Werning was close to the Preus brothers and Herman Otten.

Werning is being reborn as Paul McCain. The difference - Werning kept most of his hissy fits private, instead of posting them all over the Net.

Yeah, like, how about the claim about some guys committing murder and the WELS covering it up? Is it me or is it somewhat ironic that Jackson writing in a tone of psychotic rage denies having psychotic rage- as he tells us that we should take his word for it that everything is verifiable? Your telling me that you heard some WELS pastor say "something, something" isn't really proof. This is just too easy!

GJ - WELS Pastor Roger Zehms (now at Jeske's congregation) said they all knew William Tabor was an adulterer when they took him into the Wisconsin Synod. Zehms told me about the day he baptized a baby in Tabor's congregation - "The spitting image of Tabor."

Pastor William Bischoff (Trinity, Bridgeton) had been LCR at one time, as Tabor had been. He knew about many people who wrote letters to WELS, telling them not to accept Tabor as a pastor. WELS did so anyway.

I had lunch with the editor of  The Northwestern Lutheran (Schaeffer). He told me and Mrs. I, "When the police asked for Tabor's file, it was empty!" That means, of course, that someone threw away all the incriminating evidence sent to the synod.

WELS claims that Tabor already had a call to Escanaba, Michigan when he and his Milwaukee mistress murdered Mrs. Tabor. So Tabor was able to pick up and move to a new congregation with a murder accusation over his head. When the chief of police in Milwaukee retired, he said his one big regret was not nailing Tabor for the crime. Tabor's mistress went to prison, but the WELS pastor did not. In fact, he served in the UP for one or two years. That shows what WELS thinks of its congregations. Need a murdering adulterer - take this guy.

WELS and Tabor did more damage. I will leave it at that.

DP Mueller said he did not tell congregations they were calling an adulterer because, "They won't take him!" The layman with me was appalled.

Al Just was convicted and sent to prison for murdering his wife, even though First VP Huebner's father took the stand to defend good ol' Al. Just married his children's baby-sitter while in the pokey, but she got wise and divorced him. One on my contacts saw Al helping with a WELS youth group.

WELS pastors in Phoenix still insist that Al Just did not murder his wife. I got an email from a Michigan Lutheran Seminary staffer saying, "My uncle is innocent!" The murderer was convicted, and he also confessed.

I was warned never to bring up the Just murder again, because "it is a sensitive topic."

I was also told to lay off of SP Schroeder for being such a poor leader. He has already proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I know that Minnesota requires all clergy to have a background check ever since the RCC priest-boy scandals. The LCMS doesn't send any unmarried vicars to Minnesota as a precaution--to minimize potential conflicts with the state. Otherwise, the state might become even more stringent.This means, especially if every denomination does the same, that many women from Minnesota who would have been pastors' wives won't be from now on. The Hochmuth scandal surely doesn't help church-state matters any.

It's a bit creepy. Jackson now has 41 official posts on Hochmuth. He claims that the WELS must have known. But why? My boss doesn't have any idea about my political or religious belief, much less what I look at on the internet. Why should the WELS hierarchy have known anything about Hochmuth?

GJ - Joel Hochmuth was previously counseled for his man-boy addiction. WELS has clammed up about who knew what and when. 

However, the local area network administrator at WELS Headquarters, The Love Shack, where 300+ man-boy pictures and videos were found, definitely had access to computers used by Hochmuth for viewing. Use of the computers for viewing would have a record. There are various ways to supervise and protect a computer network against compromise, abuse, and spamming. Why has no one been fired?

The think (sic) that has really bothered me about his reporting of this story on his blog is the glee he has in telling the tale. To him, apparently, this is is not a tragic story involving real people and real sins; this is something to celebrate because it "confirms" his point about the WELS. There is no Christian concern for those involved. There is not even any human concern. There is only joy and revelry that happened so that he can have some vehicle to make his point about UOJ. In the words of Buzz Lightyear, he is a sad, strange, little man and he has my pity.

Jackson just did another weird diatribe about the make-believe crimes of the WELS. Let's say that half to stuff he says isn't just made up (I've searched for confirmation of a lot of his claims, and it never seems to check out). Isn't human nature always the same across the ages? Isn't the Church always infected with sin?

The title of the blog is telling "the glory has departed." What glory? The "good old days" were never around. People in the old days just covered things up better! Jackson endlessly complains about human nature being human nature. How can anyone who believes in the doctrine of original sin be surprised by human wickedness. All you can do is try to restrain the effects of sin- something it seems to me the WELS has done in this case.

Lastly, what's this about?:

"WELS still denies the fact that two men murdered their wives."

I can't find any press release denying this (hence they never officially have denied this, it appears)- neither can I find any news stories on the internet that talks about this.

Whenever he's challenged, he says he has his "sources"- sorry if I'm a little skeptical! Am I supposed to just take his word for it?

Your ignorance of the Bible and Lutheran doctrine is appalling. The glory is the peculiar glory of the Means of Grace. Ichabod is a Biblical term, not one based on nostalgia about one particular sect.

Psychotic rage is a good description of Tim Glende and Company. He posted captioned photos of WELS members eating cat feces from a toilet, and he named those people. Several of us saved those photos for evidence. That blog disappeared, but nothing really vanishes from the Net.

Books created through Bethany Lutheran Church have gone all over the world, hundreds of them given away. NPH has a friendly relationship with me. I review NPH books and the official WELS publishing house sells Catholic, Lutheran, Protestant.

We are all waiting to see what Glende and Ski have contributed, not including hundreds of sermons they have stolen--without credit--from Craig Groeschel.

Covering up and trivializing this heinous crime is the clearest possible proof of the cruelty, self-centeredness, and blindness of WELS.

It sort of makes one wonder if this will become the Watergate of the WELS. It was not the break-in that was the big crime in the Watergate Scandal. It was the cover-up which followed that was the bigger crime. In a play of words, maybe this will become the Waterloo of the WELS, but I doubt it.

GJ - The financial cost will be great. Shortly after some of the scandals, the insurance companies insisted on clearing employees of sexual crime records before they would cover the congregations in abuse cases. I heard that DP Robert Mueller, who considered himself above the law and immune to the Ten Commandments, was resentful about the burden imposed on him.

Why should an insurance company charge a low premium in good faith when the District President, in bad faith, moves around a sex offender? The sex offenders often re-offend, as Hochmuth did, and UOJ makes matters worse.

A $20,000 bond has been ordered for a Lutheran church leader charged with possessing hundreds of images of child pornography. 52-year-old Joel Hochmuth is due back in Waukesha County Circuit Court December 16th. A judge will decide whether there’s enough evidence to put him on trial for three felony count of child porn possession. Hochmuth is the communications director for the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. According to prosecutors, he admitted being addicted to watching porn videos of young males – and after his wife caught him doing it, the couple went to get counseling. Authorities said they seized several hundred images from his home computer, plus 310 photos and 38 videos from his office computer. Synod president Mark Schroeder says the church is “shocked and devastated” by Hochmuth’s arrest. He’s being suspended, and the church is reviewing his employment status.

SP Schroeder's latest venture in protecting the WELS brand was to claim the MLC gay video was done deliberately to mock homosexuality. He demanded and got an apology from Herman Otten, ever anxious to please all synod officials. Previously, the MLC boys claimed they did not know they were plagiarizing--frame by frame--a popular video filmed at Fire Island. They withdrew the video from YouTube, then had it reposted again twice - on YouTube and Facebook.

WELS has spent decades normalizing perverse behavior, such as having the freshmen at NWC pretend to have anal intercourse with the Sprinter statue (now at MLC). That was part of their hazing ritual. Scandals with church workers and children have been covered up, time after time.

This crime happened on synod property. The ovine members and pastors will let it go away, like all the other crimes of the past. WELS still denies the fact that two men murdered their wives. But the more they praise themselves for "how they handled it," the worse it will get. Massive resignations or firings normally follow this kind of debacle. Covering up leads to worse crimes, as recent history has shown.

The fact that in rejecting Justification by Faith Alone Neuhaus cursed Christ didn't keep McCain from saying, "I felt Richard John brought to the Romanism he embraced a hearty and full measure of the joyful Gospel rediscovery of Martin Luther, for which I am grateful."

Really?! A full measure of the Gospel? RCC's official doctrine states that if anyone thinks they are justified by faith in Christ alone they are damned to Hell. If anyone doesn't accept the Pope as Christ on earth they are damned to Hell. That's the RCC gospel.

GJ - I corresponded with Neuhaus for a number of years and met him at the Ad Fontes conference, just before he became a priest. LCA President Crumley was at the conference, too, and seemed to be trying to argue Neuhaus out of the decision (my interpretation - I didn't eavesdrop).

After Neuhaus made his change public, I wrote him a letter suggesting he work his way into the papacy, study the issues, and announce to the world, infallibly, that Luther had been right all along. He demurred.

He sinuflected to Rome, preparing many of his friends to follow after him - and they did.

I see the same process going on today in the LCMS. Robert Preus wrote Justification and Rome to halt the spread of Romanism at Concordia Seminary, Ft. Wayne.

The Neuhaus funeral is noteworth. They offered a Mass for his soul, which means they were doing a good work to reduce his time (and theirs!) in Purgatory. I doubt whether an apostate could have a more significant symbol of his betrayal of the Gospel - a conservative Lutheran pastor buried as a Catholic priest, with a Mass offered for his soul suffering in Purgatory.
