Hebrews - Daily Verses. Chapter Five. "For Every One That Useth Milk Is Unskilful in the Word of Righteousness: For He Is a Babe."

KJV Hebrews 5

1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:

2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.

3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.

4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.

6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Explanation

Like many difficult passages, this one seems almost opaque at first, but soon resolves into the high place of Jesus Christ the high priest but also the sacrificial lamb.

The typical priest of the old order sacrificed for the sins of the people but also for himself, because earthly priests are also sinful.

Jesus is the great high priest, after the supreme order of Melchisedec, but different in being appointed by God the Father.

5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.

6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

The priests of today, whether they are Roman, Byzantine, or quasi-Lutheran, are samples of the Old Testament, glorying in their robes and incense, silver and gold vessels, Almy-approved improvements.

The entire Bible emphasizes the Savior as the ultimate priest and sacrificial lamb, whether in Abraham's obedience as a father and his only son (Genesis 22) or the Suffering Servant in Isaiah 53.

Verses 12 and 13 remind the reader to know the Oracles of God, the absolute truths of the Scriptures. They must begin in small steps - milk - and build up to the Word of Righteousness, which the Objective Faithless Justification mob cannot handle after all these years.

Daily Luther Sermon Quote - "Hereby Christ Would Have Christians Aroused And Strengthened in Faith, And Protected Against Unbelief With Its Harmful Fruits..."

Complete Sermon Here -> FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY.

SECOND SERMON: LUKE 5:1-11.

9. Hereby Christ would have Christians aroused and strengthened in faith, and protected against unbelief with its harmful fruits, such fruits, especially, as covetousness, and anxious cares for the body and the present life. These cling to man by nature like an inborn plague which, together with the lusts of unbelief, moves and rages against the Spirit, as St. Paul teaches in Galatians 5:17. Moreover, the devil seeks to hinder faith by his temptations and suggestions to mistrust and doubt God. This, too, the world does by its hatred, envy and persecution of the righteous, whose goods and honor and life it is after, and whom it would use as mats for its feet. On the other hand (I say), we here perceive both the power and advantage of the faith which holds fast to Christ’s Word and ventures thereon, as Peter does, saying: “Although we have toiled all night and taken nothing, yet at thy word I will let down the nets.” It is this faith that so enlarges the draught of fishes as to fill the two boats; for without this the nets would not have been let down, nor would any fish have been caught.

10. Scripture, however, everywhere shows the harm that is done by the avarice and anxieties of unbelief. For unbelief can by no means obtain anything from God that would benefit, comfort or bless it, but so deprives itself of the divine benediction that it can have no satisfaction or joy in the temporal goods it desires, and can never possess a good and peaceful conscience. Hence it is that Christ, in Matthew 13:22, speaks of all anxiety, with regard to sustenance, as thorns, on account of which the Word of God cannot put forth its strength or its fruits. St. Paul expounds the meaning of the thorns in 1 Timothy 6:9-10, saying: “They that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil; which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

11. Here compare the good things that faith brings and does, with the harm that is done by unbelief. For, in addition to this, that faith has the divine grace and blessing, it also has the promise that it shall be sufficiently supplied with all that it needs. It fills the heart with such goodness, peace and joy that it may well be called the root of all good things. Unbelief, on the other hand, with all its cares and covetousness, shall have this as its reward, that it is not bettered thereby, but must fall into all sorts of snares through many hurtful lusts and desires; and thus it attains to nothing in the end but eternal destruction. It is therefore nothing but the root whence all misfortunes spring.

This Is the Singular Reason for WELS and the Missouri Synod Serving as Abusive Cults, Not Denominations, Not Genuine Synods

LCMS, WELS, and ELCA clamored to earn their DMin degrees under the pro-abortion, pro-Planned Parenthood leadership of Donald McGavran, Fuller Seminary.

LCMS and WELS portray themselves as Lutherans (not!) and as conservative Lutherans (definitely not!). Both had rocky starts, being more Calvinist/Pietist than Lutheran. History is often boring and always debatable.

LCMS

As I have observed, often based on the statements of Walther worshipers, CFW did not teach the Chief Article of the Christian Religion - Justification by Faith - but quite the opposite. That puts him in the category of cult leader, not only from his Bishop Stephan's dogma of Objective Faithless Justification, but also from his dishonesty, frauds, and felonies.

If someone could erase or hide Walther's crimes, his anti-Biblical dogma would remain, propped up by those who also confuse and merge the Atonement with Justification - as he did.

Walther insisted on his own way and dominated the sect. However, OJ did not control the entire sect. Justification by Faith remained the major doctrine and continued to be published in their Small Catechisms (such as the KJV catechism) at Concordia Publishing House, in recent years.

Walther, by picking F. Pieper on the St. Louis faculty, ensured the Stephan dogma and therefore disciples of the Halle dogma.

Walther's "grace war" or predestination arguments were nothing more than a way to present a cloaked version of OJ. The Jesuit-trained John Brenner (WELS) acknowledged that in his book. Walther succeeded in breaking up the Olde Synodical Conference so he could be the Big Cheese and not opposition from men more faithful, smarter, and more honest than he ever was.

The 1932 Brief Statement canonized OJ, creating another layer of baloney to force the Halle dogma on the Missouri Cult.

Missouri has continue to lie about its doctrine, which is neither Biblical nor Lutheran, while absorbing and promoting their brand of Calvinism. The poorly trained pastors are so sacrament starved that they have formed quasi-Catholic clubs to promote their Father in Rome and their Father Below.

I own a Knapp, given to me by a former WELS student who is now ELCA. The SJ/OJ terms came from the famous Calvinist translator of Knapp. Both Woods and Knapp were respected in America, and Walther liked the SJ/OJ terms, which were gradually adopted by the doctrinally compromised victims of the Walther cults, the same ones who declared the elements of Holy Communion were just bread and wine until they held them in their consecrated hands.

WELS threw Gausewitz under the bus a long time ago.

WELS

The Wisconsin Sect proves its obnoxious hazing love affair each year, aimed at uniting the first year seminary students with physical and verbal abuse, taking off their clothes for the kitchen staff, and being obnoxious, crude, and addicted to alcohol. One thing will never crop up - using the seminary library.

Walther was able to keep them and the ELS in the fold. CFW even tried to merge WELS seminary students with his in St. Louis, but that did not continue. WELS taught Justification by Faith for a time, but the loss of Gausewitz made it possible for the OJ spirit of darkness to take over slowly.

The original Gausewitz catechism did not have a whisper of OJ, and the original continued to circulate until I publicized that the first ones were still be used. Now the OJ-free catechism has disappeared. But - edited and enhanced and verbose versions appeared. Next came the ultra-dumb Kuske catechism with the pure dogma of OJ, on and on.

Gausewitz was head of the Olde Synodical Conference, so all must have approved of a Justification by Faith catechism in the early days, just as some early Brief Statements were Justification by Faith before the canonical 1932 version floated down from heaven or emerged from the Cloaca Maxima.

Cloaca Maxima, Rome - how ironic.

The LCMS and WELS Are Abusive Cults

WELS is no different from ELCA. In fact, the WELS/LCMS guy who helped start a gay seminary was way ahead of the future ELCA.

The haughty treatment of Luther's Large Catechism proved once again that the LCMS mocks the Reformation and the Book of Concord. WELS says "Me too! Me too!"

Pastor Martin Stephan did not mount a glorious escape from persecution to start a new church in America. He was under house arrest for his dalliances with young women and already had a hot dose of syphilis. He shunned his wife to stay at a spa with his mistress, and took his mistress with him to sail to America with his cult.

The Walter circle of pastors and teachers was 100% Pietist, like Stephan, not Lutheran, not repristinating anything but lying all the time. Walther even kidnapped his own niece and nephew from his parental home, clearly a felony anywhere.

Stephan insisted on being made a bishop before he stepped foot on dry land, his promotion endorsed in writing by CFW and others. However, his syphilitic brain was getting worse and Walther saw a great opportunity to take over. CFW arranged a riot in Perryville, robbed Stephan of everything, called him a thief, and forced him over to Illinois at gunpoint - more felonies. Stephan's main mistress crossed over to live with him. She was quartered next to him on the trip over.

Walther consolidated his power and insisted on his way at all times. That is how he broke the rules to make F. Pieper the dogma professor. Pieper cleverly wrapped efficacy and the Means of Grace around the rotten core of Objective Faithless Justification. Walther was no innocent. Stephan sent him a letter about OJ, which Walther claimed "saved his life."

All those who worship Walther agree that he never wavered from his adherence to the Halle dogma of his syphilitic bishop.

Walther deliberately blew up the Olde Synodical Conference, to eliminate those who opposed his idiotic, ignorant Objective Faithless Justification. When he was done with his "grace" campaign, only WELS and the ELS were left. CFW was weak in the Biblical languages and could not make a case by dealing with Justification by Faith - just like WELS-ELS-CLC-ELCA today.  Walther made it a predestination puzzle where grace could not be grace if faith was involved, yet Romans 4 makes it very clear that justification can only be by faith, or it was not grace. Walther worshipers do not see that, so they always blow smoke on the Biblical topic and run with their bookshelves of cult textbooks.

Sadly, WELS and the ELS stuck with the Walther gang of criminals (theft, kidnapping, refusing to follow the Scriptures with Stephan). They inherited have rested their Pietistic legalism on the grandeur of the Great Walther, a sure sign of a cult.

Following Walther, the other cults agree that they are never wrong, no matter how evil the crime is. Marvin Schwan - nothing happened. WELS murders - nothing happened. ELS - they are perfect too.

The three Stephan sects carry on their model of leadership - Martin Stephan. They deny their dogmatic bedrock is legalistic, hedonistic Pietism. Anyone who says they are less than perfect is shunned, excommunicated and decorated with every kind of insult anyone can imagine.

WELS denies its hazing of students, which is designed to make them "all the same." If someone knows how the hazing works, the individual gets a double dose. They even changed the name of GA to HB so they could deny the GA hazing. So-o-o clever. WELS leaders always double-talk and their members go with the game plan, because the whole extended family will shun the person who questions Holy Mother WELS.

Missouri has watered down the worst of the abusive behavior, but Matt the Fatt's behavior in running for re-election was same old pile of bullying deception. He endorsed Luther's Large Catechism (ELCA-Seminex Edition) then blocked it for several days (oh the torture of waiting) then steamrolled objections to the book as akin to the KKK and Alt-Right. Even with all that virtue signaling to the Left, Matt only got 52% of the vote. Conclusion? His charade was a way to make sure he had the votes.

Hebrews - Daily Verses - "For the Word of God Is Quick, And Powerful, And Sharper Than Any Twoedged Sword..."

KJV Hebrews 4

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Explanation

Verse 12 shows that the Word of God is always effective (or efficacious). That alone repudiates the claims of the Word and the Holy Spirit going their separate ways, making the Word "dead" at times and the Spirit fickle. The reason for many saying "Sovereign Lord" is to say God may be present or not during a sermon, a baptism or the Lord's Supper.

Verse 13 teaches that the Word is 100% discerning, which may be why so many shun the Word out of guilt or scorn, giving up the peace and joy from forgiveness through faith in the Savior.

Verse 14 portrays Jesus Christ as our great high priest, reason enough to avoid calling pastors "Father" and instituting a priesthood lacking in the New Testament but dominant in the minds of quasi-Romanists.

Verse 15 emphasizes the Two Natures of the Son of God, His human nature having experienced the trials, suffering, and pain of our human condition. The key point is Christ tempted just as we are, yet without sin - His divine nature. As the Word made flesh, He is the face and voice of God.

Verse 16 reveals that the Promised Messiah helps us come to the Lamb of God, slain for our sins, and receive grace through faith alone, and mercy.

Daily Luther Sermon Quote - "Such Favors He Also Bestows upon the Godless And Unbelieving, And upon Them More Than upon Others."

Complete Sermon Here -> FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY.

SECOND SERMON: LUKE 5:1-11.

5. By this example he especially shows how it goes with those upon whom he is to bestow his gifts and assistance, and how he is accustomed to bestow these favors. It goes with them as it went with those fishermen, who labored all the night, yet had nothing for all their trouble and labor, and had nothing to hope for from human counsel or aid. Manifold tribulations, miseries and distress are the daily experience of all Christendom. If Christ is to help, there must be trials, trouble and toil, and it must come to this, that we despair of all human counsel, comfort and ability. Then he comes with his help, and shows that he still has the means of comfort, counsel, protection and deliverance, and that he is able to bestow all this when everything else has failed us, and when all that we have done or suffered, and still may be able to do, is nothing and in vain; yea, that in such need and weakness he gives and helps in richer measure than could be done by all human power, skill and aid.

6. On the other hand, by saying to his disciples: “Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught,” Christ shows that he does not forbid work, or would have that neglected which we have been commanded to do. He thereby enjoins upon them to continue in their handicraft. The two things are thus well maintained over against each other, namely, that we must work, and that our work accomplishes nothing. For if toil and trouble could have accomplished anything, then would the disciples have accomplished it during the hours of the night; and all the more so then, as they had hopes of taking a greater number of fishes while the silence and darkness continued than when Christ, in broad daylight, commanded them to let down their nets. Nevertheless, at Christ’s word, and at one draught, they drew them in full to overflowing.

7. From this every one may see and learn that no man lives by his labor or exertion, however great and unhampered this may be, but must live by God’s blessing and grace. Let it remain at this, as the Germans say, that “God helps,” or “God bestows his gifts over night,” which saying has come down to us from pious men of old who realized its truth in their experience. Daily experience still shows that many a one toils, tooth and nail, in anxiety and hard work, who yet can scarcely earn his bread or get rid of his debts and poverty; whilst to another, who takes it easy and newer overexerts himself, everything comes and flows in so abundantly that we really must say: “All this comes from God’s help and not from any man’s labor.” In Psalm 127:2 we are told: “So he giveth it unto his beloved in sleep,” as if the Psalmist would say: “It is in vain that you fret and plague yourself with cares and labor, day and night, in order to provide what is needed in the home. Much may be needed there; but it does not depend upon your hands and labor at all. Nothing will come of your effort unless God himself is the “House Father” and makes it possible for you to say: ‘God bestows his gifts over night. ’ Grain and all food from the earth, yea, all that a man has, or may acquire, must be given him of God.”

8. Such favors he also bestows upon the godless and unbelieving, and upon them more than upon others. With temporal goods he fills to overflowing the house and home of many wicked men who never think of a God.
