I am shocked, too. Shocked that WELS does get rid of wayward, despotic, and non-performing DPs. I fail to see their value-added. It certainly is not their faithfulness, acumen, and leadership abilities.
I hope WELS DP's don't become like LCMS DP's. I have often compared modern Missouri DP's to Commissars managing Albanian tractor plants. If the numbers go up (production increases) they consider themselves successful, If numbers go down they are considered a failure. All the other "stuff" like keeping an eye on doctrine and mentoring young pastors goes by the wayside.
