Webber Abandons Critical Thinking and the English Language To Bail Out UOJ.
Boycott the Emmaus Conference

  • David Jay Webber The gospel is true before it is believed, precisely so that it can be believed. The gospel offers to the individual, for the salvation of the individual, the salvation that Jesus has already established for all people, in and through his life, death, and resurrection for all people.

  • Jami Thomas Totally agree. IN Jesus. Faith connects us to Jesus. "The World" is not/"all people" are not "in Christ." Believers are "in Christ."
  • David Jay Webber Is the gospel true for everyone, or is it true only for those who are in Jesus by faith? St. John teaches in his 1st Epistle that Jesus is the propitiation for the sins of the world. Is this true, even before the church announces this to the world?

The author of this brilliant quotation was a mathematics professor and an expert in logic.
Jack Kilcrease, as Humpty, teaches UOJ at a Roman Catholic convent school
and also where Webber is getting his ecumenical STM degree.

GJ -

Bad, destructive, and wrong ideas usually float on the top of logical fallacies. ELS Pastor Jay Webber's last efforts before the dreaded Emmaus Conference do not disappoint.

UO Jay - "The gospel is true before it is believed, precisely so that it can be believed."

Aha, but what is the meaning of this word "gospel"? According to Webber and Buchholz, it means "universal forgiveness and salvation - without faith." The Webber statement is just another repetition of - "I cannot believe it unless I know it is already true." That may have first come from Ed Preuss, but I am not sure. Thiese UOJ people parrot each other so much that finding the first eructation is as difficult as discovering the origin of the Nile River.

The Gospel is the Atonement - the preaching of Christ crucified for the sins of the world. Romans 10 connects that proclamation to Isaiah 53, which is the central Old Testament Gospel chapter.

Romans 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
The righteousness of faith (Romans 10:6), which is an article in the Formula of Concord, is the alternative to the righteousness of works. When the UOJistas are teaching righteousness without faith, they are injecting their own version of the righteousness of works while disposing of the righteousness of faith.
When Walther and JP Meyer say, "You have to make a decision for UOJ," they are trying the rescue the word faith, but in a dishonest, conniving, cowardly way.
U O Jay - "The gospel offers to the individual, for the salvation of the individual, the salvation that Jesus has already established for all people, in and through his life, death, and resurrection for all people."

No Universalist or ELCA theologian would argue with Jay. This last stage of doctrinal decay is the natural result of Pietism. The UOJ rubric above is a variation on the Calvinist Woods' summary of the Pietist Knappe's theology, as shown below.

U O Jay - "Is the gospel true for everyone, or is it true only for those who are in Jesus by faith? St. John teaches in his 1st Epistle that Jesus is the propitiation for the sins of the world. Is this true, even before the church announces this to the world?"

This logical fallacy is so old that the Greeks identified it. The question is a false dilemma. The speaker asks people to choose between his bromide and something unpleasant, so everyone is manipulated into saying. "We want the bromide. Give us the bromide!"

Of course the Gospel is true, but the Gospel never teaches that a single soul is forgiven without faith. Never. The Gospel of John and the First Epistle teaches clearly that we receive forgiveness and salvation through faith in Christ.

What is the foundational sin, in the words of Jesus? "The Holy Spirit will convict the world of sin, because they do not believe on Me."

Rejection of faith, railing against faith as a "work" - these horrid byproducts of rancid Pietism have led to the ELS-WELS scandlals of embezzlement, sex with minors, homosexual file swapping, alcoholism, and much more. The outrages are now so great that they cannot be covered up and reach the national press and get repeated in homosexual blogs (much to the amusement of their authors). No repentance follows. No apologies. If a married pastor hits on a young single staffer, it is her fault and she is thrown under the bus. If ELCA covets a property, and WELS wants to get even with a pastor, they connive to steal the church and its endowment.

Webber, WELS, and the ELS lived off the adultery of Marvin Schwan, before and after the saint's death. Shep joked about it to me on the phone, so I hardly think Webber was unaware. Jay was also happy to take money from Floyd Stolzenburg's Masonic Church Growth parish, and they consider Roger Kovaciny to be their missionary to the drunken heathen Commies in the Ukraine. Floyd is a good example of UOJ, Church Growth, and scandal expertly interwoven. How delicious that the Marvin Schwan Foundation gave matching money to Floyd's church to give to the Schwan Lutheran experience in Russia.

1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. KJV

The Bible teaches consistently that Christ died for the sins of the world. The rationalistic afterbirth of Pietism says, "If He died for the sins of the world, then the entire world is forgiven, without faith. They only need to be told that truth."

Indeed, that is exactly what WELS and the ELS have been braying the last few decades. So why is everyone either snoring, eating popcorn in church, or leaving in droves before another child is raped or a woman seduced by a "conservative" church worker?

I highly recommend a careful study of Romans 4, without any commentaries, using a good translation - not the New NIV. The KJV is the most precise and modern style KJVs are pretty good.

Secondly, read Luther's Commentary on Galatians, which destroys any defection from justification by faith.

Note that the ELS, WELS, and LCMS
excuse and hide their criminal offenses,
but they slander anyone who questions them.
