The UOJ Enthusiasts have taken their cue from this literary figure: "When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less."
Hello! I read the comments on LP's Extra Nos blog. There were too many fancy learned gentlemen in the mile long conversation, so the church lady would have only been in the way. Instead, I went theologian diving to find Johannes Andreas Quenstedt and Johannes Brenz.(Or better yet "Brett Johannes Brenz Meyer")
Quenstedt(1617-1688) was the nephew of Johann Gerhard. Quenstedt's teacher was Johann Friedrich Konig.(TOO MANY JOHNS!) The quick Google searches only gave me his bio information and no quotes on his theology. He attended Helmstedt and Whittenberg. I will do a better search and provide some statements.
Now let me tell you how I found Brenz! I found a link for Studium Excitare. It contains theological issues, articles, and history provided by MLC students. Brenz wrote a piece titled, "Where Faith Comes From." It has been translated to English. He said many times that faith only comes from hearing the Gospel. You cannot have faith without the means and tools. To be saved you must be repentent. For example, the devil knows who Jesus is but he is not saved. This essay shows where UOJ is wrong. Refer to www.studiumexcitare.com and issuues #9. It's just like Brett says it! I will provide another comment with some statements.

Church Lady,
Thank you for this link.

Pr. Greg,
I do not know why people do not appreciate your humor.
If we all stop taking things seriously for a bit, we can all get a laugh.
LPC
LP, the problem is that the targets do get my sense of humor.
