“On Oct. 8-10 in Nashville, Tenn., Nobel Laureate Al Gore trainedThe Climate Project’s first-ever faith community members to add to its base of 2,500 global volunteers. He equipped volunteers to give slide-show presentations on global climate change, including its scientific, ethical, spiritual and public policy dimensions. The group included six ELCA members: Robyn Hartwig, a pastor from Portland, Ore.; David Brauer-Rieke, Oregon Synod bishop; Peter Bakken, Sun Prairie, Wis.; Sam Mozley, Raleigh, N.C.; Carol Baumgartner, a pastor from Racine, Wis.; and Barbara Rossing, professor at Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.”

When asked why this is so, they reply that the non-traditional services generally tend to be more informal, thus providing natural opportunity for visitors to feel more comfortable than is often the case in a formal, more liturgical service.
