What Are They Larning at Mary Lou College?
Not Much, As Evidenced by MLC Posts

Justin has left a new comment on your post "More Cluelessness and WELS Grammar:Girls Just Wann...":

Since it was meticulously copied from another video, GJ has the right to think "Party in the MLC" isn't original, humerous, or amusing.

The students' biggest mistake was to post the video to a forum in which it could be viewed by too many people who are able to take it as an accurate representation of MLC, the WELS, or anything else that it isn't.

Unlike GJ or most people who post to this blog, I was present when the students decided to film this video, and when they played it at homecoming, and when they posted it to youtube, and when they took it off youtube. Because I was there, I can say that none of them even knew that the people in the original video were homosexuals. Homosexual connotation was never thought of during the making of the video.

The students' didn't do their homework about the original video, and I will inform any reader that the homosexual nature of the video was inferred by people who wanted to find a problem with it. Quite frankly, GJ and those here who masquerade as concerned Christians troubled by the students' sins seem to be a bit too giddy over their newest opportunity to hatefully slander others on the internet.

I know every one of the members of the video well. Go ahead and call them naive or immature, but reserve the judgment of their character for those who have known them for longer than it took you to watch the video on youtube--even if you watched it several times.

***

GJ - Those cool, campy athletes at MLC are not very smart if they missed the implication of Fire Island Pines - Party in the FIP. They did not meticulously copy the original. They made it even worse.

I just had a phone call from someone who uses his real name. He was disgusted by the Party in the MLC video and glad they finally took it down. He said, "Where is the college president?"

Justin did not use his complete name. His friends better muzzle him before he posts even more sophomoric wisdom.

WELSians are so thin-skinned. They pretend to be perfect, which is their burden from Pietism, but if anything is pointed out that contradicts the pose, they get extremely nasty.

Oh please! How dense would you have to be not to get the gay overtones of BOTH of these videos. Are you seriously trying to tell us that a man, wearing a tight little shirt and short shorts waving a hose around has no gay connotations? Give me a break.

These kids made a big mistake. They paid for it. I'm hoping that they have repented and learned from it. If that is the case, I vote for leaving the issue where it stands. Let's drop the silly justifications, and lets also drop the sometimes hyperbolic attacks. I don't see any reasonable defense of this MLC video, and I also think it unreasonable to keep beating the drum on this issue (and this is not meant as a criticim of Dr. Jackson). There are bigger issues in WELS and Lutherdom in general. This video is but a symptom of larger problems in Lutherdom and American culture.

Justin, ignorance is no excuse, and truth does not slander make. Are all MLCers ignorant as kumquats?

Justin, exactly what does MLC do, say or produce that isn't an accurate representation of who they are and what they stand for? Consider Colossians 3:17, "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Also 1 Peter 4:11, "If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."

You compound the offense of previous defenses of this video when you state, "The students' biggest mistake was to post the video to a forum in which it could be viewed by too many people…" The core problem is that whether or not anyone ever saw the video - it shouldn't have been made. It is wrong for any homosexual or heterosexual person to imitate the homosexual lifestyle for entertainment. Dying in unrepentant sin results in eternal damnation. Not funny and not entertaining. Equally offensive and concerning is that it seems the vast majority of MLC students, parents and administration officials approved of this activity. This video relates to many other concerns with the doctrinal indifference, false doctrine and practice being tolerated in the WELS and specific offenses previously forthcoming from MLC. In my opinion it was this concern that most on this blog and others were discussing before the MLC students came to the homosexual video's defense, throwing pine pitch on the fire with their appalling statements, some of which you've happily repeated in your post.

Justin you state, "Unlike GJ or most people who post to this blog, I was present when the students decided to film this video, and when they played it at homecoming, and when they posted it to YouTube, and when they took it off YouTube. Because I was there, I can say that none of them even knew that the people in the original video were homosexuals. Homosexual connotation was never thought of during the making of the video."

This is inconsistent with statements made in earlier posts by MLC students and parents. Anonymous MLC student, "Like I said before, the video is a parody, like Saturday Night Live. Some of the actors on SNL will impersonate homosexuals by dressing a certain way or giving themselves a lisp. Do people question the sexual orientation of the comedians on that show or others like it? No. This is the same situation. They are a group of blatantly heterosexual men who acted out of character for the sake of humor." This is a clear statement that these children intended to act like flamboyant homosexuals in the Party In The MLC video.

Also, "Like I said before, Homosexuality is in no way condoned at MLC by students or faculty. But homosexuality is joked about because it is not even close to a possibility...we know as friends and brothers and sisters in Christ that if we are at MLC, homosexuality is most likely not a problem for us. MLC students think of someone calling them "gay" or a "fag" as something so impossible that it does not bother them....And we know that we are not giving offense to anyone because they are not homosexual." This is also a clear statement that course jesting is part of the MLC culture - note MLC culture statement below.

Valerie Grundmeier, "Hopefully they will post it on Facebook, because it is a funny video. But they need to restrict the audience to their friends, fellow students, and family. After all, that audience is the only one which understands these boys and their beliefs (including recognizing homosexuality as a sin)!" Valerie approves of the video and also acknowledges that the children are imitating homosexual antics.

MLC Student, "Listen people, I don't know what you're trying to prove, but you aren't changing the humor at MLC. I will still walk into my room, see my roommate changing, and say something to the effect of "hey, sexy" to which he will probably respond, "shut up, queer." ...I assure you that these guys are not gay, and that they did what they did purely for humor that was based on MLC's culture." There should be 1000's of people wondering if their donation to MLC is financing this person's tuition.

Justin states, "I will inform any reader that the homosexual nature of the video was inferred by people who wanted to find a problem with it." This is absurd as the statements and comments made on the homosexual websites (posted in the first comment here http://ichabodthegloryhasdeparted.blogspot.com/2009/10/ml.html) are in favor of the video as it promotes homosexual frolicking for entertainment.

Justin also states, "...but reserve the judgment of their character for those who have known them for longer…" What kind of a purified bubble are you and apparently the rest of MLC's student body living in? What a person does or doesn't do, what a person says or doesn't say is all a testament to who they are and what they stand for. The world is watching and listening. To think otherwise is self imposed ignorance and apathy. MLC students want everyone to halt all judgement on a person's public actions and statements until their intent and personal character can be determined. This is exactly the same problem encountered when the WELS' public false doctrine and practice are judged and contended against - WELS wants to say, "It can be understood correctly if…"

80,000+ people from around the world watched that video on YouTube and other websites linked to it. 80,000+ people were given the impression that the WELS confession concerning homosexuality is open and affirming. It's good that the video was removed. What will WELS and MLC do to correct the impression given to thousands around the world concerning their confession? Does the WELS or MLC care enough about those people to correct the offense, to publicly retract and clarify what they publicly promoted?

Matt 7:20, "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."

Is this real? I mean your blog. I just can't imagine someone who has enough time to hold down a career as a minister--and i would hope, at this age, a wife and family--to be able to spend this much time fuming about seven men in their early twenties wearing funny outfits. I would expect someone as a doctor of theology to produce fruits of faith besides petty besmirching of anybody who doesn't match his narrow-minded ideals.

I'm sure that when Christ taught about fruits of faith he was talking about the insightful, gospel-minded blogging that a faith such as Jackson's could produce. Above all, I hope that no unchurched people stumble onto this blog and assume (like Jackson did about the MLC video), that all Lutheranism is represented by the pathetic showing of faith that is demonstrated.

What I found most annoying about this little scandal was not that a bunch of twentysomething WELS Lutherans decided to do something foolish, but that dozens of their classmates and friends immeadiately leapt to their defense like a momma bear protecting its cubs. This is so typical of the clubby, old-boy network that one finds in the Missouri and Wisconsin Synods. Its not restricted to semi-mature undergrads either. I can't tell you how many times, as a layman, I have heard things like " Old such and such can't be a heretic because we were drinking buddies at 'insert name of seminary or teacher training college here'" If you go to the right seminary or have powerful friends you can set yourself up and the new Arius and anyone who says anything negative about you will be shouted down and villified.

Everything I've heard about the outrageous nature of this blog has proven true. I don't see why people waste their time day after day reading the opinions of people who liken the MLC students to Arians because they made a childish video.
