Simply Look at the Facts about UOJ and Justification by Faith.
One Rejects the Other - No Harmony Exists

WAM II taught Justification by Faith, so the Otten-Preus Syndicate defamed him as a false teacher. WAM II was demoted as a professor. Robert Preus was promoted as equal to Walther in his doctrinal acumen, an oddly fitting honor. However, Robert repented of OJ before he died.

I have pointed out in various circumstances that using "'my dogmatics textbook" versus "your dogmatic textbook" is not persuasive or effective. That is what the Calvinists in all denominations (Lutherans included) want. Their weak point is a unified Scripture knowledge. Their strongpoint is dogmatics. They have book chapter and verse for all their falsehoods, as CLC Pastor Mayhew displayed so convincingly in his YouTube.

Setting aside the actual arguments for a moment...Let's look at the state of the issue. There are two sides - clearly - because the UOJ Stormtroopers never stop attacking Justification by Faith. I simply want to emphasize honesty, which is entirely lacking.

 The original...

Otten's copycat cover. He even copies and pastes book design, when it earns money for feigning sincerity in doctrine.

Political Front
First of all, the Preus Family and Otten, Inc attacked Dr. Walter A. Maier II in a vicious, dishonest, and cowardly fashion - at a national level. They held up their precious UOJ and used the strange tactic of feigning horror  that WAM II denied UOJ.

Robert's little essay (portrayed as canonical by Cascione and Paul McCain) is laughably bad, so alienated from the Scriptures that it does not hold up under the first reading.

The poorly educated political parson and plagiarist, Paul McCain, has so little reading comprehension that he should be banned from editing more difficult than Dick, Jane, and Sally Go to VBS.

And yet, despite this national and ongoing beating, Otten and the Preus Family pretend they are huge fans of Dr. Walter A. Maier. Huge!

I have a signed copy of Otten's book on Dr. Maier I, the back cover containing the quote in the graphic. I scanned it lest someone say I was lying. Justification by Faith and Biblical inerrancy are the capstone and cornerstone of the Christian Faith.

This edition from Herman Otten, signed by Otten hisself,
boasts this quotation, scanned from the back cover.
The World Still Listens - but Otten is deaf to the Gospel.

Chameleons can turn every color - but white.
The Rolf Synod ran back to the Little Sect and the LCMS.

Missouri made millions of dollars from Dr. Maier's ministry, even while publicly gutting his son. Marvin Schwan, the patron saint of adulterous millionaires, gave $20 million just for the Lutheran Hour building and grounds.

Doctrinal Front
Justification by Faith and Justification without Faith cannot be the same doctrine or harmonious doctrines.

However, the UOJ Hive continues to promote their sad, sick dogmas while the Biblical version has a chance to shine, here and there.

  1. The LCMS finally published the Apology of the Book of Concord, by Martin Chemnitz - Justification by Faith
  2. They also published the bloated, neo-Barthian Confessing Christ dogmatics book, which features UOJ (ditto the new, Titanic-sized Small Catechism).

Is anything more despicable than using Luther's name and publications to promote an anti-Biblical agenda?

WELS professors like Bivens (copying Zarling) pretend that their UOJ is the same as the Book of Concord's Chief Article.

If fact, readers will find that the false teachers alive and well today are adept at introducing Justification as the theme of the Reformation and using that word to mean UOJ,

  1. which erupted first in the Calvinist Huber
  2. then at Halle University, and
  3. found its OJ and SJ in the Calvinist explanation of a Halle theologian's dogmatics book. See Knapp and Woods below.

Do the OJists admit that their terms come from a Calvinist translator? This was and is a major book for Pietists. WELS admits the terms were adopted in Germany and Walther adopted them. Besides that, various cults use the term Objective Justification too.

Do Otten's Baptist buddies notice that the editor is on the wrong side of the issue? Probably not, because the traditional Baptists are being taken over and replaced by Calvinist Baptists. The Calvinists were given a "seat at the table" long ago and now they want the entire table, food and dessert and wine and cigars for themselves.

CLC Pastor Nathanael Mayhew Teaches Grace without the Means of Grace -
"Judas Is in Hell with His Sins Forgiven"

The Easter absolution of the world - without faith - is the version that Bishop Stephan, STD, taught CFW Walther.

Genesis 15:6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

GJ - Note that the Greek verb used in the Septuagint, Genesis 15:6 for counted, is the same verb used in Romans 4 for counted and imputed. Those terms mean the same thing - count, impute, reckon.

Romans 4 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

9 Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

10 How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

14 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:

15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:

20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;

24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Unlike the old NIV, which was pretty bad, the New NIV (official Bible of the Wisconsin Sect) teaches that "all" are justified in Romans 3 - though the "all" is missing from all Greek texts. Nevermind, that is the dynamic equivalence of the Greek text, according to those who need Nida.

***

GJ - Mayhew is another example of the brainwashed pastor (ELCA-WELS-ELS-LCMS-CLC sic) who reads his dogmatics textbook and uses that to replace and ridicule the Holy Scriptures.

Anyone can see from the plain meaning of the Scriptures that faith is not the opposite of grace. Note the ironic title of Mayhew's sect - Church of the Lutheran Confession (sic). In contrast, the Lutheran Confessions repudiate his cowardly demi-semi-Universalism.

Class - let's read out loud the one-volume Bible Commentary called the Book of Concord. What do Luther, Melanchthon, and the Concordists consider the Chief Article of Christianity? Bueller. Bueller. Anyone? Anyone?

The Last Page - Calvin Ruined the Protestant Faith

A Simple Program To Expel Calvinism from the Protestant Faith

Calvin’s errors and emissions have ruined the Protestant Faith in stages, so they must be removed the same way.

The Bible

The best and unchanging version is the King James, which is updated from the original. There are many King James updates available, all of them superior in the Greek text used and the precision of language in translating. There is no need for Nida.
The traditional Greek New Testament text is Stephanus, easily found on Bible Gateway.

The Worship Service

Erasing the traditional liturgy was a clever ploy by Zwingli and Calvin to distance themselves from Roman Catholicism, yet they were glad to make themselves mini-popes. The liturgical service emphasizes Christ, the Means of Grace, repentance, forgiveness, and the Sacraments established by Christ – Holy Baptism and Holy Communion. Jesus did not institute pop music, coaching talks, or snacks during worship.

The Scripture readings follow a cycle and the sermon is normally an exposition on one of the lessons. The sermon should be written out and published but delivered without notes. The text itself is a good outline.

Publishing the written service and sermon can be by email, blog, or website. Broadcasting can be live – and saved – with streaming video or other technologies.

The sermons are an ongoing study of the basic Biblical texts, equally good for the pastor and the congregation. The traditional hymns are another great expression of faith, and there are many opportunities to teach through them.

Classes

Given the low level of knowledge about the Bible and Christian doctrine (and not just among the clergy), adult classes can be a step-by-step study of books of the Bible and classic doctrinal books, like Luther’s Galatians Lectures.

Visitation

The pastor should be glad to take the Gospel to the sick, shut-in, and elderly. Getting to know the neighborhood is easy with daily walks with the dog, far less expensive than useless and expensive programs guaranteed to bring success.

Social Activities

The congregation should make sure the pastor has the encouragement and time to emphasize worship, study, and visitation. The pastor should make time for his wife and children.

Trust the Word

The Word itself will accomplish God’s will, accompanied by the cross.

Last Big Installment - Calvin Ruined the Protestant Faith

John Sparky Brenner worked on this research for his doctoral dissertation at a Catholic university. He substitutes “individual appropriation of forgiveness” for Justification by Faith, because he has already misused Justification for the “Justification of the World,” his favorite term for Objective Justification.
If anyone wonders where so many errors begin in the LCMS, WELS, and ELS, they only need to look at Walther’s Pietistic version of Calvinism. The polyps have all turned into cancer, so swaths of the Synodical Conference are Pentecostal, Universalist, or sinuflecting toward Rome.

Limited Atonement

Nothing strikes the ears so blatantly as the cacophony of Calvin’s limited atonement. But, if mankind’s salvation and damnation are determined at the beginning of time, the atonement cannot be universal in their thinking. Once again, separating the Holy Spirit from the Word generates gross errors, because the claims replace the revealed, inerrant Word as the foundation. Oddly, this strange term is used by the Calvinizing Lutherans against the Chief Article. LCMS radio broadcaster and fund-raised Todd Wilken chuckled and said, “Justification by Faith is Calvinism.” The advocates of Objective Justification also imagine that the Chief Article assumes the limited atonement, a sad commentary on LCMS knowledge of Calvin, Luther, and the Scriptures.

Irresistible Grace

If man is so utterly depraved, then grace must be irresistible. This claim, nowhere to be found in the Word, diminishes and defames the Means of Grace. Since baptism and communion mean little as symbols and mere ordinances, they count little among most Protestants. Can anyone find a hymn about baptism or communion written by non-Lutherans? They must be as rare as hen’s teeth, but Lutheran hymns about the Sacraments are beautiful, comforting expressions of faith.

Perseverance of the Saints

Vance has accumulated many quotations to show that Calvin and Calvinists are scattered in their definitions. This problem is another reason why Christians should avoid ambiguous terminology not found or supported in the Scriptures.

Denial of the Word’s Efficacy Undermines Support for Creation

Some issues are not hotly debated today, but God’s Creation in six 24-hour days is rapidly separating the good from the bad. The 16th century did not deny Creation, but Zwingli and Calvin denied the Spirit-Word connection in the Bible, setting the table for Christians to understand and believe the science of their era rather than the mysteries of God revealed by the Scriptures.

Ironically, the scientific Protestants of today are thralls of 19th century theories, derived by Charles Darwin and from Charles Darwin. Therefore, they plunge forward with little grasp of the created world around them, the perfect synchronizing of plants, animals, seasons, the sun and moon, even fungus and bacteria in the soil.

The sovereignty of the Holy Spirit is defined by Calvin as fickleness, chance, beyond man’s control. This error is corrosive, so the denial of the Sacraments begins to work upon the miracles, the divinity of Christ, Creation, the Trinity, and finally the existence of God.

When we follow the plain teaching of the Scriptures, we know that the Word always brings Christ to us, grace through the Instruments of Grace, never doubting God’s Promises –
For rebirth, washing, a new creation;
For the forgiveness of sin;
For everlasting life.

The power of the Word is so great that we can trust its effectiveness at all times, always accomplishing God’s will, never returning void, but prospering His will. That may mean hardening and blinding those who persistently and obstinately oppose the Word, as so many clergy, denominational leaders, and professors do today. They are like the thieves who want to steal copper and cannot grasp the energy in those thick, high-power lines. They turn what is good for society into death for them.
When my baker father found mealworms in his flour, he did not say, “Leave them alone. We do not want to split or diminish the flour supply.” Instead, he said, “Get these out of here. They will take over the bakery if we let them alone.”
Likewise, the Word divides the good from the bad. We can also depend on the Gospel Word to foster the growth of the fruits of the Spirit. At that point we can see how damaging the cancer of Calvinism has been in the name of growth.

Calvin and Barth-Kirschbaum Feed the Church Growth Cancer

Dr. Walter A. Maier (PhD, Harvard) correctly stated that Justification by Faith and the inerrancy of the Bible are the capstone and cornerstone of the Christian Faith.[1] How can someone argue for studying the dogma and methods of a seminary boasting of anti-inerrancy and marketing statistics, in the name of missions?
David Hubbard had another idea about inerrancy at Fuller. The topic was a distraction that hampered their work for missions. He wrote with pious wrath some years ago:
"We resent unnecessary distractions; we resist unbiblical diversions. Can anyone believe that all other activities should be suspended until all evangelicals agree on precise doctrinal statements? We certainly cannot."  David Allan Hubbard, "What We Believe and Teach," Pasadena, California: Fuller Theological Seminary.
Because Fuller was changed by faculty devotion to the dogmatics of Barth and Kirschbaum, the entire program was changed and expanded. That degeneration was destined to happen, because it began with the creative Enthusiasm of Zwingli and Calvin, followed later by the turning point at Halle University – with Schleiermacher as professor and dogmatics author.

Unfaithful Theologians and Their Dogmatics

Innocent laity and clergy think theologians are writing as faithfully as they can about God, using the Scriptures, but modern efforts are no different from writing novels and short stories based upon some research and experience. No boundaries exist, and the peers of theologians admire someone who is different, challenging, shocking, and rebellious toward the Bible and Christianity.
·        The late Paul Tillich was a celebrity theologian, featured on the cover of Time magazine, but his own colleagues at the Left-wing Union Seminary were shocked at his radicalism, which was a form of pantheism: all the people, planets, plants, and animals are god. He explained that nonsense in three volumes of his Systematic Theology.
·        Karl Barth and Charlotte Kirschbaum worked closely together to fashion an entire industry of publishing and writing about Barth. Only lately have writers opened up about what was known in the 1970s about their Marxism and blatant adultery. Their 14 volume Church Dogmatics often sells at an extreme discount.
·        Rudolph Bultmann kept the world of Biblical scholarship stirred up by finding almost nothing truly known about Jesus, claiming the Bible needed to be de-mythologized.
·        Braaten-Jenson wrote the pre-ELCA Christian Dogmatics, two volumes, where every article of faith in the Apostles Creed is mocked and rejected. The set still sells today, and Carl Braaten complains about the apostasy of ELCA, which he did so much to establish.
·        The Missouri Synod spent many years creating a two-volume Confessing the Gospel: A Lutheran Approach to Systematic Theology. Unfortunately, these great scholars repeated the error of Walther and Pieper, devoting their energies to substituting Objective Justification for the Chief Article of Christianity, Justification by Faith. The St. Louis Seminary professors also back-pedal on Creation, so readers know that Seminex has been reborn at its original OJ location.

The Prussian Union Church Reborn

The government forced the Lutherans to stop emphasizing the doctrine of Reformation, in favor of peace through unity with the Calvinists. Schleiermacher participated in making this happen.
By attracting so many Lutherans and Protestants to Fuller Seminary and making that school their unifying institution, with massive help from Thrivent Insurance, all the Lutheran synods have been amalgamated into modern Calvinism, with an emphasis on rationalism, marketing, and outward success.

When I became the Lutheran I always was[2], every Lutheran congregation in town had liturgical services, hymns, the Creed, and Biblical sermons. The Disciples of Christ congregation I left was all gimmicks, paleo-Church Growth, now empty and unwanted. Since that time in the 1960s, I have found the Lutheran Church in all its forms retreating into the Disciples of Christ model, where the always-tanned minister arrived in a fire truck one Sunday, rode down the aisle on a Hog another Sunday.

All about the Numbers

One dense WELS pastor said they had to stick to Fuller Seminary because “We cannot give up all their world mission statistics!”
Church Growth was initiated at Fuller by a sociologist from the Disciples of Christ and World Council of Churches – Donald McGavran. His doctorate favored statistical analysis, which works well in discovering that Pop Tarts sell like crazy before a big storm. Numbers have served as a delightful opiate to let the addicts find comfort in staring a charts and working on new plans.

Needless to say, when numbers are first, then fidelity to the Christian Faith is dead last. The proof comes from the leaders who refuse to admit they bought and paid for this debacle
1.     By their religious apostasy,
2.     By their devotion to Fuller and likeminded synagogues of Satan,
3.     By their destruction of anyone who dared to tell the truth about their corrupt practices, felonies, and subsequent lawsuits.
As the misled have shouted at various times, “Either we are growing or we are dying!”

The Word of God Needs Help – Entertainment

At the Chicago Inerrancy Conference, a Calvinist rudely charged Dr. Robert Preus with not explaining and making relevant his summary of Christian doctrine. Preus condensed a number of descriptions of God, a pleasure to read and hear. The late-comer to the Reformation knew what should been done. “I would not let one of my students get away with this.”
The Fuller kamikaze pilots have attacked every denomination, every parish, a few facts leavened with great big lies.
1.     Pipe organs are no good, old-fashioned.
2.     Sermons are no good, too boring.
3.     The liturgy, any formal Christ-centered worship, has to go.
4.     Traditional Christian hymns must be replaced with Vacation Bible School songs and praise bands who praise themselves and sell their music.
5.     The minister should dress for the south forty or a day of tag football.
6.     The church sign must be generic, like Grace Point, or Family Center.
I heard a rich business man declare all this as the program for the congregation, as the WELS pastor nodded his head in submission. Who was the source of all this? – one of the great church destroyers, known for his infidelities.

We Must Have Plans, Goals, and Strategies
Peter Drucker, Management by Objectives, cleverly attached himself to Fuller Seminary and sold everyone on his secular style of planning. Jim Huebner’s face went white when I told him I knew all about Drucker. In fact, the LCA taught the same things because their leaders studied at Fuller, just like Huebner, Kelm, Olson, Bivens, Valleskey, Oelhafen, Adrian, and many more.
Thanks to this Fuller-Drucker team, everyone is taught that they must have goals, that their church will never grow unless they have gigantic visions, with specific and achievable and measurable goals to make the visions become reality. Strangely, every denomination had visions suggesting inhalant abuse – hundreds of new missions, thousands of new members. A pastor (now an atheist) dreamed of having a world-famous valet parking ministry with 8,000 communing members. That parish is now almost empty.
The only goal should be fidelity to the Scriptures, from which spiritual fruits and gifts will emerge for God to carry out His plans.

Shallow Teaching, Instant Members

Long ago, people figured out that children do not grow healthy and strong on a diet of candy and desserts. However, the Fuller brain-washed lust for measurable results, so they need instant members.
One rock-ribbed Walther Enthusiast, considered a Bronze Age Missourian, said this, “We needed more members, so we hired Waldo Werning to come in and teach Church Growth. We were desperate!”

Those pastors who teach prospects for one-hour and make them members are creating a fragile and volatile congregation. A little conflict will make them melt down like a meringue pie left on a sunny ledge.
Genuine teaching will strengthen the couples, families, and congregation, knowing that people move and take the Gospel they know with them.

Busy But Not Busy Visiting

The ideal Church Growth pastor is a rancher with enormous herds, even multiple sites, so individuals seldom see them, even after the service. Most congregations are not like that, but the wannabees are too busy, so they tell us, to visit their own members. Nothing is more important than to take the Gospel to the hospitalized, the sick and shut-in, the elderly who have done so much. Why does it take a metaphorical cattle-prod to get a Church Growth pastor to visit?
The short conclusion will be a positive, therapeutic program based on the efficacy of the Word in the Means of Grace.

Calvin's Dogmatics Sound Strangely LCMS-WELS-ELS-CLC sic.
Calvin Ruined the Protestant Faith

"Honey I Shrunk the Synod" is the campaign slogan for Matt the Fatt, Mirthless Mark Schroeder, and Pope John the Malefactor.

Calvin’s Creative Dogmatics

Ever since Schleiermacher in the 19th century, the best description for modern theology has remained “faith without belief.” Many apostates do not write complete dogmatics books – where they cover every topic from the Trinity to the End Times. However, they belong to the same mind-set as Calvin, who was systematic in his production of Bible commentaries and persistent in his revisions of Institutes of the Christian Religion. The former set includes a commentary on every single book in the Bible. The second is his dogmatics book, which taught double predestination – an early form of Objective Justification – from the first edition to the last.

Today people are concerned with the denial of Creation, the divinity of Christ, and the institution of marriage, as they should be. But Calvin attacked Biblical doctrine in the 16th century and stuck to his foundational error, separating the Holy Spirit’s work from the Word and Sacraments, inventing his own version of Christianity. His system is a pack of contradictions, which is why Calvinists have never agreed on anything except their opposition to Lutheran Biblical insights.

Calvin’s dogma is often condensed into TULIP – total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, the persistence of the saints. These topics are discussed and eviscerated in detail in Laurence M. Vance’s The Other Side of Calvinism.

Total Depravity

Total depravity is not simply man’s sinful nature, which remains as long as we live, but a total inability to repent and believe in the Savior. This claim is a good example of Luther saying that the Enthusiasts speak about Jesus all the time, but tear down the way in which Christ comes to us – the Means of Grace.

Oh bless the name and bless the face
that gave us irresistible grace.

Unconditional Election

During my Purgatory of reading modern theology at Notre Dame, one claim stood out among all the writers – forgiveness of sin, grace, and salvation must be unconditional, seemingly what Calvin and his ardent followers believe. In other words, there can be no “if” for the “if” creates a condition. Grace is no longer grace, they claimed. But Paul stated about counting or imputing righteousness, citing Genesis 15:6:
Romans 4:23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; 24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

“If we believe” is a powerful condition, which is also found throughout Romans and stressed in Romans 1, 3, 4, and 10.
Calvinists claim unconditional election as the perfect companion for total depravity, and each error does require the other error. Together, they skip the Means of Grace, which is why the Lutheran Calvinists avoid the Means of Grace term as well as Justification by Faith.

Some hail CFW Walther as their guru in theology, but he came from a rationalistic parsonage, thanks to the Prussian Union, earning only a bachelor’s degree at Leipzig University, which meant more rationalism. He associated with Pietists and found comfort in Pietistic cell groups. He adopted the Objective Justification of his Pietistic leader, Martin Stephan – to wit – God absolved the entire world of sin when Jesus rose from the dead, though 1Timothy 3:16 makes no such claim. Walther propped up his ridiculous claim by saying that faith could have no connection with election, following Calvin. In stressing this fallacy, Walther divided the Synodical Conference and made himself the sole judge of doctrine.

Getting into Calvinist Dogmatics and the Destructive Effects Thereof.
Calvin Ruined the Protestant Faith

VP James Huebner is a Fuller alumnus, like the rest of the WELS leaders.

This Universalism won in the latest version of the NIV, where in Romans 3, not only have all sinned, but all – yes all – have been justified, though the second all is not in any text. That no longer matters when the clergy know little Latin and less Greek.
New NIV Romans 3:22b There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all [GJ – not in any Greek text] are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Young Calvinist, Old Unitarian

Sages of the past have said, “Young Calvinist, Old Unitarian.” Those regions dominated by Calvinists – like New England – show that effect, and the congregations shrink accordingly. The effect of rationalistic and contradictory Calvinism on people is to gradually reduce their trust in the Scripture and rely instead on Dame Reason. If we allow our human reason and fickle emotions to judge the Bible from the beginning, that lady’s work will not finish until nothing divine is left.

Universalism Is No Better

Calvinism is a type of closeted Universalism, so no one should wonder that Objective Justification is so similar. The Calvinist will consider the vast majority of people condemned to hellfire from eternity as a poor reflection on God’s grace, asking instead why not declare everyone forgiven and saved, familiar words to DP Jon Buchholz. Under such conditions, conclusions will be:
1.     Everyone is saved – basic Universalism.
2.     Everyone is saved and only needs to agree with that statement.
Those are hollow statements, derived from contradictory assumptions and clearly opposed to the Gospel, God’s grace, and the Word of the Holy Spirit.
In Romans 10, Paul shows that we are forgiven through faith in the Gospel. All who call upon the Name of the Lord will be forgiven and saved. They only come to faith from hearing the preached Word – reflecting on Isaiah 53, the Old Testament Gospel. Therefore, we must proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Forgiveness and salvation come from the broadcast of God’s Word, not from philosophical speculation.

From Orthodoxy’s Prolixity to Barthian Bombast

Lutheran Orthodoxy and Calvinist Attacks

Chemnitz compared the Calvinists and Zwinglians to renters in his brilliant conclusion to the Apology of the Book of Concord. The Swiss interlopers are like the renters who tell the owner of the properties that they would behave if only landlords did what they were told by those living in their homes and apartements. The Reformation began with Luther, Melanchthon, and many brilliant and faithful men drawn to Wittenberg. As stated before, Zwingli and Calvin pretended to agree with Luther until they had another way of viewing the Scriptures, the very source of false doctrine, separating the Spirit from the Word. They were no different from the Pope declaring revelations from the throne of his heart or Mormons writing and revising books from convenient revelations shared only with them.

Chemnitz studied under Luther and Melanchthon, feeling the force and anger of the Swiss separatists and their influence upon the Reformation. The forces against Rome were thus divided by not continuing a faithful witness to the Word. Chemnitz continued the style of Luther and Melanchthon, drawing out the lessons of the Word through careful teaching from the appropriate texts. After Gerhard, who worked with Chemnitz on the Harmonies, Lutheran Orthodoxy became far more philosophical and opaque in answering the philosophical objections of the Swiss.

Concentrating on the Third String

Certain Lutheran groups would have people sigh like rock fans when they hear the term Lutheran Orthodoxy, but that is misleading. One should picture enormous Calvinist tomes answered by equally large Lutheran volumes, each one engaged in the Latin terms for their philosophical structures built to replace the size and splendor of Medieval cathedrals.

Luther did not write a systematic theology, but later writers did, and the field of Christian theology became dry, sterile, and aching for replacement. Unfortunately, Pietism was the ecumenical answer and confessing the truth from the Scriptures was sidelined.

Walther and Pieper found it practical to teach from J. W. Baier and Pietism, rather than from Luther, Melanchthon, and Chemnitz.[1] By concentrating on the late, third string orthodox, the leaders were able to construct a rationalistic structure clogged with Latin terms. There is even a book published to help people with all of Pieper’s Latin terms. A key to the Scriptures would be more useful, especially since Walther and Pieper taught against the Bible, against Luther and the Book of Concord, against the Reformation.
American Protestants of the 19th century were influenced by rationalism, Pietism, and Lutheran or Calvinist orthodoxy. Some went through times when they sought to recover their founders’ wisdom and fidelity. Although Walther’s sect was considered or at least fashioned a repristinating movement, it was really a smorgasbord without the Swedes. They were brought over by a bishop, Stephan, and taken over by a pope, Walther. All the Stephanite leaders were cell group Pietists, though Walther pretended otherwise and everyone has officially forgotten the facts.
A lot of great work was done in publishing but the Halle Pietism of Objective Justification took over, pushed forward by Walther and his carefully selected successor, Pieper. No one should wonder that the Missouri Synod has two multi-volume editions of a dogmatics textbook – Pieper and Harrison. Both contradict the style and content of the Reformation, which brings us to the era of Barth-Kirschbaum.

Karl Barth and Charlotte Kirschbaum – Infidelity Personified

Once upon a time I met a graduate student at Yale. His wife worked at the Yale Medical School Library, where I labored in xeroxing rather than pediatrics or neurosurgery. He went on to write Karl Barth and Radical Politics, to head the Barth Center at Princeton. Barth was called the “red pastor of Safenwill” and his group of pastors the red circuit. His initial Romans commentary made him famous, and he was elevated or ejected into academic life, where he was over his head. His beautiful young assistant, Charlotte Kirschbaum, helped him with his research and everything else. Frank Fiorenza, former president of the Barth Society, said the Barthians concluded that she did the small print work in the dogmatics while he constructed the outlines. He took the glory for her labor, but he dedicated his first volume to Charlotte, lived with her in a cottage each summer, writing together, and moved her into his home with his wife Nelly and their children.[2]

Simply put, that enormous set of books is an intellectual structure to enhance and promote the Marxist politics of Karl Barth and his mistress, Charlotte Kirschbaum. Barth did more than cheat in his marriage and ordination vows. He also plagiarized the work of his lovely assistant, who worked for nothing, only pennies for expenses. When people gave him material for his colossal set of dogmatics, he included their work verbatim, without attribution.
A few conservative Protestants saw his clever claptrap for what it was, a mask over apostasy, where he presented an idea and undermined traditional Christian teaching. Like all Calvinists, he loathed Lutheran doctrine and made that plain in comments like this, “He was a good Lutheran, too good a Lutheran.” He finally dedicated his last volume, which was not finished, to Nelly, after Charlotte became sick and died. The Dogmatics ended with Charlotte’s life, but the damage has continued.

Barth has fooled the conservative Evangelicals to such an extent that one Hillsdale College professor tore my head off when I suggested Barth was an apostate and a fraud.

Just as Scheiermacher was the first liberal theologian, a product and a professor at Halle University, so Barth was the most ecumenical apostate of the 20th century and beyond. Two influential professors at Fuller Seminary studied under Barth and brought back his rationalistic view of the Bible – it contains God’s Word but is not God’s Word. One WELS pastor earned a DMin at Fuller Seminary and wrote to me in a note, “You are right. Barth is the official theologian of Fuller.”

The famous Battle for the Bible narrative, about Biblical inerrancy being excommunicated from Fuller, is based upon Barth’s influence on the seminary’s leadership. Harold Lindsell wrote about the agony caused in a school founded to teach inerrancy and turned another direction by Barth alumni, one the founder’s son. Is there a better Absalom than Daniel Fuller?
2 Samuel 18:33 O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!
Fuller expanded greatly after abandoning inerrancy, sending out a brochure which is comical in its angry confession of principles –

"Were we to distinguish our position from that of some of our brothers and sisters who perceive their view of Scripture as more orthodox than ours, several points could be made: 1) we would stress the need to be aware of the historical and literary process by which God brought the Word to us... 4) we would urge that the emphasis be placed where the Bible itself places it—on its message of salvation and its instruction for living, not on its details of geography or science, though we acknowledge the wonderful reliability of the Bible as a historical source book; 5) we would strive to develop our doctrine of Scripture by hearing all that the Bible says, rather than by imposing on the Bible a philosophical judgment of our own as to how God ought to have inspired the Word."    David Allan Hubbard, "What We Believe and Teach," Pasadena, California: Fuller Theological Seminary, 800-235-2222 Pasadena, CA, 91182. [emphasis added]

Fuller Seminary went after the leaders of all denominations in world missions, then did the same with Church Growth. They did not exclude Roman Catholic leaders. No one missed the message that study at Fuller was the best way to leverage one’s career, especially when the executives suggested it, funded it, and rewarded it with promotions. All Protestant denominations are burdened with Fuller Seminary alumni, many with drive-by DMins, all anxiously and energetically destroying their denominations in the name of growth. These know-it-all bumpkins wreck worship, evangelism, and Scripture while sowing hatred and various levels of infidelity. All this can be laid at the feet of Barth and Kirschbaum, their knowing enablers, and those too timid to object.

Creative Dogmatics tune in tomorrow

[1] Baier was born a century after the Book of Concord (1580) was published. That is like teaching the U. S. Constitution from the Chicago Tribune of 1920, using German philosophical terms.
[2] Marcus Barth spoke to Waterloo Lutheran Seminary, a small group gathered in a lecture room. Otto Heick gasped, “He is the picture of his father.” The Barth children were constantly embarrassed by his father’s living arrangements, hinted at in the Fortress Press biography of Karl Barth.
