Great article! Evidence of what is Great about the WELS! This is evidence of why the Conservative Pastors in the WELS and the WELS synod leadership needs to gird their collective loins for battle. If the WELS wants to remain a conservative Lutheran Church it must end the synod-wide habit of covering up it's own inconsistencies and flaws; dealing with errorists as they arise in a manner befitting a Christian church--instead of continuing a long tradition of cover-ups. Despite the criticism I've dealt the WELS, despite the criticism many others on this blog have dealt the WELS, the majority of us want to see reform, and love the Wisconsin Synod enough to lambaste those who would try to destroy it. Read the article: Ask yourselves, if the error in doctrine and practice isn't stopped (and if church discipline doesn't begin soon) will the WELS be capable of a pro-life article like this one in twenty years? We need to exercise discernment in an overarching way, testing the Spirits for what they are now AND for what they will become. The rot takes time: The doctrinal error of Church Growth is not something that's just popped up. It's been festering a while. Confessional Lutherans are already behind in the fight. The breaking point is closer than you might think. I know some people who, not wanting to study and fight, say "Let God be God" and "no matter what we do God's will shall be done". God's will IS done by faithful Christians (laymen and clergy) holding up Scripture and faithful expositions of Scripture (BOC) saying "NO YOU WILL NOT PERVERT THE WORD OF GOD!" Let's pray for our pastors and elders with authority. Let's study Scriptures so that we are prepared to give a reason for the hope we have. I think we can wholeheartedly put these matters in God's hands without being passive!
This is history repeating itself. Faithful members of this blog struggle to do for WELS what Luther did for the Roman Catholic Church: get back to faithful confession of the Word. WELS is nearly as twisted today as the RCC was in Luther's day.

DK,
