Koiné is excited to announce they will be playing Lifest Friday, July 12, 2013 at 05:00pm on the Cafe Stage, and we hope you will be there with us! But you're probably saying to yourself, I've seen Koiné before, they've come to my church or school and led worship or given a concert. So why should I come to see them at Lifest?
At Lifest, Koiné will be flexing their musical muscles, so to speak. We are working to put together a handful of extra musicians and vocalists to present some familiar songs (and maybe even some new ones) in a fashion we rarely get to. In the recording studio, we have the opportunity to bring in some of our musical friends, adding extra instruments like strings, or layers of vocal harmonies. While it's not feasable for us to travel like this all the time, there are a few rare cirumstances each year, where we are able to bring these friends along. This is one such opportunity, not to be missed!

History of Lifest

HISTORY

How did Lifest come about?

1990: Life Promotions started an event called Lifest, although it looked nothing like what it does today. It was a 5K run/walk held at Alicia Park in Appleton, Wisconsin to raise funds for Bob Lenz and Life Promotions to travel the nation speaking in schools, churches and at other events and festivals.  Lifest included walks/runs for youth as well as adults, and often had some kind of comedy show for the
participants’ enjoyment.  How could a simple run raise money?  After registering, each participant was given a pledge card.  The runner would then go out and collect pledges from people in their community, and bring any money raised to the event .  For each “milestone” amount of money raised, the participant would receive a special prize from Life Promotions.

1999: Lifest made some major changes.  In addition to the run/walk held at Alicia Park, a Christian music festival was added to the event itinerary.  Held at the Sunnyview Expo Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the new event structure provided participants with entertainment as over 60 acts performed over the course of 3 days, on 4 different stages, making Lifest Wisconsin’s largest Christian music festival!  Some of the bands included The Supertones, Third Day, dc Talk, Rebecca St. James, Michael W. Smith, Switchfoot and Superchic.  Other activities included camping, comedians and an area designated just for children.  Thus the Lifest that we know and love today was born!

2004: Lifest experienced its largest attendance with more than 17,000 people at the event!  By this time, Lifest had stopped holding the run/walk and had grown into a 4 day event, with over 150 acts on 7 different stages! Headliners on the Grandstand this year included Newsboys, Third Day, Audio Adrenaline and Jars of Clay.

2011: Lifest recorded its second largest attendance with over 16.500 people on the grounds!  This year, Lifest went “back to its roots” so to speak as it reincorporated a 5K run/walk into its already activity-packed schedule. Grandstand Headliners this year included Newsboys, MercyMe, TobyMac, Skillet and Lincoln Brewster.

Presented By: Life Promotions

Life Promotions is a non-profit organization reaching more than 400,000 youth each year. For the last 30 years, Bob Lenz, founder and president, has spoken to millions of hurting youth in all 50 states and around the globe, teaching a message of grace and love.

Various speaking topics are provided, including more than 50 public school programs each year that focus on intervention and making positive choices. Faith-based outreaches that teach on the love and grace of God are often provided within the community as well. In addition, Bob Lenz and other Life Promotions speakers who share similar values work with various churches and organizations to share their messages at conferences, churches, festivals, retreats and other events.

Life Promotions also feels it is important for youth to have a place where they can express and celebrate their faith in a positive and safe environment. Power of One, a one-day non-denominational evangelistic event held each fall, was founded in 1991 featuring nationally renowned Christian musicians and speakers. In 1999 a multi-day summer music festival, Lifest, was founded to allow the entire family to come together for worship, fellowship, teaching and more than 150 Christian artists and speakers. Lifest now sees up to 75,000 attendees over the course of the event.

Life Promotions continues to build relationships with individuals in schools, churches and organizations to partner together for the cause of reaching youth. We strive to convince youth there’s more to life.

GJ - Koine was a Jeske operation from the start. The Church and Changers love unionistic stuff, because they agree with the one and only dogma of mainline unionism - Universal Objective Justification. Everyone is forgiven and saved.

Koine is the abomination of desolation,
set up where it should not be -
at St. Peter in Freedom, in this case.

The problem isn't in the music (although most of it is crap) It's in the desire to be contemporary, to appeal to the current age with worship that apes the evangelicals and strives to "soften" church and lure in some suckers and church shoppers. We get all post modern, and inevitably the message will change, the law gospel balance gets lost and it turns into a gospel only and then a sanctification only service. it's about being cozy and friendly and having good coffee and any notion of church goes out the window. A social club is more like it...with coffee cake.

It is a slippery slope and the WELS will slide down it. I dare one contemporary WELS church defend that it has maintained better doctrine, theology, and stuck fervently to the Lutheran church, the confessions, and even the Bible. Turning the service into a seeker/outreach tool is wrong. It is pastors and people too lazy to relate the gospel in their vocations and an attitude of " lets just put on a good show and feel good about each other and more people will come and get a few good sound bites out of it." You could have a contemporary service play a contemporary version of " A Mighty Fortress" 4 times during a service but I can tell you that church is slip slip sliding away..
