrees with the Adventist cult, he is not Christian, Lutheran, or literate in Biblical knowledge. They must feel something is wrong when someone agrees with the LCMS or WELS.
In his book of confessions, Scaer wanted Objective Justification settled once and for all during the manufactured WAM II crisis, where the Preus brothers (who accomplished some good) never matched the academic ability and evangelism accomplishments of Dr. Walter A. Maier. However, the Righteous Brothers and Scaer treated Justification by Faith as a disease (denying OJ!) that had to be treated, compromised, adjusted, and shamed.

| He means, of course, the official teachings of the LCMS, which put together, look like a bag of cats being taken to the river to drown. |
Matt the Fatt Has Done It! - Settled OJ Once and For All
The shameful dogmatics book and the enormous "Small" Catechism have canonized OJ. Who is in charge? - Harrison is the failed doctoral candidate (Concordia, St. Louis) and Paul the Plagiarist McCain are the two blokes who love Stephan's false doctrine. From now on, anyone teaching Justification by Faith will be pistol-whipped with those publication disasters. No one mentions the gay lib Book of Concord. So many things are covered up. But the jawing, yowling OJers will never let go of this victory. They will use their meager mental resources to go back to the books each time.
Given enough time, the LCMS can be just as tiny, worthless, corrupt, and mean as the Church of the Lutheran Confession (sic).

The Aircraft Carrier - aka - Ichaboat - Has Been Sold
![]() |
| I often had Sassy wait for me in the driver's seat, which made her look like my chauffeur to amused observers. |
Someone needed a car, and we were at the point where repairs would be a burden. Ranger Bob did all he could in fixing things up.
It was a fun day, because three people came - the lady who would buy it and two relatives who loved cars. They favor Lincoln Town Cars and our 1994 model is the Executive, often used to make stretch limos. We called it the limo, but Bob named it "The Aircraft Carrier."
The men took it out for a drive, which included Interstate 49. They loved the car, especially when they saw the Chilton Repair Manual inside - a gift for them. They knew what to do, which was a relief for me. Rock Auto Parts and do-it-yourself makes an older car a bargain.
Our only major repair in 10 years was the AC unit. Other than that, we had batteries, tires, the usual repairs. An insurance check from a hailstorm (minor little pings on the surface) gave us the money for some life-extending repairs. I wanted two more years out of the car and got four more.
| Sassy was the star of the dog park when we were both younger. |
Sassy had the key seat for ordering at McDonalds, since only the back window on that side worked. I had to shout out her window, and she poked her nose close to the speaker. I would order my sandwich, then Chris', then after "anything else?" - a vanilla ice cream cone. Sassy would bark her happy bark, which begins with a piercing, overjoyed yelp.
Next, paying for the food meant a lively conversation with the cashier, often joined by two staffers laughing and saying hello to her. Sassy often let go with a series of barks.
The food window got her the biggest smiles. The cone was handed to me like a gold medal. We began sharing cones in Phoenix, when she was 10 years younger. There she tapped my shoulder if I did not hand over her part soon enough. In the Lincoln, she raked the back of the leather seat to make noise.
April Fools Day Edition of Christian News - Featuring David Scaer, P. Hale, and the Glories of Objective Justification.

| Let's change this portrait and paint Calvin on it. Nobody will notice. |
Otten started his April Fools Day issue with favorable coverage of the Maier brothers, one a professor attacked by Scaer in his Confessions of a Heretic book. The other may become synod president - in spite of Otten's demi-semi-endorsement.
The issue glorifies the Scaer book and a shorter book on Objective Justification. P. Hale is another stunted and blinded graduate of "The Fort" - as they like to call their dying school.
Otten claims to "sell to both sides of the issues," but he truly loves the Calvinistic, Pietistic Objective Justification of Stephan, Walther, and the Adventists.

Mark 1
16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
19 And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.
20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.
22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
The Son of God Created Faith in Them - They Followed Him
Mark 1:16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
As Jesus walked along the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon and Andrew, and He had divine knowledge about them. The narration is very simple and therefore more powerful in its effect. The men could hardly miss the extraordinary effect Jesus had on them.
17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
This is a familiar theme that children learn in Sunday School. We got the impression the disciples had rod and reel fishing poles, because we reeled them in with the song, "fishers of men, fishers of men."
That is a great jump in ideas, from casting nets to catching men in nets.
Matthew 1347 “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
Lenski assumes they were first taught by Jesus and then He called them to be apostles. However, we can certainly assume that He read their character and budding faith in Him, simply commanding them to follow Him in faith.
Jesus gave the gracious invitation, and they responded in faith. We should always remember their stages or growth in faith. As time went on, they received more instruction and saw more miracles. The initial success met with opposition and they felt that death threat. Their greatest growth came as a result of the arrest, torture, and death of their Master. They saw the depths of woe He endured - that they endured with Him - and were guided by the purest faith afterwards, most of them dying young and violently while teach the Gospel of Peace.
At this stage they gave up their living - and food - and followed Him who showed them how to trust in Him.
19 And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.
Here is a second pair of brothers, doing work necessary for their food, repairing the nets. Simple statements of fact are mixed with the call of Jesus to become apostles and their immediate acceptance.
20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.
Jesus was assembling a group of disciples, soon to be called "apostles" after the name for "sent." As Jesus was sent by the Father, so He would send them. And they heard Him teach the Word of God as the divine Son of God.
22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
This marked the beginning of people believing in Him and also - opposition growing. When someone teaches with the authority of the Word, then those who rely on other authorities become jealous. They want the digested view of the past, not hard but fulfilling work of studying the Word itself. The result is a lot of hemming and hawing. "Scholars are divided on this." And - "This is a graaaay area of Scripture."
Because Jesus taught the pure Word, people responded with joy about the Promises of God. Ordinary people felt blessed and believed in Him.

Calvinists Wobble But They Do Not Convert
From the beginning, with Zwingli and Calvin, a group of non-Catholics has pretended to be almost Lutheran. We would be succumbing to their chameleon-like poses if we called them Protestants, because the Lutherans were first called that at the Speier Conference, 1529.
From this protest and appeal the Lutherans were called Protestants; with good reason, if we look at their attitude to Rome, which remains the same to this day.Luther preferred to call his group the Evangelicals, but that name was also nicked by the Calvinists.
They would like us to believe that the Lutherans are too Roman to be called Protestant or Evangelical, because - like mercury adhering to gold and silver - they want to be associated with the Reformation. Their earnest desire is to sell their books and programs to the Lutherans without being "infected" (they would say) by the efficacy of the Word, the Means of Grace, and Justification by Faith. If that resistance to Biblical basics reminds you of Lutheran leadership today, you are catching on.
Do Calvinists teach the Sacraments?
No, they do not. The Sacraments are merely ordinances, symbols that do not work God's will, since the Holy Spirit is independent of the Word.
Do Calvinists agree with the Bible and Luther on predestination?
No, they teach people as being born elect or born to the covenant, since their salvation was determined at the beginning of time.
Do Calvinists teach Justification by Faith?
No, their peculiar anti-Biblical separation of the Word from the Spirit fills the void, they think, with double predestination. Robert Preus went to the Calvinists to prop us his Objective Justification arguments, according to David Scaer.
How does one cooperate with Calvinists?
Lutherans are free to deny the efficacy of the Word, the Means of Grace, infant faith, the Real Presence, and Justification by Faith, because these doctrinal points annoy Calvinists and prevent what they consider true fellowship with Lutherans. Calvinists will cease being scandalized by Biblical, Lutheran doctrine when their demands are met. And they are largely met today.
Do Calvinists eventually become Lutherans?
No, they turn into Unitarians, because rationalism supplants Biblical faith.
Is there anything we admire about the Calvinists?
We admire everything about the Calvinists - except their doctrine. (Krauth)
