Fount of Life
Be sure to watch the video of the minister dancing in his white Geneva gown, in church, for no apparent reason, to this music, as supplied by LutherRocks. The video embed says "sermon audio" and is on the front page, upper right hand corner. Exactly what does this proclaim to the world when people in the know realize what the music represents?
Many people were deeply offended when a Missouri congregation created a "funny" video at an altar, where people mocked the liturgy. This WELS fiasco is just another step lower than that one.The WELS minister is wildly dancing in front of the altar, wearing his white robe. The pulpit, altar, and two crosses are behind him. Perhaps the new head of American missions, Keith Free, could explain this new wrinkle on evangelism. Reaching out to Pentecostals?

That dancing PROVES it is not a WELS church...nice try, Dr. Jackson...
The white Geneva gown proves the pastor is WELS.
That used to be considered high church in WELS, to use a white Geneva gown. In the CLC (sic) it is reason enough for suspicion and careful watching - could be a crypto-papist.
Did someone say Crypto-papist?
Dr. Bernard Nathanson died on February 21 at the age of 84
Jewish by birth and an atheist by religion (or lack thereof), his relationship with an Opus Dei priest, Fr. C. John McCloskey, let to his conversion to Roman Catholicism in 1996. He was baptized, confirmed, and received his first Communion from Cardinal John O’Connor himself at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. His powerful behind-the-scenes stories of the movement to legalize abortion, its lies and deceptions, and the gruesome work that goes on in abortion clinics have proven invaluable for those who believe in the sanctity of life and the personhood of the unborn.
May he rest in peace.

Rest in Peace?!? If he wasn't a hypocrite in his Roman Catholic confession (putting the best construction on this) he is suffering for eternity in Hell right now.
Jeske is sympathetic to Catholicism and sees them as saved.
I don't know if I've ever seen a white Geneva gown on a pastor before (though it is what we wore for confirmation). Of course, black Geneva gowns run rampant though (including in my own congregation) - as do the innovative cassock-albs.
I would not consign all Catholics to perdition, but Opus Dei is probably the worst sub-sect in Romanism. Opus Dei teaches salvation through works, and that is their daily discipline, including self-flogging and wearing a thorny chain around the thigh.
Because the Church of Rome is a big tent operation, many believe in justification by faith alone and reject the toxic doctrines of the Medieval Church.
Mark and Avoid Jeske rejects the Christian faith, so his endorsements and blessings are a curse.
Brett Meyer's heaven is going to be even more lonely than WELS heaven.
No, Daniel. brett Meyer insists on justification by faith, apart from the works of the Law. That is the Gospel.
WELS heaven will be packed, shoulder to shoulder, but people will say, "What is that awful brimstone smell?"

I talked to a pastor recently out of the WELS seminary, and all he had was a white gown. The issue came up since he was preaching for Lent in a white gown. I wouldn't call it Geneva though, since it doesn't look like an academic gown at all. It looked just like the gown the liturgical dancer at Fount of Life was wearing.

Daniel, do you believe that if a member of the Roman Catholic Church fully confesses the official doctrines of that denomination they will go to heaven when they die?
I would not consign all Catholics to perdition
And I haven't. Those who are hypocrites within their denomination and confess Justification by Faith in Christ alone will be saved. I've consistently stated IF A PERSON CONFESSES THE OFFICIAL DOCTRINE OF THEIR DENOMINATION...
Many in the (W)ELS cast a question mark on God's judgement upon those who fully confess the official doctrines of denominations which reject the central doctrine of Christ's Word, Justification by Faith Alone, which displays a horrible lack of discernment and milktoast grasp of Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions.
bruce-church, the gown the seminarian was referring to was likely an alb, a proper liturgical vestment to be worn year-round at the Divine Service, even during Lent. That is being encouraged at the WELS seminary. The chasuble is also given the green light in the Christian Worship Manual, but that doesn't mean most WELS pastors wear them. There is such anti-Catholic DNA bred in the WELS that anyone pastor who wears liturgical vestments is looked on with suspicion. And if he were to wear a clerical collar, well, then he is mocked and marginalized (behind his back and to his face). The natural instinct of most WELS pastors is to eschew the liturgy and historic vestments. Especially when desperate to "grow the church" they will readily and happily ditch the gown and "vest" like a TV preacher. There will be little or no resistance from parishioners, circuit pastors, and district presidents.
That a WELS pastor wears a black gown "because it's Lent" shows how vapid he is when it comes to the purpose of vestments and liturgical worship. Because Lent is a penitential season the WELS pastor reasons that he should look dark and gloomy. Most people think he looks like a judge. "Here come da judge, here come da judge." (Don't remember that reference? Look it up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hIcKkKID8k) How appropriate for WELS though: Pastor as law-giver.
Indiana Catholic bishop is into Rick Warren:
"...he speaks admiringly of what Rick Warren, a Protestant megachurch pastor and best-selling author, has to say about making the church a people-magnet in order to reach them with the message of faith."
"As for Warren, Coyne likes what the purpose-driven pastor has to say about reaching those who have gotten away from church -- that activities at a church can give people an easy door to reconnect."
"'Once you get them in the door,' he says, 'you can evangelize.'"
"'We are a very complacent church,' Coyne says. 'We have believed that Catholics would be born and raised and would die Catholic and continue to come through the doors. And people don't anymore.'"

Sorry Grumpy, but Fount Of Life is a WELS church. On their website, click the "what is a Lutheran" choice, and it explains who the WELS church is. I guess most of us viewed the Pastor Mark Cares(famous WELS dude)video. While I admire Pastor Cares's work in the Truth In Love teachings, it is sad to see his name listed in the Church and Change Conferences.
Guru of worship enhancement? Excuse me, but WELS cannot continue down this pasth of reformed apostasy. The pastor dancing at the altar? Is this some sort of joke? Ski and Glende would shake their heads at the likes of dancing. The Church and Change, ruled by Mark Jeske, is behind all this evil that is creeping up in the WELS! Mark Jeske is a United States Government pawn. Preachers like Jeske are trying to get the masses to honor the King. No Jeske, it is obey God and honor the King! The Armed Forces Channel is showing Jeske to the troops overseas.(If I say any more about this business Pastor Jackson will not post it)
I guess I am ignorant about types of clergy gowns. All the WELS pastors around here wear those elegant long white gowns. Call me biased but we have some fine churches and pastors in my circuit(now, if I can only keep the WELS Women's Ministry from making inroads...) Yes Brett, I know one of the veteran pastors condoned Kokomo Justification in his conference paper. That same pastor is firmly AGAINST tacky church growth gimmicks. I know this because I attended a workshop at his church about six months ago. Kokomo teaching is blasphemous.
Joe Krohn has first-hand knowledge concerning these sort-of WELS churches and the phony leadership behind them. I will check with the other Intrepids concering any updates about Ski and Jeske.(We will see!)

HELLO? HELLO? Found of Life? CORE? et al., are you listening?:
"If we are interested in Christianity in any sort of serious way, it is not because it's easy or trendy or popular. It's because Jesus himself is appealing, and what he says rings true. It's because the world we inhabit is utterly phony, ephemeral, narcissistic, image-obsessed and sex-drenched—and we want an alternative. It's not because we want more of the same."

Adam Lambrect...guess who his wife is?
A certain Sarah (nee Kutz) who used to be the St. Marcus worship coordinator, and was also the head honcho for the WLC fundamentalist Christian singing group "Revelation". (www.revelationwlc.com)
I'm not publicizing this to gossip, but rather to point out one of many direct paths between Mark Jeske and WLC and other rotting WELS churches.
I used to live in Colorado Springs and had visited Font of Life, I can tell you that in a few short years they have really come out of the (Evangelical) closet. Back when I met Uhlhorn he was still pretending to be Lutheran. When I heard the Lambrects received a "call" to Font of Life I knew the church was going to try to become a megachurch.
Watch the other WELS church in Colorado Springs: Salem Lutheran. The Pastor is trying to do things right and the congregation has long been considered 'the dorky WELS church in town'. I imagine the folks at Salem are feeling a lot of pressure to conform to the "hipness" of the other WELS church. Keep them in your prayers.
If WELS pastors want to be true Evangelicals, and have street cred among Evangelicals, they need to have a big scandal, like these:

Brett Meyer,
I do not think it is appropriate to consign individuals to hell, regardless of denominational affiliation. Calling papist doctrine heretical is one thing, but stating that everyone who disagrees with your interpretation of the Scriptures is going to hell is an entirely different topic.
This is not to say that I think truth is subjective; to the contrary, I firmly believe that the truth of Scripture is plainly revealed, being properly presented in the book of Concord. But I would submit that the Book of Concord disagrees with your broad view of what makes or breaks the faith. I would argue that the Book of Concord suggests that properly distinguishing all the tenets of, for example, the Athanasian Creed are necessary for salvation. Not just a "proper view of justification."
Of course, it is a good thing that this justifying faith does not come based on our reasoning, ability to understand, or head knowledge, but rather comes by the work of the Holy Spirit.
So no Brett, I do not consign anyone to hell, papist or protestant, because that job is reserved for Christ. I can warn individuals that their current lifestyle or error leads to hell, but purporting to know where the deceased are eternally residing is too high a task for me. Rather, like Christ, I mourn for those who are in errant denominational sects (Matthew 23:37), and pray that God has mercy on their ignorance (Luke 23:34).
Perhaps I'm overstating the case because I find your mode of presentation on this blog to be in consistently poor taste. Do try to remember that the greatest gift of the spirit, and surest sign of faith, is love. Without it, you are nothing, and your fruit is rotten.
Brett and Daniel, I used the "consigned to Hell" language, but not as an accusation against anyone.
There are sincere believers outside the Lutheran Church, just as there are anti-Christians and false teachers within.
I think we should concentrate on those who publicly teach a union theology of Schullerism (which came from Asian religion via Peale's plagiarism) and business grow-tivational rhetoric.
As Lincoln said to his generals, "The enemy is over there."
but stating that everyone who disagrees with your interpretation of the Scriptures is going to hell is an entirely different topic.
Daniel, what I asked was, "do you believe that if a member of the Roman Catholic Church fully confesses the official doctrines of that denomination they will go to heaven when they die?"
Will they?
Brett,
I submit to you that it is impossible to fully confess the "official doctrines" of the Roman Catholic Church. Because many of the "official doctrines" are self-contradictory. Yes, I am avoiding your question, because it's loaded and I don't wish to answer.
At any rate, as Pastor Jackson indicated, let's focus our attention on the wolves in sheep's clothing that we know of, instead of speculating about hypothetical sheep.
Christ said:
Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Daniel, you teach a doctrine about God that is contrary to what He has revealed in Scripture. Your statement at 2:46pm shows this, "and pray that God has mercy on their ignorance (Luke 23:34)" As though regardless of what the individual confesses that rejects God's Gospel message of Christ, God may yet have mercy on them and take them to heaven although by their confession they have rejected Christ, the Holy Spirit and by that stand in condemnation of God the Father. I would present to you again Christ's declaration in Mark 16:16.
" Therefore, do not speak to me of love or friendship when anything is to be detracted from the Word or the faith; for we are told that not love but the Word brings eternal life, God's grace, and all heavenly treasures." 19 " In matters concerning faith we must be invincible, unbending, and very stubborn; indeed, if possible, harder than adamant. But in matters concerning love we should be softer and more pliant than any reed and leaf and should gladly accommodate ourselves to everything." 20 "Doctrine is our only light. It alone enlightens and directs us and shows us the way to heaven. If it is shaken in one quarter (in una parte), it will necessarily be shaken in its entirety (in totum). Where that happens, love cannot help us at all." 21 " But this tender mercy is to be exercised only toward Christians and among Christians, for toward those who reject and persecute the Gospel we must act differently; here I am not permitted to let my love be merciful so as to tolerate and endure false doctrine. When faith and doctrine are concerned and endangered, neither love nor patience are in order. Then it is my duty to contend in earnest and not to yield a hairbreadth." What Luther Says, II, 637f.
I reject the suggestion that we focus on "the enemy over there" when it comes to doctrinal confession and what is be taught by anyone. Even though I disagree with you I don't fault you for calling me out because it is every individuals responsibilty to do so. I could call you cold and unloving for doing it but I don't believe thats true. If you didn't care about me you would allow me to continue unabated in what you believe is a harmful confession on my part. Likewise, out of love, I call attention to false doctrine being taught in many ways including the subtle inferences such as praying that a devout and faithful Roman Catholic rest in peace when the official doctrine of the denomination is that of the Antichrist establishing works righteousness and thereby fully rejecting Christ, God the Father and the Holy Spirit.
Daniel, I would like to clarify that this is not a matter of judging a persons heart as that can only be done by God alone as Pastor Jackson aluded to when he said above, "There are sincere believers outside the Lutheran Church, just as there are anti-Christians and false teachers within."
This is a matter of judging the faithfulness of a doctrinal confession, and in my question doctrinal confession faithful to the official doctrines of the particular denomination, to Christ's Word. Isn't that what testing the spirits is all about? How can a person test the spirits if that person doesn't know right from wrong Scripturally?
