I believe that Dr. Strickert has provided a helpful analysis of this matter, and I admire his concern to bring it out in the open. Obviously Gregory Jackson in his infantile blog (Ichcabod - sic!) had taken notice of it as his slander of WELS, ELS, and the LCMS continues to wallow away. |
Typical post on the Net. |
Boisclair is one of many incoherent UOJ advocates. I cannot translate what he is trying to say here. Missing word? Wrong word? Certainly he is confused about the facts. I have not speculated, just passed on the news reported in print and also sent around the LCMS.
SpenerQuest finally caught on and began their usual blab-fest.
I posted about the lawsuit by copying the scans from Christian News. SpenerQuest was silent for days.
Boisclair thinks that slander wallows. What is slander? - reporting news and providing the evidence?
Why the new spelling for Ichabod? The word means - The Glory Has Departed.
This graphic will help LCMS pastors with their spelling. Save it to your hard drive and share it with others. |
Joel Osteen makes WELS feel superior, but their own Osteen is Mark Jeske. |

On Ichabod, the Glory Has Departed (see Blogroll), Dr Gregory Jackson unpacks David Valleskey’s writings in ‘Vallesky and Commentary‘. (Dr Valleskey is a 1962 Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary graduate and one of its past presidents. He also attended Fuller Theological Seminary.)
In ‘Thank You: LCMS, WELS and Herman Otten’, Dr Jackson notes the proliferation of church growth at the expense of Lutheran doctrine. Somehow promoting church growth — or, as Dr Jackson calls it, ‘shrinkage’ (as this is what it seems to result in) — earns Lutheran pastors prominent positions:
When Curtis Peterson left the LCMS as a pastor and joined WELS, he told Herman Otten how much he appreciated Ralph Bohlmann promoting the Church Growth Movement in the Missouri Synod.
Peterson immediately had a large church and a position on the world mission board – with David Valleskey …
Otten still promotes the Church Growth Movement, selling Valleskey’s book on Shrinkage as a doctrinal book.
Dr Jackson writes that the class of 1970 had a lot of church growth supporters. So did the class of 1971. As did the class of 1978. Did they learn it from the class of 1962? You can find out more at his blog. In ‘Does the Fish First Rot from the Head?’ a reader notes:
A look at the WELS Statistical Report reveals that, while some of these Church Growth churches are “growing,” the total number of communicants in the conference has not increased.
… Church Growth mongers either reduce the membership of their own churches or that of their neighboring churches.
… Church Growth mongers either reduce the membership of their own churches or that of their neighboring churches.
It’s a shame to see a Synod go down the path of church growth. Lutheranism doesn’t need an man-centred, unbiblical programme from an Evangelical seminary wallowing in church growth and emergent church techniques.
What would Martin Luther say?
