Also a pioneer in Higher Criticism. They net result of which is about the same as church growthism and felt needs ministry. Convince them to believe by hook and crook and do not rely on the Holy Spirit to do his work thru the Word and you simply have two parallel paths going to the same place. Higher Criticim and CGM CC are the same animal at heart.
Why? What was the purpose of Higher Criticism? HC- "We have to get the meaning behind the Scriture to the people so that they will believe it." CGM- "We need to get people into the Church by seeming relevant to them or they will not believe or trust in Christ."

I meant Johann Semler not Spener. I'm sure they held much in common though.
