And He Is Not Missouri or WELS?
Predator priest returns to duty

Father Thomas Knowles giving a surmon at St Francis church in Melbourne

Predator priest returns to duty:

A leading Australian priest who sexually preyed on a disabled and vulnerable woman on Sydney's north shore for 14 years has been allowed to return to preaching and running community groups at one of the nation's busiest churches.
The recent decision by the Catholic Church to allow Father Tom Knowles to return to full duties at St Francis' in Melbourne's central business district after about 16 months of "administrative leave" has outraged his victim and victims' groups.

Father Knowles's reinstatement comes after the church apologised to Jennifer Herrick, paid her $100,000 in compensation and acknowledged "the harm that can be caused to vulnerable people in such a case".

Ms Herrick's story highlights a rarely exposed facet of church abuse: vulnerable adult parishioners who are targeted by their priest for a sexual relationship.

While the case falls outside the royal commission on child sex abuse because she was 22 when the sexual relationship began, her lawyer, Peter Karp, said: "The adult victims [of clergy abuse] are voiceless victims."

Psychologists say such relationships may be compared with those in which doctors have sex with vulnerable patients, while a professor of theology at the Australian Catholic University, Neil Ormerod, believes there may be hundreds of similar cases yet to emerge....

Father Duro said last week: ''We express our deep regret at the hurt suffered by the complainant and the harm Fr Knowles's behaviour has caused his fellow religious and the church; we believe everything … to alleviate the complainant's suffering and to address Fr Knowles's responsibility for his actions has been done and it is appropriate for him to return to public ministry.''

Manti Te'o girlfriend hoax: Former Notre Dame All-American breaks his silence - chicagotribune.com:

Manti Te'o broke his silence late Friday and denied any involvement in the dead girlfriend hoax that has consumed the former Notre Dame All-American for days, while saying the man behind the ruse apologized two days ago via social media.

"I wasn't faking it," Te'o told ESPN's Jeremy Schaap in an off-camera interview. "I wasn't part of this."

A 22-year-old named Ronaiah Tuiasosopo allegedly preyed upon Te'o in creating a bogus woman named Lennay Kekua who began an online- and telephone-only relationship with Te'o, Notre Dame's bellwether linebacker, only to die in September of leukemia and create a personal back story that propelled Te'o to national renown but ultimately crumbled this week.
Schaap reported after a two and a half hour interview with Te'o that the player wasn't completely sure Kekua did not exist until two days ago -- when Tuiasosopo reached out to Te'o via Twitter to admit he was behind the hoax and apologize for it.
Te'o told ESPN that he understood two men and one woman were involved, though he doesn't know the identities of the individuals other than Tuiasosopo. ESPN asked Te'o what he believed should happen to Tuiasosopo.
"I hope he learns," Te'o said. "I hope he understands what he's done. I don't wish an ill thing to somebody. I just hope he learns. I think embarrassment is big enough."
Te'o told ESPN he was never asked for money, but Kekua once requested his checking account number in order to send him money. Te'o did not provide it.
As for at least one glaring inconsistency -- the story of how Te'o and Kekua met -- the former Irish star admitted to a lie. The relationship, such as it was, began during Te'o's sophomore year at Notre Dame via Facebook, he told ESPN. He attempted to contact Kekua via Skype and Facetime but never saw a face on the other end, Te'o said.
And as for the story of meeting Kekua on the field at Stanford in 2009, a tale retold by his father in October, Te'o said: "I kind of tailored my stories to have people think that, yeah, he met her before she passed away."
"I knew that - I even knew that it was crazy that I was with somebody that I didn't meet," Te'o said. "And that alone people find out that this girl who died I was so invested in, and I didn't meet her as well."
One published detail, though, eluded Te'o's explanation. An October story in the South Bend Tribune depicted Te'o and Kekua touching hands in their initial meeting. That was not part of the fabrication Te'o passed along to his father, who was the paper's source for the anecdote.
"I'd never told anybody that I've touched her hand," Te'o told ESPN.
Te'o also was asked why he never visited Kekua in the hospital while she battled leukemia.
"It never really crossed my mind," Te'o said. "I don't know. I was in school."
He then added that the purported Kekua family told him not to come to what was obviously a non-existent funeral, per Lennay Kekua's wishes.
"They didn't want -- and I didn't want myself -- I didn't want that to be the first time that I saw her was laying in a coffin," Te'o said.
As for the Dec. 6 call in which Lennay Kekua reentered his realm, Te'o presented the following sequence as written in the ESPN.com story:
He received a phone call from the number Kekua had used. He answered and a woman's voice on the other end said there was something she needed to tell him, but it could wait until after the national title game on Jan. 8.
"I said you have to tell me now, because if you don't tell me now, I'm still going to think about it," Te'o said. "... She said, well, Manti, it's me. That's all she said. And I played stupid for a little bit. I was like, oh, I know it's you, U'ilani (Kekua's purported sister) .What do you mean? And she's like, no, Manti, it's me."
Te'o asked who "me" was.
"She said, it's Lennay," he said. "So we carried on that conversation, and I just got mad. I just went on a rampage. How could you do this to me? I ended that conversation by saying, simply this: You know what, Lennay, my Lennay died on Sept. 12."
ESPN reported Friday that Tuiasosopo called a friend from church in early December and admitted he duped Te'o, without the Notre Dame linebacker playing a part in the deception. Deadspin.com, which broke the girlfriend hoax story Wednesday, reported that Te'o might have played a role in the fraud.

Te'o denied that he used the situation to enhance his Heisman Trophy candidacy. He finished second in the voting to Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel.

"When (people) hear the facts, they'll know," Te'o told ESPN. "They'll know that there is no way that I could be part of this."

Te'o did say the ordeal weighed on him during Notre Dame's 42-14 loss to Alabama in the BCS title game, in which he played arguably one of the worst games of his career.
Te'o evidently told ESPN that a group of people related to Tuiasosopo showed up at the Notre Dame team hotel before the game and that Te'o knew they were there because they took photos in the lobby.
"It affected me," Te'o said. "When you're stuck in big game like that... people depend on you. You need to perform."

GJ - Manti and Notre Dame are sticking to the lie, which I believe was concocted to put the story to rest. Manti is the victim, even though he continued to lie faster than a plagiarist after admitting that the woman never existed.

One plagiarist said, "I didn't know it was doing something wrong." She also said, "I moved the paragraphs around and changed some words." So I said, "So you knew it was wrong."

Another plagiarist or three said, "I cited the source at the end." I answered, "Telling people where you stole it is not a defense. You did not write 99.9% of this essay, but you made it appear otherwise."

The ND athletic director, a lawyer, faked tears about Manti being such an innocent, trusting soul. I wept openly, slapping my leg and saying, "Just like WELS and the CLC."

Manti still insists he was an innocent victim, but has trouble explaining his continuing lies after admitting she never existed.

Now his Polynesian  male friend (didn't say boyfriend) and some mysterious others are the real criminals - but forgiven graciously by the Heisman runner-up.

Miss Invisible was handy for a ND football star who was not dating (but recently seen with a girl). The publicity machine at ND latched onto the girl and Team Manti had to get rid of her, so she was buried with Grandma. However, that only made things worse.

A insurance agent said, "It's best to be honest, because it's hard to remember all the lies previously told."

Miss Invisible was "the most beautiful girl I ever met" but he never met her.

His parents met Miss Invisible on her trips to Hawaii, and Manti was there, but he never met her. Nor did they.

The sports reporter suck-ups (read DPs) are gushing about Manti and the athletic director.

Team members have leaked that they did not believe the story early on.

I opened my Notre Dame alumni magazine. The only football photo inside was Manti embracing his parents on Senior Day, with more gush about Manti. The issue went out before ND went into reverse, flank speed.

The Manti Myth helped him in the Heisman race, because these votes are elaborately staged and lobbied. The same machine elevated the lie so high that everyone could see the falsehoods. As a fan, I did not know about Miss Invisible until her alleged death. Suddenly ND made that the story of the year.

Many other awards, including journalism, are staged in the same way. The more a fake story is leveraged with an award, the more likely it is to be exposed.

WELS has chosen to wage war for UOJ. They have the same problem. Standing behind the raving of John-Boy Buchholz will only make people read the documents.

"Haven't you and Manti pretended long enough?
When are you coming to bed?"

Popish Behavior - in WELS?

Adolph Hoenecke has left a new comment on your post "From One WELS District President - Intrepid Luther...":

Gee... the DPs wonder why they are accused of popish behavior.

Ben Wink Answers Prexy Peter, the WELS District President

Ben Wink has left a new comment on your post "From One WELS District President - Intrepid Luther...":

I am just stunned at the events that are pouring forth in the wake of everything that has happened starting with the circumstances with Pr. Rydecki. Right here in black and white we have a DP that somehow already has an informed opinion but admits that when it comes to Intrepid Lutherans he doesn't "read this yellow publication or any others of its ilk."

What better way to be informed than to not actually read what is being written and listen to what is being said. I remember while I was a student at MLC and there was uproar on campus regarding the then new Harry Potter series. Kids were reading it in droves, but can we actually use it in the classroom since it has obvious overtones of magic and such. Most of those who were vehemently opposed to the series were talking about the satanic magic and witchcraft abounding in the pages of Rowling's books. When these critics were asked where in the books they read about these problems, they would remark that they hadn't read any of the books and why would they waste their time reading such obvious devil-filled tripe.

So you have no argument. So you have no educated stance to build your platform on. (Also bear in mind most of these people were huge Lord of the Rings fans, which also has magic and witchcraft that the Lord apparently approves of. This is MLC after all, where debating skills are taught...at the pig roasts I guess. Certainly not on campus.)

When it comes to the Intrepid website's "ilk", I suppose he means Ichabod, the website no Lutheran should read. Frankly I know I started reading it just because I was intrigued with the critical arguments being posed towards names I recognized from my tiny Lutheran church body. I know more than once I would raise my eyebrows and go "wow, this Jackson guy wrote THAT?!" (And oddly enough finding myself agreeing more than once.)

Sure this site can get rather in-your-face but there have also been an amazing wealth of quotes from Scripture and sections from Luther and other Reformers as well as the Book of Concord. All are resources I can readily admit I should read more of and reading this site has been a terrific encouragement to follow up on my own personal studies of the Word, Luther, and the BOC.

Didn't Apostle Paul himself tell the Thessalonians to question teaching? To "prove all things; hold fast that which is good."? This is not being obstinate or rebellious; it is seeing what remains after being exposed to the revealing light of the Lord's Word. To ignore God's gift of discernment is foolish to say the least, damning to say the most.

To just blindly nod and say, "yes this must be true because this was told to me by a trained and certified synodical worker" is foolhardy and this is how doctrinal problems grow roots and are incredibly hard to weed out successfully.

Crack open that Bible and read it. Check up on what you're being taught. Examine Luther's works; after all, if one is claiming to be Lutheran, it might be a worthwhile endeavor to see what the man actually taught. You can move on to Chemnitz when you've gotten through Luther.

Oh and for those Martin Luther College students who are looking at my words, even though you shouldn't be reading this website, take that Book of Concord that admittedly looks great on your shelf, break the binding, and actually start reading it. Even grab a highlighter and start taking notes. (I know, I know, this isn't for a class you're overpaying for, but it is far more worthwhile than you can possibly imagine right now. Plus you are in New Ulm, MN. I can guarantee you have a lot of free time.)

GJ - DP Jon-Boy Buchholz imagines he is quite smart, but he has been shockingly stupid, even by WELS standards. Or - he has been far more scared than WELS wants to admit.

One outcome of the original discussion on the Intrepids would have been a careful multi-year study of the Lutheran Confessions. After all, WELS claims a quia subscription to the Book of Concord.

But Buchie chose duplicity, lying to the congregation, slandering a fellow pastor, and causing a national furor. The Holy Spirit uses evil men and false doctrine to test and approve what is sound doctrine.

Some pastors regret that they were not born with the Examen in one hand and the Bondage of the Will in the other. Turmoil and affliction make us look at the issues and our values all over again.
Luther himself said that our tough hides have to be salted and stretched by these things.

When I became a WELS pastor, I knew about the Book of Concord. However, it was the constant abuse of Lutheran doctrine and practice (in Columbus and the Michigan District) that made me study, compile, and re-study the Confessions, Luther, and Chemnitz.

I was asked to write an Ohio conference paper on the Confessions. When I did, the conference refused to discuss it at all. Months after I resigned from WELS, the conference tried to condemn the paper they previous refused to debate. One pastor got up and said. "When he was here you refused to discuss the paper. You gave up your chance." (Note to non-WELSians: this is part of their inbred culture. A paper is approved if it says nothing, received with thanks if it might raise an eyebrow, rejected if it gets close to the truth.)

SP Mark Schroeder contacts people and tells them not to read Ichabod, but he also claims never to read Ichabod. The DPs are the same. Deputy Doug tried to blame all his troubles on Ichabod, but his own pastors and laity were raising issues on their own. His response was to support the Glende excommunication of an attorney, the one who correctly nailed Glende as a lying plagiarist. Deputy Doug also re-assigned the circuit pastor who dared to deal with Glende's plagiarism. WELS' motto should be, "These colors do run."

People provide me with the WELS, Missouri, and ELS news. Most of it is WELS and Missouri, because they are the bulk of the 5% of Lutherans not in ELCA (where one splinter is four times the size of the Little Sect on the Prairie). As several have pointed out, Ichabod is a safe place to discuss matters. Each honest post from a reader is encouraging to others who have experienced the same.

Early on in WELS I wrote a little article in Christian News about Church Growth. Readers flooded me with thank-you letters. My first thought was, "I am going to leave WELS too. There is too big of a gap between the fake image and the reality."

Not for the last time - I provoke anger and laughter on purpose, to get people reading the Scriptures, the Confessions, Chemnitz, and other faithful Lutherans. Luther quotations being read - my goal.

In the last month, the top two posts are:

2332
903

The Apology of the Augsburg Confession was viewed 903 times in the last 30 days - dangerous for Missouri, even more so for WELS. They need to be re-educated at Fuller, Trinity Divinity, or Willow Creek.

Many posts that upset people the most are from others, still active within WELS or Missouri. The Party in the MLC gay video was not my find. The person who wrote could not bear to watch it. I watched it, posted the link to its source - Party in the Fire Island Pines, and watched people go nuts defending MLC. Now the participants are full of regret and want the video, which they published to YouTube for the world to watch, to be killed off.
