If I do not keep posting cat graphics, I hear from readers about it.

A lot of churches are hurting for money, and one way to save a lot of money is ditching the phone company for MagicJack Plus (released late 2011), and ditch the cable TV company and going with TiVo and recording channels off the air waves. To do that, one needs is a high speed internet connection (at least 6 megabytes per second) which costs $50 per month, unless you sign up for specials (e.g. $30 for first year). The TiVo DVR will set you back $99 and the monthly service is $15. MagicJack has a 30-free trial period offer that expires Thursday, 6 June (today). If you don't return the very small unit, on the 31st day they'll charge your credit card or debit card $59 ($50 for the unit plus $9 shipping):

Here is a video and an article on connecting the whole house
with MagicJack:

Comment on the above video and article. Since most people have had telephone via their cable company or via DSL like AT&T U-Verse, all their phone lines may be connected inside the house (like in the basement), not outside anymore. They'd be plugged in the back of the U-Verse unit or cable modem or some such. It is possible there are two boxes outside the house--one from the phone company and one from the cable company.

But customers didn't like leaving their computers on all the time (especially as the electricity to do so wiped out the savings from the cheaper phone service). So in late 2011 they came out with the Magic Jack Plus, which you plug directly into your wired Internet connection (i.e., your router).

MagicJack costs only $70 and includes a whole year worth of unlimited nationwide calling. Future years are $30. But if you want to transfer your existing phone number to Magic Jack, be prepared to pay $20 for the first year and $10 for future years.

MagicJack is the best solution for travel. Unlike Vonage and Ooma it works on WiFi (when plugged into your laptop), and unlike Skype you can plug it directly into wired Internet when it's available.

Michael BlueJay says the MagicJack Plus must be connected
directly into a router, but I believe it can be connected
via an ethernet cable of any length to the router. Perhaps
an ethernet coupler would be necessary, or an ethernet
splitter if one wants to run a PC and MagicJack off the
same ethernet cable:

Very Good when connected directly to a router.

Two notes on MagicJack. The total bill for the 30-day free trial on MagicJack ends up being $63.49 because since it is a phone service, they must pay regulatory fees of 7.8%. Also, the cost of the first year of service is included with the MagicJack. If one ports a number to the MagicJack, that's $10 extra per year.

Also, synod and district offices could save a lot of money using MagicJack free conferencing calls. For instance, Verizon's Audioconferencing Packaged Minutes cost for the cheapest package is below:

250 minutes- $30 a month
500 minutes- $50 a month
750 minutes- $70 a month
1,000 minutes- $85 a month
Overage fee- $0.13 per minute per participant
