The Emergent Church is the new fad, creating a place (you dasn't call it a church) for people who hate church.

That is definitely WELS methodology.

Dr. Jackson,

Before in your blog you mentioned several times how the WELS practices Mennonite-style. Here's a quote: "Discerning pastors face varying degrees of Mennonite-style shunning."

I know why they do it. The version they remember of Rom 16:17 is "...mark them which cause divisions and offences...and avoid them. Since a Confessional pastor complaining about false doctrine causes a stir, they immediately "mark and avoid them." The verse taken that way means no proof of actual wrongdoing is required to shun someone.

However, if you read it in full, Rom 16:17-18 is about avoiding false teachers like Balaam:

Rom 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Now Paul does say to avoid slanderers, but there would have to be some formal process such as a church court or Mat 18 session to decide whether an accusation of false doctrine is slander or libel, preferably with you present. Just sending you a letter telling you that you're fired is not right, I think:

1 Cor 05:11 But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.

The flow chart misses the process where the truth is made up to fit the situation.
