Thou Hast Played the Role of the Harlot

The irrelevant is relevant at the end of life and in the midst of crisis. Word and Sacrament by Norma Boeckler.

75] And since our election to eternal life is founded not upon our godliness or virtue, but alone upon the merit of Christ and the gracious will of His Father, who cannot deny Himself, because He is unchangeable in will and essence, therefore, when His children depart from obedience and stumble, He has them called again to repentance through the Word, and the Holy Ghost wishes thereby to be efficacious in them for conversion; and when they turn to Him again in true repentance by a right faith, He will always manifest the old paternal heart to all those who tremble at His Word and from their heart turn again to Him, as it is written, Jer. 3:1: If a man put away his wife, and she go from him and become another man's, shall he return unto her again? Shall not that land be greatly polluted? But thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to Me, saith the Lord.

FC, Election, Book of Concord

Every Christian denomination claims to be Gospel-centered, but the non-Lutheran confessions of faith reject the efficacy of the Word. The Book of Concord is consistent with Luther in making the efficacy of the Word the foundation for all statements about the Gospel.

The Church of Rome offers herself as the objective proof of salvation, all denominations defective without the glory of the Antichrist. A Roman Catholic can be confident of landing in Purgatory for thousands of years of torture...perhaps. Heaven awaits but a heavy price must be paid by man.

Deformed theology talks about the Scriptures and the Gospel, but they imagine both are dead without man's improvement upon them. As Luther observed, they talk about Christ but destroy the bridge to Christ, the Biblical Means of Grace.

Lutheran unionists want to ignore the chasm between orthodox Lutheran doctrine and heterodoxy, because ecumaniacs hate their own confession of faith.

For three decades, the Lutheran unionists have promoted fear to encourage their brothers to abandon the faith.

"Doom has come upon us all. Studies have shown - We are going to lose all our young people, so we have to have a modern hymnal with feminist lyrics and creeds." WELS lost their youth anyway, by being faux-mod to the point of hysterical irrelevance.

"Everyone hates those Germanic funeral dirges. We need something snappy to attract the young and unchurched Joe. Nevermind granny. We will lose a few to gain a kingdom." Exit Dorothy Sonntag for ELCA - guess that did not work.

"I think we can learn a few practical tips from those people. Look at how much they have grown while we are dying." C. Peter Wagner, the Valleskey Professor of Church Growth at Fuller Seminary, admitted - "Church growth principles do not work." Normally I ignore Pentecostals, but Wagner is right about this. Fuller has hollowed out the Evangelicals and Pentecostals while corrupting the Lutherans - with no gains in numbers and huge losses in actual Christian influence.

Long ago, the Little Sect on the Prairie stood up to Missouri's backsliding, but they could not muster enough faith-based courage to knock the skin off a pudding when WELS stuffed Church Growth into everything they did. Gaylin Schmeling told the ELS convention that they should break with WELS if Wayne Mueller became Synod President. Orvick scowled, as he should have. Wayne Mueller was Synod President, in everything but name.

The unthinkable has become the norm in the old Synodical Conference. Women teach men. Women usurp authority over men, a foretaste of women's ordination - just around the coroner. Open communion is endorsed and promoted. The unionistic, Deformed NIV is quoted without blushing. The Gospel-centered liturgy is left hanging on a hook in the coat closet, to be used only under duress.

As one Shrinker said, "I will use the liturgy once a month, but I will go outside and puke afterwards." The poor little puker was let go, but Paul Kelm counseled him back into the good graces of Holy Mother WELS.

Ski and Bishop Katie enjoy monthly trips to Enthusiasm Conferences, noting with glee how many other WELS workers are there. Can anyone imagine a Fox Valley pastor announcing monthly trips to Bella Vista, blogging about the great worship experience here, and not having the Doctrinal Pussycat show his claws at last? Yet those two are simply a node of the cancerous tumor.

District VP Patterson organized a trip to the Exponential Conference, cut salaries to hire Gurgle, and wants to be Synod President! Easter egg hunts will expand rapidly when Kudu Don takes office.

Witte was a founder of Church and Change. After getting a DMin from Gordon Conwell, writing a windy if not flatulent paper on WELS (hardly a dissertation), Witte accepted a call to the Asian Mission Board. Who says WELS has no discipline? Maybe the calling board knows Witte hates Asian food.

I can imagine Kelm going next to Witte's parish, because no one else is taking the call.

The loud, obvious Shrinkers are not the real leaders. Notice how Huebner has played the role of traditional worship leader while participating in the Gang of Three, the traveling Pasadena Pestilence tour: Kelm, Olson, Huebner. They studied at Fuller together, to be "church consultants."

The stealthy Shrinkers are the real leaders. Like Jungkuntz of old, they let their pals go out on the limb and take the hits. "Way to go, you really told them. You have guts. Keep it up." The loud and proud Shrinkers are weather-vanes, who ultimately point to the source of their energy. Mequon is a Kelm-enabler. Jeske is a Ski-enabler. Etc.

The CGM in WELS is proof positive that the Lord knows best -- not overreaching Fullerites and their offensive nonsense.

Cowed by their false teachers, the Shrinkers shun and avoid doing the work of the Lord.

Don Patterson wants to be Synod President! He does not have the support of his own congregation. This talk about Patterson becomming the next DP better be fiction. Kudo Don is destined for the place where all false prophets and teachers belong. If he thinks Austin is too hot, then he should repent and change his ways. Could someone please explain to me why Patterson was not disciplined for attending Exponential? Oh yes, the district popes can see no wrong. This is all done, or rather not done, for the sake of unity.

Here are a few excerpts from The Theology Of The Cross. Please refer to pages 202-203 in Prof. Deutchlander's book. Those on such pathways may remember Jesus, but he has ceased to be the priority. What is on those side roads that is so appealing? The professor explains that this is self centered, rather than Christ centered. If I don't get this mission to grow, everybody will blame me when it fails or closes. I must be doing something wrong or I would be more successful. Maybe if I am not strict in doctrine and practice, maybe if I give a little here and a little there, I will grow this church faster; we can get around to the "tough stuff" later when they are more mature and like me well enough to listen to it. Yes, maybe if I don't ruffle too many feathers, the officials of the district and the synod will see what a fine pastor I am, and I will finally get a call to a place that will really appreciate me. Oh, how clever the devil is! As he plants these weeds in the pastor's soul, he throws dust in his eyes, so that our young curate still imagines that his heart is pure and his goals are noble. (end of excerpts)

I can tell you what is so appealling down the side roads. Money! I was reading these pages last night , and I thought, "This is the hallmark of the CG, Shrinkers, and apostasy infesting our synod. These guys are carrying the cross of glory not the
Cross of Jesus. The whole description fits them to a "T".
You keep telling it like is Pastor GJ. I found your blog many months ago. You have endorsed Deutschlander's book. My pastor loaned me his copy. SP Schroeder is kicking down the apostates and there crosses of glory.

From about 50 years of WELS: What is the Gospel? Why are so many still confused?

Anonymous said...

You are very correct. It is the far more numerous stealth shrinkes we have to worry about. These are the ones who claim to be confessional and liturgical, but are just as bad as Kelm and his ilk. Laymen need to call these people out, correct them, and expose them, because clearly the DPs are never going to do their jobs.

What are pastors doing when they:
1. Conceal their affiliation with WELS,
2. Operate in stealth mode with their cronies,
3. Shun Luther, and
4. Reject the efficacy of the Word?

They LIE for a LIVING.

Church Lady,

You seem to think you know Pastor Patterson. How, precisely, is he "a false prophet and teacher"?

And, if I'm not mistaken, the vast congregation absolutely loves him.

Anonymous said...

JR,

So, popularity makes one a true teacher and preacher of God's Word? If that is really true, then you must think that Joel Osteen is the purest of the pure! The false teachers are popular precisely because they appeal to the things that man desires (entertainment for example) and not the one thing man needs--the saving power of God's Word.

If the congregation loves Patterson, they are deluded and need a heavy dose of Law. Does not the Bible tell us, again and again, the the false teachers will be beloved by the masses?

Patterson and the CG crowd are false teachers for exactly the root reason that Dr. Jackson has identified: they do not trust the Gospel to do its work and ultimately deny the efficacy of the Word. They rely on the works of men rather than the work of God and his Holy Word. They define success in earthly rather than Scriptural terms. Worse, they cloak themselves in the name of Luther while secretly working against the core of what he spent a lifetime fighting for. They must be exposed, corrected, and ultimately driven from the Evangelical Lutheran church if they refuse to accept correction.

I thank God for Dr. Jackson and all those who stand on the side of the Word.

2 Thessalonians 2:3 (KJV): Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.

1 Timothy 4:1-5 (KJV): Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: 5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

JR, in my opinion those faithful to Christ, Pastors or laymen, will lead people to Christ in His Word and Sacraments. Those faithful to Christ will contend against the doctrine of devils and defend and promote only Christ's doctrine. A Lutheran will also defend and promote the Lutheran Confessions as the 100% correct exposition of Holy Scripture and Christian doctrine.

Pastor Patterson has lead Pastors and laymen to Baptist false teachers to be taught Baptist, Methodist and Pentecostal false doctrines in order to grow their congregations and under the false claim of "reaching the lost for Christ". He is a wolf and a hireling as can be seen by his outward and very public actions. He has embraced the New Age Emergent Church Growth methods and practices which at their core reject the efficacy of the Word alone and the work of the Holy Spirit.

The fact that he and others in the WELS Pastorate who haven't been publicly reprimanded and their public actions denounced and condemned in order to teach and promote purity of doctrine and practice to the WELS members is indicative of the administrations support for such activity, disdain for pure doctrine and indifference to the spiritual wellfare of the individual members.

2 Peter 2:1-3, "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not."

Trust Church Lady shall not mind another Lutheran lady responding to J R, who questioned you concerning Pastor Patterson:

"How, precisely, is he a false prophet and teacher" ?

Dear JR, Yours is a question Scripture nowhere requires Christians (whether male or female) to have to publicly respond to .....

Nor should Church Lady be made feel falsely "guilty" because she does not follow your will, that is, answering a question you appear to be imposing upon her as if it was utter neccessity she obey !

No, the joy of faithful believers is simply to seek to obey the teaching of God, and I would think Church Lady knows from the Word, that for our own eternal good, our part, is rather to hear and follow instead, what Christ teaches on this matter, rather than respond to what you "so sweetly" command.

The Good Shepherd says:
KJV MATTHEW 7:15 BEWARE OF FALSE PROPHETS, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Next, Jesus tells us in the following verse/s MATTHEW 7: 16 - 20 PRECISELY HOW WE ARE TO RECOGNIZE THEM.. and that is by their FRUITS.

You go on to say : "And if I'm not mistaken the vast congregation absolutely loves him."

Dear JR, A "vast congregation absolutely loving" Pastor Patterson, reveals only how sad it is that false prophets can so easily deceive a vast multitude with their guile and false promises that lethally deliver mere thorns instead of grapes, and thistles instead of figs.

Elsewhere Jesus teaches us "The gate is narrow that leads to life", and wide isthe gate that leads to destruction..

In the MATTHEW 7 passage,Verse 21 our Lord tells us: 21 "Not everyone that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name ? and in thy name have cast out devils ? and in thy name done many wonderful works ? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never you :depart from me ye that work iniquity.

24 Therefore whosover heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man. which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not; for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And everyone that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: 29 For he taught them as one having authority......

Dear JR, Please, O Please be be as the wise man in Verse 24; and do not be as the foolish man in Verse 26.

Another thing. In truth, JR, your question to Church Lady, has been many times over supplied by Pastor Jackson (and other men), in many many places on Ichabod. Suggest you perhaps do a lot more reading back on this and other Ichabod articles....if you do sincerely wish an explicit reply to your question re Paterson.

But in any case, direct your questions to the men, and leave orthodox Lutheran ladies alone, please. Thankyou.

Sincerely in Christ,
Another Anonymous Lutheran lady.

In response to JR,
Lets just say that I reside in the same state as said pastor. Somebody (not the tooth fairy) is flooding Pastor GJ with a wealth of information. It then gets listed on the blog. I suggest going back and checking all posts and comments concerning Patterson.
Never said he didn't have a following. So no, JR, you are not mistaken.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, that's a good question right there. Obviously the DP is not interested in getting to the bottom of it and doling out any repremands or punishment of any kind. So following the chain of command, why hasn't this now fallen on the SP Schroeder to disapline Pr. Patterson for his contribution to the decline of the WELS and then to also remove the DP for not doing his job? Why should this not be made an example of for the rest of the those c&c folks who want to further the influx of false doctrine into our synod? At some point it's got to fall on somebody's shoulders to at least point out the error.
In response to JR,
This is WELS church lady again. I answered your comment last night. These other comments were not even published, and so I did not get to read those until now. Everyone has been asking the same question over and over. Where is the discipline? Maybe our friend JR(and JR is pro-ichabod by the way)is asking " Hey , what else is that network been doing other than whats already been noted"? I have some information that I will be seending Pastor GJ via mail. Some things are too sensitive even for this blog. Just immagine the stuff that GJ(and a shrinking violet he ain't) has to keep in confidence.
Perhaps it is you, yourself, along with a couple of other men of the same mind, who, together, could plan an Open Letter to the synod President.... plainly, but respectfully, admonishing him that it is way past time since he ought already have administered doctrinal discipline to Paterson...and that you laymen are now calling upon him to do so; for your own conscience's sake, and for the sake of the injury to fellow brethren inthe synod at large, through loss of the pure preaching of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ as set forth in the Book of Concord.
There's loads of material here on Ichabod for that.
Hopefully you will be "heard",and plainly informed of the President's intention to act accordingly.
If not, he may himself have need of admonishing a second time... (TITUS 3:10 - 11)
-----
"Paul commands that godless teachers should be avoided and execrated as cursed, GALATIONS 1:8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. : TITUS 3:10 And 2 CORINTHIANS 6:14 he says: Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what communion hath light with darkness ?"
