The 77th General Convention of The Episcopal Church passed an historic resolution in Indianapolis, B021, recognizing that when the relationship between bishops and dioceses is severely strained, sometimes to the breaking point, there is a way out that includes getting rid of the diocesan bishop. Behind the scenes public pressure was put on him to make a public statement.
The Standing Committee of the Diocese of Pennsylvania apparently used the new canon to finally get rid of Bennison without using any of the Title IV disciplinary canons."
