Michelle Bachmann Is No Longer WELS

Greg,

You should know that Bachmann left her WELS congregation quite a while ago already – months, if not a year or more. Now belongs to some “community” or non-denom. congregation in the area. (Yeah, I know, like, what’s the difference anymore. True enough.)

And she said the reason she left WELS was because of their teaching on the Antichrist. At least she’s honest.

Referring to this Ichabod post kelmed from another source.

I wonder if Ms. Bachmann's decision to leave was personal, political, or both.

If she really hopes to be a national candidate that "Pope is the Anti-Christ", in whatever theological terms someone puts that in, would not fly with a national electorate that has an attention span of about 3 minutes.

Perhaps she never actually knew that is the technical position of the WELS and was surprised, after being confronted by such charges in interviews, to find out the official stand of the WELS.

Of course, then there is the issue of running for the highest office in the land while belonging to a church that would not even allow her to be elected to a church council.

Also, there is the issue of her married life. An interviewer might ask about the roles of her and her husband. The politically correct answer of "We are equal partners" would not correspond to the WELS/biblical stand that the man is the head of the household.

Is anyone surprised that she is NO LONGER WELS ?

I'd like to know who the Pastor was who was 'absolutely appalled that someone would put that out.' Really?

Grumpy I was looking up (W)ELS doctrinal statements on the role of women and ran across this on their Synod website which, lo and behold, declares Universal Justification and Salvation. (W)ELS laity need to get engaged before it's too late.

Why do most confessional Lutherans choose to limit leadership and authority roles in congregations to men?

We do believe and teach that men and women enjoy equal status and importance before God. Both men and women were created in the perfect holiness of the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Although that was lost in the fall into sin when as both men and women we became equally sinful before God (Romans 3:23), yet in Christ's life, death, and resurrection for us God has restored to us our position as his justified and holy children (Romans 3:24). As far as our status and importance before him as dearly loved children and heirs of heaven, whether we are female or male makes absolutely no difference (Galatians 3:26-29).

Now if she can just get past that little Christian doctrine that the unsaved go to Hell...now that she's left the Church of the Universal Objective Justification, she'll have to defend real Christian teaching on Heaven and Hell.

She will also have to explain to the Tea Party Movement (which she has hijacked for her own glory) why she went against our Constitutional principles and voted to extend The Patriot Act.

Ah, if only I could get back the money I have donated to WELS and the Bachmann campaign during my stupid years, I would be a wealthy man today.

I am a member of the WELS. This thread is a little old, but I need to respond to the statement that the WELS web site indicates we believe in "universal justification and salvation".

It seems pretty clear what you are here accusing the WELS of teaching is that all people will go to heaven no matter what they believe. That is, universalism.

The Scriptures do not teach universalism, actually, that is an understatement. It is clear enough in the Scriptures for young children to understand that the LORD, YHWH the Savior God, Jesus, the Savior God, in his word does not teach universalism.

The WELS does not teach universalism.

The Scriptures do teach that Jesus died for the sins of all people. Jesus, true God from eternity, without beginning and without end, and also now after his incarnation, true man, born of the Virgin Mary, lived the perfect life in our place, and died an innocent death, taking all people's sins upon himself, Isaiah 53, and giving as a free gift his perfection to all who believe in him as their Savior. God himself died for his creation, paying the full price that is demanded by him for sin.

While all sins of all time have been paid for in Christ's death, that does not mean that all people then will go to heaven. Faith in Christ as Savior is what saves.

This of course will lead to other questions, which are also answered by the one True God in his word.

Again, there is only one God,
God the Father,
God the Son,
God the Holy Spirit
not three God's, one God, who because of his great love for the crown of his creation, himself stepped into his creation, living the perfect life that he demanded, and willingly laid down his life, not having it taken from him, but laying it down himself, taking our sins upon himself, paying the full price for all people's sins, then after three days, as he had said he would, raised himself from the dead, conquering sin and death for us. Through faith in him we are saved.
