There's one thing that I think that escaped this insider’s report. It's SP Harrison's shovel ready mustache. Wouldn't you agree that it has the dimension width and heft of a country snow plow to clear out all the false doctrine and subsequent untoward practice in LCMS? That mustache action in and of itself, should be able to cut and plow through all that synodical "blizzard of sin."

SP Harrison says that the LCMS is in danger of SMPing its residential M. Div. program to death. In just a few years 140 SMP students have completed education at Concordia St. Louis. The LCMS has to protect the core M. Div. residential program for the LCMS to thrive, he says. For his exact words, view here:

Greek Orthodox Church in Greece has to implement SMP program, and also took its own KFUO radio off the air--maybe selling it. Notice how it took dire circumstances to get to this point for the Greeks, but the LCMS capitulates even without a full-blown debt crisis. It's obvious that the seminary could have been fully funded and minted enough M Divs (and without huge student loan debts) if Kieschnick and Barry had made the 70 personnel cuts that SP Harrison belated made, among other cuts. But Kieschnick and Barry were glad to screw over students rather than reduce their bloated staffs:
Crisis proves a curse for Greece's Orthodox Church

To cover the shortage of priests, some bishops are permitting laymen to take services. These volunteers receive no state wages and don't wear the characteristic vestments.
For instance, a retired army officer recently started holding mass at Avantas, a village close to the eastern border with Turkey, said Father Irinaios. "Priests in small villages retire or pass away and there is nobody to replace them," he said. "We are going to have a huge problem."
In February, the church briefly took its 23-year-old, cash-strapped radio station off the air, depriving listeners of the daily mix of sermons and cultural programs.

Cutting Down on the Cost of Seminary Education: Is This the Next Step?:

Re: the gravestone frame in the comic above:
The article (link at end of comment) discusses the causes of the LCMS's decline in membership, and notes that from 1971 to the present, the LCMS has shrunk by half a percent per year. However, I'd like to note that the decline was slower until the last decade when it accelerated under Kieschnick, and became a whole percent loss per year, or at least that's what was widely reported. Also, this article says that 1971 was the tail end of the Baby Boom, but statisticians put the end at 1964. However, as far as the churched go, perhaps there was a lag time and the baby boom years may have ended in 1971. One would have to look at the church annuals to find the historical baptism and confirmation statistics for clarification:

Harrison will be able to visit a lot of LCMS students in debtors prison now:
Pastors deemed not to qualify for public service student loan forgiveness program

Public Service Loan Forgiveness
Public Service Loan Forgiveness forgives federal student loan debt after 10 years or 120 qualifying payments for people working in certain public service jobs. To qualify for forgiveness, a borrower must make the right type of payments (Income-Based Repayment, Income-Contingent Repayment, or a 10-year standard payment) on the right type of loan (federal Direct Loan) while working in the right type of job (government, nonprofit, etc.). www.IBRinfo.org, is a leading source of consumer information about the programs.
Here's another hard rock icon that the LCMS might want to recruit into the SMP program, since their recruit from MegaDeath will graduate from St. Louis's SMP course sometime soon. Randy Blythe is the frontman for the band Lamb of God, and he's been arrested twice now over the same incident. He pushed a lad off the stage who then hit his head on the ground, leading to his death. Manslaughter is just a venial sin that doesn't preclude a person from the ministry, right? Maybe SP Harrison can pay off his attorneys using Mercy Journey money. Just sayin':

Half of LCMS membership is located in small rural towns or farms, according to SP Harrison. The comic mentions farmers and a rural missions workshop. See about minute 1 in this video:
