Our Male Cardinal Took a Shower, Holding onto Joe Pye Stems and Hopping to One After Another

I sprinkled the new Joe Pye planted in the backyard garden, which brought in lots of birds to look for food, hydrate, and get a shower. The male cardinal perched on one Joe Pye after another - stronger stems, older plants - to enjoy his shower. He was completely under the undulating spray and loving it.

ELCA Pastoral Vacancies Reflect the Decline of Fuller Seminary, WELS, LCMS, ELS, CLC, Etc. Unfaith Does Not Lead to Faith in Jesus Christ.

 Mark Jeske, Thrivent, and a foundation dripping with money have gathered ELCA pastors together to teach LCMS and WELS clergy how to make their congregations grow or glow or be as cool as he is.

When I posted about ELCA having 600 pastoral vacancies, someone offered the fact of Fuller Seminary closing all their extension campuses. Local Fuller cells allowed pastors to study toward a coveted DMin (pronounced demon) from Fuller without leaving Dubuque, Des Moines, or Davenport.

Gimmick evangelism has been promoted a long time. The Methodists and copy-cats had Mother's Day, Father's Day, Veterans' Day, Lodge Day, Grandparents Day, and many other special Sundays to draw more people. They also had cell groups to model the same marketing fever. Those congregations are empty hulks now, known mostly for their bank accounts, Brobdingnagian female pastors, and empty parking lots.

Thrivent Insurance (and estate robbing Giving Counselors) used the palpable fears of WELS-LCMS-ELS-ELCA to gather the sects together. Thrivent answered their "felt needs" - as Paul Kelm would often say. What ever happened to him?

The afore-mentioned Lutheran sects were Calvinistic and suckers for rationalism, marketing, and instant solutions. After the 19th century was over, they became and remain totally hostile to Luther, the Reformation, and the Means of Grace.

Listen to their pitiful cries of despair now, their vanishing enthusiasm for a rosy future, and their dread of being labeled failures, apostates, abusers of men, women, and children.

The Lutheran sects are the bitcoins of Christian history, promoted heavily and declining faster than a runaway roller coaster. During my daily visit to the post office to return the latest camera, I realized that the "forever stamps" were a far better investment than bitcoins. The postal worker agreed, though wary of my thesis. 

"These forever stamps always gain in value?"

"Yes."

"The cost of postage has never declined. Instead, it rises steadily, year after year."

"That's true."

"So all the money spent on now-worthless bitcoins could have doubled?!"

"I am afraid so."

The Church Growth experts of the Lutheran sects have pursued the bitcoins of fake evangelism. The Michigan District of the LCMS has even labeled their Evangelism Committee - "Evangelism and Church Growth," as if one relied on the other.

Our little church - a spare room in a rented house - has members of all ages, from toddlers to great grandparents. One member attended and graduated with an M.Div. - and we did not have to name a seminary building after a known adulterer and home-wrecker.

So, whenever you hear of a marvelous cure for the melt-down of Lutheran sects, remember the glorified bitcoin and seek instead the treasures that do not rust and decay, that gift counselors break in and steal. 

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,  for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (KJV Matthew 6:20-21, edited).

Fun Sidelights at the Creation Garden

 Feeding birds has its limits.

Sassy insists on going outside, front-yard, where she sits down in the garden and guards against any threats.

Today I was sitting on the porch, looking over the Rose Garden, when a bird flew in and landed momentarily on my leg. I was startled and made a noise, so it took off. I was flattered. 

In the backyard I filled one kiddie pool with fresh water, a few inches, so birds could perch, bathe, and horse around. Starlings are the best at that. They rest on the flimsy plastic edge, dip their beaks for some water, then jump in to splash around. Bathing and preening are essential for bird flight, and starlings make a great game of it.

I flipped the other kiddie pool over to provide an above the ground feeding tray, large and clean.

These are not the blow-up kind, but the thin plastic ones that sell for a few dollars at the end of summer. That is also the best time to buy bird baths for almost nothing, especially the heavy concrete ones.

ELCA faces criticism for posting prayer to 'Mother God' on Facebook, Twitter 

This is normally called a thesis without a warrant - no reason given for the declaration.

Evangelical Lutheran Church short ‘at least 600’ pastors as many step away from ministry amid pandemic

Since their former Pastor Darren Paulson resigned last September as the COVID-19 pandemic raged into its second year, congregants of Atonement Lutheran Church in Billing Heights, Montana, have been waiting patiently for their local synod to replace him.

With a national shortage of “at least 600” pastors in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America under which the Atonement Lutheran Church operates, according to lay leader Kristin LaVe, it might be some time before their wait for a new pastor is over.

Laurie Jungling, the ELCA’s bishop for Montana who has filled in as a preacher at Atonement Lutheran Church, told The Wall Street Journal in February that the departure of pastors from their pulpits started accelerating in the summer of 2020.

“Pastors are tired,” she said. “They’re giving a lot of themselves to help folks deal with the trauma of the pandemic. They’ve had to face polarization in their own congregations, people’s anger and frustration about masks and vaccines, whether to have worship or not.”

 Anders danced at a chapel at Luther Seminary, the campus selling off land to stay solvent - like Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Seminary friends hooted and clapped during the performance, posted on Facebook.

Changes in the Gardens, Teaching Online Classes, and Video

Monday, we had a garden full of rose buds, now turning into hundreds of roses. The backyard gardens feature Joe Pye Weed and Hostas galore. The Hostas are in the shade of the green fence (bushes like Elderberry), along three border fences, a bit in the two gardens, and in the far backyard. Hostas multiply like rabbits in the right habitat.

My idea is to keep the backyard relatively trouble free while making the front yard a powerful attractant to butterflies, birds, Hummingbirds, and bees.

The Butterfly Garden - the sunniest area - is sporting Yarrow, Joe Pye, Bee Balm, and some other Butterfly plants.

Work Changes

I have dropped a series of online classes completely. Because the university overlaps classes, it is easy for them to bunch up two classes have three at a time.

I already feel the relief of that lower class load. 

I have 1.2 classes at GCU right now. 

Audio Video Changes

We have a good video streaming camera, and now we want to have better music coming through. I have some initial trials coming up, to see what changes, improves, or howls. Your expert advice is welcome. I can do more later in the month.

These changes will make it possible to lecture from the chapel, post them on Amazon.com or other platforms, and line them up for congregational use - plus others too.
