I got a kick out of the article citing the "financial crisis" as the reason for passing the restructuring (Res. 8-08A). This was the same reason Kieschnick and his Blue Ribbon Task Force gave for selling the plan when campaigning for it.
Both sides were pushing to pass a resolution at the convention to vote for the SP before the 8-08A vote. Although the resolution was narrowly defeated, "Pietism First" wanted it so they could vote against the restructuring if their guy didn't win, although he didn't.
Financial? Yeah, right. "Pietism First" will probably ultimately win, for their next hand-picked SP will have hierarchical polity at his disposal. The confessionals are giddy over Harrison, and I wish the man no ill. However, the confessionals are naive to think this polity won't bite them at some point down the road. There HAS to eventually be a split.
I am not sure there has to be a split. Harrison is returning the synod to the feel good, do nothing era of Barry.
Pentecostalism, Church Growth and women's ordination advanced under Barry, preparing the way for Kieschnick.
Sooner or later the obvious Left will take over again. If that SP is as power hungry as Mark Hanson (ELCA) or Kieschnick (LCMS), there will be a split.
thanks for the response. I am not sure of how to understand German Lutherans. they, after all, get all sentimental at midnight on Christmas Eve in their candle-lit sanctuaries while singing about trees in the forest.
they seem to think it important that their President be a serving pastor. Religious culture and tradition is as important to German Lutherans as is Scripture and the Confessions.

Why is this important news?
Who said "important"?
Who said, "Breaking news!"?
I thought it was interesting, Norman. Not hair-on-fire-call-Mom-interesting, but worth noting.
I use "Blog This" for such things.
