Will ELCA's Gay Marriages Drive WELS and Missouri from Their Embrace? No.
Exposing the ELCA - Exposed Blog

Exposing the ELCA - Exposed Blog:

"The state of Minnesota recently made same-sex marriage legal. In response to this, Minnesota ELCA bishop, The Rev. Peter Rogness of the Saint Paul Area Synod, has published a statement regarding the new law. (see here) In a nut shell, Bishop Rogness said that each ELCA church in Minnesota should decided for themselves if they will perform same-sex marriages. This statement by the bishop is confirmation that the ELCA officially allows gay marriage ceremonies to be preformed in any ELCA church that desires to hold them if it is legal in their state."

Standard LCMS/WELS replies for opposition to ecumenism:

1. "Thrivent (or LWR) is just cooperation in externals." [A classic]

2. "Do you boycott Ford and GM for supporting bad causes?" [My personal favorite, as if I should demand that the secular Ford or GM dealership place the Nicene, Apostles', and Athanasian Creeds on their marquis.]

3. "Those ELCA guys are rotten, and we are in neither altar nor pulpit fellowship with them." [While being in fellowship with other bodies in fellowship with ELCA. What about some Northern LCMS clergy who knowingly allow their parishioners who winter in the South to commune at ELCA altars? What about Benke communing at an ELCA altar?]

4. "You don't care about the poor, downtrodden, and starving."
