Dear Pastor Jackson,
Jesus is God and man in one person! Luther taught us to believe this. Scripture also clearly teaches this in Colossians 2:9:
For
I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them
at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;
2 That
their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto
all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the
acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.
5 For
though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit,
joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in
Christ.
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8 Beware
lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the
tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after
Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11 In
whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands,
in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of
Christ:
12 Buried
with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the
faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13 And
you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath
he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting
out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was
contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Colossians 2:1-15
Notice
that precious little word "Godhead" in Colossians 2:9 immediately
brings to mind the Holy Trinity: God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
All the fullness of the Godhead dwells in Jesus bodily!
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Colossians 2:9
This is the Jesus we believe in: God and man in one person! We confess this in the Athanasian Creed:
"Furthermore it is necessary to everlasting salvation that he also believes faithfully the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For the right faith is that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is God and Man.
God of the Substance of the Father, begotten before the worlds; and Man of the substance of His mother, born in the world;
Perfect God and perfect Man, of a reasonable soul and human flesh subsisting.
Equal to the Father as touching His Godhead and inferior to the Father as touching His manhood;
Who, although He be God and Man, yet He is not two, but one Christ:
One, not by conversion of the Godhead into flesh, but by taking the manhood into God;
One altogether; not by confusion of Substance, but by unity of Person.
For as the reasonable soul and flesh is one man, so God and Man is one Christ;
Who suffered for our salvation; descended into hell; rose again the third day from the dead;
He
ascended into heaven; He sitteth on the right hand of the Father, God
Almighty; from whence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
At
whose coming all men shall rise again with their bodies and shall give
account of their own works." (The Lutheran Hymnal, CPH, 1941, pg. 53)
Notice
that precious little word 'Godhead' occurs three times in the
Athanasian Creed. It is there because it is in God's Word: Colossians
2:9:
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Colossians 2:9 KJV
Is
this little word 'Godhead' precious to your faith? It is precious to my
faith!! I am at this moment opening my Bible to Colossians 2:9 and read
as follows:
9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, Colossians 2:9 NIV

9-10 Yet
it is in him that God gives a full and complete expression of himself
(within the physical limits that he set himself in Christ). Moreover,
your own completeness is only realised in him, who is the authority over
all authorities, and the supreme power over all powers. Colossians 2:9

Make sure that no one leads you astray with an empty and deceitful philosophy that depends on human tradition and worldly principles, and not on Christ.
God Has Given You Life in Christ. 9 For it is in him that the entire fullness of deity dwells in bodily form, 10 and you share this fullness in him who is the head of every ruler and power.
