The Letters of John Hus (Jan Hus) by Herbert B. Workman & R. Martin Pope “The Letters of Hus have long been recognized by the best judges as one of the world’s spiritual treasures. The discovery of Hus, if we may so express it, forms more than once a landmark in the spiritual development of Luther. “‘When I was a tyro at Erfurt,’ we read, ‘I found in the library of the convent a volume of The Sermons of John Hus. When I read the title I had a great curiosity to know what doctrines that heresiarch had propagated, since a volume like this in a public library had been saved from the fire. On reading I was overwhelmed with astonishment. I could not understand for what cause they had burnt so great a man, who explained the Scriptures with so much gravity and skill. But as the very name of Hus was held in so great abomination that I imagined the sky would fall and the sun be darkened if I made honorable mention of him, I shut the book and went away with no little indignation. This, however, was my comfort, that perhaps Hus had written these things before he fell into heresy. For as yet I knew not what was done at the Council of Constance ' (Mon. Hus. vol. i. What Do Words Mean When They Are Empty

How many in this group oppose women's ordination? Answer - none.

Thriventians three - they have so much in common. 

Orthodox? - they do not agree with each other, but they share the same insurance loot and work hard at pulling grandma's estate into irrevocable trusts. But they are in fellowship with the Benjies, thanks to Mark Jeske (quasi-WELS, crypto-ELCA) sitting on the Thrivent board and organizing LCMS-ELCA-WELS events for and with women pastors from ELCA.

Evangelical? - That was Luther's label because they were the Gospel group courageously opposing the Church of Rome until the Pope excommunicated them. 

Pro-Life? - ELCA promotes abortion, and so does Thrivent, but that is an adiaphoron for WELS and LCMS.

Orthodox? - A better word would be ortho-apostate, because they agree 100% on Objective (Faithless) Justification.

Inerrant Bible? - Presiding Bishop Liz is opposed to inerrancy and welcomes every translation of the Bible except the King James Version. Mirthless Mark Schroeder and Matt the Fatt Harrison welcome all translations except the King James Version - and they hate Luther.

Confessional? - All three agree that they are confessional but the clear teaching of the Book of Concord opposes their pathetic, anti-Means of Grace clinging to Universalism. Everyone is forgiven and saved, even before birth, according to their experts.  They work together because they reject Justification by Faith together.

Mark Jeske's lopsided grin is...troubling.

Jumping on Thrivent grants like hobos on a hotdog? They agree on their lofty mission to make their world safe for that not-so-hot insurance company. Thrivent does not give to Lutherans alone, nor do they serve only Lutherans, but they enjoy having a captive audience (free trinkets) for their sales. Thrivent has more Lutheran names and addresses than the NSA.

Deluxe board meetings? When the leaders get together, it is always at expensive resorts, yet they do not name the location or Thrivent paying. Do all three meet jointly to listen to secular snake oil salesmen? They did at Snowbird and posed together for The Lutheran magazine. WELS took quick action and denied it, just as they did with Archbishop Weakland (Roman Catholic) at Wisconsin Lutheran College.

All three of them are dedicated disciples of Church Growth, whether from Fuller Seminary, from Trinity Divinity, or from chase-women-around-the-altar-Willow Creek Community Church.

ELS-WELS-LCMS Agree with ELCA

Pastor Jay Webber (ELS) and WELS District President Jon-Boy Buchholz appeared together at the Emmaus Conference to repeat their synods' Objective Justification nonsense.

ELS - We Believe, Teach and Confess

"By His perfect life and His innocent sufferings and death Jesus has redeemed the entire world. God thereby reconciled the world to Himself, and by the resurrection of His Son declared it to be righteous in Christ. This declaration of universal righteousness is often termed “objective justification.” One has this justification as a personal possession and is personally declared by God to be righteous in Christ when he or she is brought to faith in Him as Savior. This is often called “subjective justification”. If the objective fact of Christ’s atonement is not personally received by faith, then it has no saving benefit for the individual. We reject as unscriptural any teaching that people can be saved apart from faith in Jesus Christ. See 1 John 2:2, 2 Cor. 5:19, John 1:29, 2 Pet. 2:1, John 3:16-18, 2 Cor. 5:19, Rom. 4:25, 1:17 and 5:1-2."

Romans 

Romans 4:25 does not teach OJ, because the complete sentence teaches Justification by Faith - 

"KJV Romans 4:23-25 - 23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; 24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification."

Romans 1:17 emphasizes faith in Jesus Christ. That does not mean believing they are already forgiven and righteous.

KJV Romans 1:17 - "17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith."

KJV Romans 5:1-2 - "5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God."

2 Corinthians

2 Corinthians 5:19 - "19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Like many of their bogus proofs from CFW Walther - the thief, riot manager, and kidnapper - 1 Corinthians 5:19 does not equate the Atonement with Justification by Faith. 

Rambach, Webber, and 1 Timothy 3:16

Another one of the ELS favorite false proofs (from Jay Webber hisself) is KJV 1 Timothy 3:16, blatantly trying to equate the Atonement with Justification by Faith..

"16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."

Webber jumped into a discussion with his quote from the Pietist Rambach, where the following absurdity comes from - "the world was absolved of all sin the moment Jesus rose from the dead." Webber argued the Pietist notion against Martin Chemnitz, Luther's student and Book of Concord editor.

John 3:16-18

"KJV John 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

This destroys the ELS argument completely, because God loving the world is His nature, but those who do not believe are already condemned. Just as they confuse the Atonement with Justification, so these Pietists merge God's love with Universalism.

I remain baffled that the ELS leaders proclaim their errors on their website. Even stranger is the ELS, WELS, and LCMS rejoicing in their mutual false doctrine, with the same doctrinal discernment as the Universalist ELCA.

ELS, LCMS, and WELS formally agreed on Objective Justification. Here is some satire for the humorless OJists.
