"Oren Paris paid Shelton's consulting company $267,000 out of college money from 2013 to 2015 without notifying his college's board until October 2015, according to the indictment. Shelton is described in court documents as a mutual friend of Paris and Woods.

Neal received $18,000 for his part in obtaining grants for the college and another $20,000 for obtaining a grant to another nonprofit group, according to his plea.

Ecclesia received $550,000 in improvement grants with the support of Woods, Neal or both. All the grants were issued from 2013 through 2014. Ecclesia received a total of $717,500 in improvement fund grants in 2013 through 2014."

GJ - It is worth noting that none of this money showed up as improvements on the campus. Apparently it went toward even more land (50 acres) being bought for a tiny college that already owned 200 acres.

The Paris family paid itself royally while the staff and instructors received a pittance. Oren Paris III insisted on a $100,000 salary when he became president. Even his mother was on the payroll.

The strangest part of this deal was Oren suddenly having an "executive assistant," part of the deal with the Arkansas politicians. She received around $50,000 a year, plus a cash gift.

"Other female inmates have previously told investigators that Dewitt had a schedule of sex with one female prisoner Sunday, another Monday, and then another Wednesday.

Dewitt followed and executed the teachings of Bill Gothard, an nationally known evangelical minister from Illinois who believes that "sex is a male birthright because males are the head of the household and in a natural position of authority," according to the lawsuit.

The former chaplain, who had a close relationship with Gothard, indoctrinated the program's female participants into "what was essentially a cult, and to brainwash them in order to lessen their resistance to his improper sexual advances," the lawsuit said."

St. John's Doctrinal Gospel

How easily we pass by the treasures of the Gospel and take them for granted. Our minds are so perverse, unaided by the Holy Spirit, that we can read a passage and imagine it says the opposite.

The Greek class finished Chapter 16 of John, a reminder of how potent the Word of God is, when read phrase by phrase. We just sent three copies of this Gospel - in Spanish - to Mercy Hospital because the medical staff wants to learn Spanish to do their work better. They could easily have the same experience in Spanish, German, or Russian.

Our neighborhood girl has the same Gospel, so she can learn Spanish better.

Every week I check over meanings with the parsing link and Lenski, sometimes with Strong's collection of the same words. We get used to English phrasing so the raw Greek makes it vivid, such as Jesus saying to His disciples - They will kill you and thinking they are presenting an offering to God.

Both parts of that warning are missing in the script of seminary recruiters. After all, they want more students to pay the bills, not fewer.

The antagonism of the New Pharisees - the synod leaders - is explained simply. "They do not know the Father or Me." People are used to thinking that the district presidents know something and do what is best for their sect and a particular congregation. They forget that those same men got there by sandbagging their opposition. All these robed felons have one thing in common - their assumption of Pharisaical piety can dazzle the majority of people. Thus it was in Jesus' time - the Pharisees were honored for their obedience to Moses, but that left an enormous cavity in societal values. Jesus changed that by saying, in effect, "Forgiveness and salvation do not come through the perfection in Moses' Law but through faith in Me, Whom God sent."
